I Transmigrated as my Bias's Messenger Bird - Chapter 14
“I’m so happy…”
Dinner, which Bart brought up to the room, was the best I’ve ever tasted. Onion soup with cheese, a perennial herb salad, and a roasted turkey with honey glaze.
After eating to my heart’s and gently patting my stomach, I glanced out the window to realize it had grown dark. Suddenly, Luke’s advice flashed in my mind.
‘I have to take a dip in the Well today. Was it on the 3rd floor?’
I changed into the beige dress Bart had laid out for me and headed out of the room. To reach the Well, I had been told to climb up the outer staircase located at the far right end.
Unlike the central staircase exclusively for the Tower Lord’s use, the outer one necessitated a longer route around the Magic Tower. However, it had the advantage of providing a view outside through the windows punctuated along its length.
After climbing a few flights of stairs, I could see the night view of the Alucina Empire in the distance – the brightest of the Imperial walls and the softly lit commercial districts. It felt unreal to be in this other world.
‘Could this be just a really long dream?’
It was then that the night sky, softly illuminated by nighttime lights and stars, suddenly flashed. It was as if lightning had just struck.
The only difference was that after the flash, a thin veil of light covered the entire area.
“Oh…What’s this?”
I took a step closer to the window, stunned by the sight. The huge curtain of light quickly converged into a single point, and a moment later, a beam of light shone down on my face like a spotlight.
…Huh?
I had seen a light like this before. I remember it was probably a Batman movie.
When a beam of light with the Batman logo on it shoots up into the night sky, everyone in Gotham City sees it whether they want to or not.
The beam of light in my face was like that. Except now it was in the opposite direction. The new sigil shone brightly in the night sky, and the light was shining right at me.
“What the…” I asked, stunned by the blinding intensity of the light.
“Over here!” A shout came from downstairs. Instinctively, I knew something was wrong, but I tried to casually turn around.
“…Hello?”
“Where is…?”
Breathless, a sorcerer, whose name I didn’t know, hurriedly spoke, followed by Reina ascending shortly after.
Feeling a strong urge not to get involved in whatever was happening, I subtly turned around to continue going up the stairs.
“Wait.”
“Yes?”
I turned around immediately. Raina said, her eyes scanning my surroundings suspiciously.
“Have you… perhaps seen something around here?”
I gulped. Seen something?
“…Nearby, have you noticed anything?”
Have I noticed anything? What could it be? It seemed like they were searching for something crucial, but what could it be? At that moment, the young sorcerer who had run up with Reina exclaimed.
“Something’s wrong, Lady Reina. The magic indicated this place for sure. Coo should definitely be here, but…”
Coo…? Coo?
‘They used that flashy spell just to find Coo…?’
But it was odd. If that spell was truly effective, shouldn’t they be searching for the real Coo in Regia? Why was the magic pointing at me?
“Did you properly secure the feather?”
“Yes! I retrieved the feather that was dropped in the Tower Lord’s room today. He handed over the feather himself.”
“I see… But why can’t we see anything?”
I felt goosebumps all over my body. The magic wasn’t wrong. It was just that the feather they had was actually mine.
“Keisha, are you absolutely certain you haven’t seen anything here?”
Reina turned back to me with a suspicious glance. What should I say? There’s too many magical beams of light shining in here to say I didn’t see it…Well, I guess I have no choice. Bold-faced lie it is, then.
“Um… a bird, perhaps…? Is that what you’re referring to?”
“Yes! That’s right. Where did you see it?”
Thank goodness. Fortunately, she didn’t specify the bird they were looking for, so when I mentioned a bird, she immediately believed me.
“That…with white feathers and a single blue feather on its head…”
“Yeah, that’s the one!”
Reina exclaims with conviction as I add more clues. I’m sorry, Professor.
“That bird… It was just here by the window a moment ago. Did it fly down maybe…?”
“Really? Melli, Per. Scatter around the first floor.”
“Yes!”
“Thank you, Keisha.”
I felt really bad about lying, but I smiled awkwardly and Reina and the two mages quickly rushed down to the first floor. However, I did wonder…
‘…Are they using a search spell in the evening to find the carrier pigeon that flew away in the morning?’
It’s understandable if it’s a dog that stays with you all the time, but isn’t a messenger bird supposed to fly all over the place? Ugh, it’s really baffling.
Silently cursing Rai’s eccentricities in my mind, I decided to head back upstairs.
