Everyone’s faces froze at the sudden turn of events. Her body wobbled, and she collapsed to the floor. She felt pain in her throat, but Emilia couldn’t help but smile.
Was it a sense of freedom or liberation? Seeing the knight’s face, who hadn’t even flinched, contort in agony brought a sense of satisfaction.
If only that damned duke were here, it would have been even better. Emilia couldn’t help but feel regret. As her eyes slowly closed, she felt a rush of warm liquid pouring from her throat.
‘Oh, I should have cut deeper,’ she thought. It seemed like the blade hadn’t gone as deep as she had hoped. This might have been her last chance…
“Damn it! Get a doctor here immediately!” Byne yelled, opening the door and shouting at a maid in the corridor.
He quickly snatched the glass shard from Emilia’s hand and started applying pressure. Emilia felt her strength fading, but unfortunately, she wouldn’t die.

Upon hearing the news, Mikhail entered and saw Emilia lying on the bed. Her neck was wrapped in bandages, and there were several stained ones nearby.
“Duke, I’m sorry,” Byne said.
“You don’t need to say it,” Mikhail replied, inspecting her pale face. Her ashen complexion, combined with her red hair, made her look even paler.
“She looks like a dead person,” he remarked.
“The doctor said the wounds weren’t as deep as we thought, so that’s fortunate.”
Mikhail approached Emilia and began unwrapping the bandage from her neck.
“It seems the glass shard wasn’t as sharp as I thought,” he said, despite applying considerable force. “I guess she truly intended to die.”
He pressed his hand firmly against the wound. Byne cautioned, “Your Excellency, pressing like that will worsen the wound.”
“Even if it worsens, it probably won’t leave any visible marks. She might even appreciate it. Since she can’t die, she might want me to end her life,” he replied, applying more pressure to the wound.
Should he just cut her throat like this? Her delicate neck seemed like it could snap with a single gesture. He considered ending her life by strangulation, but then he thought, “No, there’s no need to grant her wishes.”
Suddenly, he felt a surge of anger. If she didn’t desire death, he might have ended her life impulsively. But of course, he didn’t want to leave her to die when she clearly chose to die. He wiped his fingers clean of the red bloodstains that were reminiscent of her red hair using a handkerchief.
Observing Mikhail’s actions, Byne said, “I won’t keep any dangerous objects in the room from now on. I had already taken precautions, but after today’s incident, I can’t guarantee that such a thing won’t happen again.”
Byne wouldn’t make such a statement lightly.
Mikhail glanced at the still-sleeping Emilia one more time and turned his attention away as if he had lost interest. Standing with his back to her, he addressed Byne.
“You probably realize that this was your last chance. Don’t react to anything she does. If she sees that nothing has changed, it will be even more hellish for her. And one more thing.”
“I’ll make sure it doesn’t reach His Majesty’s ears.”
The quick-witted Byne responded immediately. Mikhail nodded and exited the room.

She still felt pain in her throat. Emilia opened her heavy eyelids and stared at the ceiling.
‘Oh, I guess I’m not dead after all.’
She lay sprawled across the bed with her hands touching her neck. Looking at the bandages that were mostly free of bloodstains, it seemed like she had just received treatment. She wondered if he displayed the same bewildered expression as Byne did.
‘I wanted to see that arrogant gaze of his twisted in confusion.”
Unfortunately, she didn’t have the chance to witness such a reaction. In fact, she hadn’t expected him to come after hearing about her condition, but it didn’t matter much.
She gingerly sat up, feeling pain in her throat. A short groan escaped her lips.
“Ugh.”
As her voice sounded, her throat hurt even more. She released her hand from her neck and examined the room carefully.
Huh.
She marveled at the fact that there was practically nothing in the room. She had thought this would be her last chance, but she hadn’t known they would clear out everything so thoroughly.
In the spacious room, there was only a bed, and even the detestable lace curtains had completely disappeared. Dark green wallpaper adorned the walls, with patterns of blooming flowers climbing up here and there.
There wasn’t even a single water bottle on the table, let alone a pen to write with. It seemed like they had removed anything that could be used as a weapon.
“You’re quite thorough.”
Emilia was taken aback by her own low voice but was surprised to find it wasn’t unpleasant.
She reclined on the bed. What would be her way out of this place?
‘…The wedding ceremony.’
