I Transmigrated as my Bias's Messenger Bird - Chapter 18
After that eventful night, my week at the Magic Tower turned out to be surprisingly peaceful. That’s just me, of course. The Tower had been turned upside down by another incident: the disappearance of Coo.
Every night, without fail, I broke into a cold sweat hiding myself amidst the tumultuous, dazzling search magic. Each time, the wizards would come within a few feet of me and then turn away without finding Coo.
There were even rumors that Coo had fallen through a space-time rift around the Tower. It was a myth because if you cast a search spell, light would surely pour into the tower, but you would never find her.
As the rumors grew, I attempted transformation at every chance, but I failed repeatedly.
I wasn’t worried, though, because I could still easily keep track of Rai’s movements in my humanoid form, and I had no problem reporting it. The actual problem lay elsewhere.
“By today…”
According to Reina, today was the last day one could apply for admission to the Imperial Academy, a week before the start of classes. She said that a guardian was absolutely necessary.
Truthfully, as an ill-prepared foreign student and having already been caught lying to Rai, I had planned to leave the Tower and find some inn to transform into Coo. Unexpectedly, Reina was too proactive, leaving me no chance to escape. So, I had no choice but to contact that bastard bird.
[Tutu: Do you want to die? Why would I bother with that?]
Even the nickname ‘Tutu’ sucked, and his response was even worse.
[Tutu: Why did you put yourself in that situation in the first place, you idiot?]
Watching those unfortunate characters floating in the air with an unnecessary beauty, it only fueled my irritation.
[Tutu: And are you out of your mind?]
[Tutu: An elf entering a lowly human educational institution?]
[Tutu: Just as expected from such a lowly being, even your thoughts are inferior.]
Is there no way to block messages from elves on this system?
While I was distracted by the constant barrage of bad messages, it suddenly dawned on me.
If they were such a great race, why did they initially try to keep track of Rai’s movements by disguising themselves as his pigeon…? Couldn’t they overtly investigate or have Ventus, who is an eagle, fly around the area if necessary?
It’s obvious. We can only assume that there’s a reason why they can’t just be out in the open in their true form. There must be a reason to conduct a close investigation, even to the extent of becoming someone Rai trusts and keeps by his side.
Having reached this conclusion, I ignored Ventus’s words and blurted out.
[Do you mind if I let them know that Coo had been kidnapped?]
It seemed to have an effect as the messages stopped for a moment. Then, five seconds later, a string of sentences that I had no idea what to make of.
[Tutu: Worse than a kobold on a dragon’s back.]
[Tutu: You will be swallowed by a Leviathan in one bite.]
I understood the gist of his insults. But it did zero damage. Without hesitation, I sent another message.
[You have three seconds. 3.]
[Tutu: What?]
Following the habit I learned from the owner of this Magic Tower, I sent the next response.
[2.]
[Tutu: ㅇ[1]]
The effect is straightforward, but even the resigned response seemed unlucky, indicating a strong unwillingness.
[Okay then, please come here today! ^^]
After about an hour, there was a knock on the door.
“Yes, come in.”
After a few moments of silence, the door cautiously opened. It was Bart. After a polite bow, Bart looked up and said, “Miss Keisha, you have a visitor.”
***
“This way.”
I followed Bart’s lead into the parlor, and for a moment I doubted my eyes. Earrings with rhombic red crystals. A white blouse with ruffles on the sleeves and collar, and above it, a dazzling golden tailcoat, and a haggard figure sitting arrogantly, arms crossed.
“I was told he was looking for Miss Keisha, so I brought you here.”
“Ah…yes…”
“Is this the right guest?” Bart asked as if to confirm my nervous reaction. Honestly, I thought about just pretending I didn’t know and going back, but…
“Um… yes.”
Our eyes met inadvertently, making it hard for me to leave. I clearly saw a momentary flicker of annoyance in Ventus’s eyes upon noticing me, but he quickly changed his expression to a pleasant one, standing up courteously and smiling warmly.
“My dear Keisha, you must be a little nervous to see your brother after all these years.”
I stared, wondering what the hell this was all about. Ventus, still smiling, said, “I was worried because you didn’t come down. Did you doll up like this for me?”
He was a total jerk, from his tone to his expression, but he seemed to have a story, so I decided to play along.
“Oh no, I didn’t doll up… But thank you for the compliment.”
“Haha. Okay, then… So, where should I go now?”
What an impatient person. I just tolerated him once, and already it seemed like he had run out of patience. Clearly, he was eager to find his destination and leave this place as quickly as possible.
“Oh, my benefactor asked you to come this way once my guardian arrived. Let’s go, big brother.”
“Yeah, yeah. Let’s get this over with.”
That was an oddly threatening tone. I can’t believe he’s already given up on acting. He’s such a hard-headed vulture.
