I Transmigrated as my Bias's Messenger Bird - Chapter 19
I made a polite bow to Bart, who was still staring at me and Ventus, and tugged on Ventus’s arm. We walked out a few steps and entered a deserted hallway.
As we stepped into the corridor, Ventus swiftly freed his arm from my grip as if he had been waiting and spoke.
“How dare you threaten me?”
“Things had already gotten to that point, so I had no choice.”
“…You’re going to be the death of me.”
“What’s with that outfit anyway? Are you going to a ball or…”
“What?”
Ventus, upon hearing my words, stopped walking and slowly turned around. The look on his face showed he was really in shock, making me feel flustered too. Why, though?
“…Ball? Did you just look at my outfit and say that?”
“Oh… I thought it was because you were too colorful… or something.”
“I came to you dressed in the finest robes that are only worn on special occasions for your sake, and you call it a ball? A ball?!”
“Oh… you did? I’m sorry, I didn’t realize.”
I really didn’t. And I didn’t expect him to show up an hour later dressed in his finest formal wear.
My apology didn’t seem to calm him down, though.
“The finest silk tailcoat, woven with gold threads of sunlight, with gemstone earrings of dragon’s breath. This is the first time I’ve worn it since my coronation. And I’m not wearing it because of you! I’m wearing it because I’m representing the Faerie Folk visiting this human stronghold, but a ball?! The nerve.”
“Oh, okay. I’m sorry.” I patted Ventus on the back, feeling a little bewildered by his rant. “You’re gorgeous. You’re dazzling. You’re the best.”
“Forget it, I don’t need your compliments.”
I was getting tired. We made our way to the office Reina had mentioned, and he was still whining. I closed my eyes and tried a more soothing approach.
“Oh, why does my big brother look so stylish?”
I patted him on the shoulder and gave him a thumbs up, hanging slightly onto his right arm.
Click.
A door a few steps away opened and I locked eyes with a man walking out from inside. It was Rai.
Rai’s gaze lingered on Ventus for a moment before turning toward me. I stood there dazed for a moment, then quickly composed myself.
“Greetings, Tower Lord,” I said hastily.
Rai gave me a small nod in response, then turned his attention to the mage who followed alongside him.
“Tower Lord…?” Ventus said, his voice a little shaky for some reason. Rai’s eyes narrowed strangely. I was uneasy. Regardless of my unease, Ventus walked over to Rai curiously.
‘…Something’s not right. Eagle… Stop…’
“How do you do? I’m Ventus of the Elves,” Ventus introduced himself.
“I didn’t ask.”
“Oh.”
Ventus seemed a bit deflated. Yes, this was the Rai Sherfied I used to know.
I understand that it’s impossible to continue a conversation with Rai in that state. However, the eagle didn’t stop.
“I’m here on behalf of the elves, as guardian of Keisha, who is here because she’s been making a big deal about getting into the Royal Academy of Alucina.”
“…And?”
Despite facing someone who seemed utterly disinterested, Ventus persisted.
“We entrust Keisha to you. Please take care of her.”
“There’s not much the Tower can do for an exchange student at the Academy.”
“…You speak with such indifference. While others might not mind, coming from the Tower Lord, it feels harsh.”
“Harsh?” Rai sneered.
What on earth is this eagle doing? I felt a chill running down my spine just by watching.
“Alright, then. I’ll be sure to treat her well.” Rai’s gaze turned to me as he answered. He said it with a hint of sarcasm still on his face, which made me even more terrified.
Rai quickly averted his gaze and walked past me, accompanied by the mage standing beside him. I even felt a chill in the air as they passed.
Only after Rai had disappeared around the end of the hallway did I exhale with relief and slap Ventus on the back.
“Why would you do that? He’s scarier than he looks.”
I shuddered as I remembered Rai’s murderous eyes. Ventus, however, looked a little sullen for some reason and sighed softly.
“I know,” he said, “but that’s not his true nature…”
True nature?
“…No, never mind. It’s a useless story.”
Wow… Mr. Eagle indeed seemed to see him that way, but he’s not a bad person, more like an elf. If he’s going to cut it off, you should’ve stopped from the beginning, seriously.
“What is it? Tell me.”
“No.”
“Come on, you were about to say it.”
“It was a mistake. Anyway, I won’t.”
“Geez, serious d*ck move.”
“D*ck move…? What’s that supposed to mean?”
Oh, I guess my cursing has no effect on eagles. Ugh. In that case…
“You’re worse than a kobold on a dragon’s back.”
“…What, do you want to die?”
Wow, that was apparently a severe insult. And he said that to me. I was just following what I’ve learned, but watching Ventus seething in anger, I bit my tongue.
