‘If that’s the case, how is Johann satisfying his desires?’
As I began to be captivated by uncomfortable thoughts, the upstairs lady happened to envy me.
“I wish I could fall asleep with Rize’s husband in the same bed every day. Johann is so diligent that he must be diligent in bed too.”
At that moment, the landlady made a face as awkward as mine. I seemed to know why.
We live directly above the landlady’s bedroom. So, she probably never heard the sounds of our lovemaking at night.
Now that we were already caught, how about seeking help?
“That’s.”
Thinking quickly, I planned to consult with the landladies while Brigitta, on the other side of the fence, was busy yelling at the mother-in-law below the hill.
“How can I get Johann to see me…?”
But when I tried to say those words out loud, my voice seemed to vanish.
“Hmm?”
“Well, you know… How can I get Johann to see me not as a child but as a grown woman?”
“What are you talking about?”
As I spoke in a less embarrassing way, they couldn’t understand. Fearing that Brigitta might come over, I quickly confessed with a sense of desperation.
“We’ve never done it.”
“Does that mean you didn’t even consummate your wedding night?”
The upstairs lady asked with a sly expression. Realizing it was a comment that could be misunderstood, I quickly waved my hands.
“No, no, we did. I don’t remember, though. But since I woke up, we haven’t done it once.”
“Maybe he refrains because he’s worried about you?”
“I thought so too… “
I sighed deeply and made another embarrassing confession.
“He hasn’t even kissed me.”
“The answer is obvious, isn’t it?”
Brigitta, who had apparently overheard everything at some point, leaned over my shoulder, peeking at my face.
“He doesn’t want to kiss this face.”
“….”
“Brigitta, that’s nonsense. He would not be in a marriage with a woman he doesn’t want to kiss, right?”
As I struggled to find words in my embarrassment, the landlady gave Brigitta, who was making cheeky remarks, a stern look.
“There were men who changed their minds after getting married.”
Since it was a fact, the landlady couldn’t scold Brigitta for that remark.
“Johann might not see you as a woman anymore, Rize.”
“How would Brigitta know that?”
“Rize, just imagine.”
Brigitta whispered in my ear.
“Imagine Johann seeing you as a wife with broken limbs and torn flesh, covered in blood from bomb injuries. He might have thought you looked like a corpse.”
“….”
“Wouldn’t Johann still think of that corpse when he sees Rize. Even if it stood up, it would become weak and collapse like a withered cucumber after the frost?”
Brigitta’s gruesome words furrowed my brow, and I felt dizzy. I hadn’t even considered that possibility.
“Look at this. It’s just bones.”
Brigitta lifted my limp arm and shook it. Even when she rolled up the sleeves, they drooped down to my shoulders, revealing my thin arms.
“Pale and corpse-like. Where’s the man who wants a corpse?”
“Brigitta! Your words are too harsh.”
This time, since it wasn’t a whisper, the landlady heard it all and scolded Brigitta for teasing me.
“Rize, Brigitta is just teasing you. Don’t pay attention.”
However, the landlady’s comfort didn’t reach my ears. I was too focused on Brigitta holding my arm.
While Brigitta’s remark about me being thin and corpse-like was impolite, it wasn’t entirely untrue. On the other hand, Brigitta was a well-nourished beauty with a healthy complexion, like a ripe peach, and had a wild charm like a spirited mare.
Perhaps, before I experienced the bombing and wandered through the hospital, I was charming like Brigitta. Did I change, and did Johann change as a result?
“Rize, there wouldn’t be such a beautiful corpse anywhere else in the world.”
“Right. Rize is an exceptional beauty, and she’s petite, so what if she’s a bit thin?”
“Gasp…”
Suddenly, the lady from upstairs grabbed one side of my blouse and shook it, making me jump in my seat. Seeing me bounce while sitting, the landladies burst into laughter.
“If only you didn’t have a husband, how many guys would be regretting not trying to win you over?”
Even without that, there were guys chasing after me with strange looks, making Johann restrict me from going outside the farm alone. Does that mean I’m not lacking in charm?
“Then maybe the issue isn’t Rize but Johann?”
“What?”
“Does Johann have a low drive or something?”
“Come to think of it, I haven’t seen him making advances toward other women.”
“Really?”
“Well, Johann doesn’t give off the impression of being interested in women.”
“Like a dedicated teacher, huh?”
“Well, more like… hmm…”
After a brief pause, the landlady, who had been lost in thought, clapped her hands and exclaimed, “Priest!”
“Oh…”
“Someone with a celibate image like a priest, perhaps?”
Everyone, even I, had no choice but to nod in agreement.
“Rize…”
The landlady, who was staring at me, asked cautiously, “Does it stand?”
My face initially turned red at the explicit conversation, but it quickly cooled down.
“I, I don’t have memories of seeing that….”
“Oh my goodness, you’re not saying he can’t do it because he’s not standing there, are you?”
