I Transmigrated as my Bias's Messenger Bird - Chapter 30
Honestly, I had a hunch. They’ve come for me.
However, I decided to play it cool. I widened my eyes innocently and casually replied, “Yes? Yes… that’s me. What can I help you with?”
“I’ll need you to come with me for a moment. Is that alright?”
“Uh, yes. Um… if it’s just for a moment.”
Stay calm. If I flee from here, things will only get worse. I walked alongside the knight with the most confident of strides. That is, until we were led to a room not far away and I saw Leon, seated in a proper posture at a desk, flipping through documents.
“Commander, I’ve brought Miss Keisha.”
“Alright. You can leave. And please, take a seat.”
However, the moment our eyes met, I sensed that something was off.
‘You…?’
Even though I had concealed my identity, the atmosphere didn’t feel like our first meeting.
‘Where did that retriever-like Leon go…?’
Struggling to calm my trembling, I slowly took a seat in front. Leon put the document down, his face expressionless.
“Are you going to confess?”
What felt like mere seconds stretched into what felt like hours. I tried to hide my trembling breath and simply stared at Leon.
‘Did I get caught? How did they find out? There was no one here yesterday. What will happen if they catch me here? What happens when you steal the Emperor’s treasure? Is this a quest or something different?’
A million thoughts flashed through his mind in an instant.
Leon, still looking like a stone, said, “If you’re thinking of lying, it’s no use. The evidence is too obvious.”
“Evidence… you say?”
As I attempted to appear composed, Leon, somewhat irritably, sighed and continued, “A dying guard drew this symbol on the floor before he passed away.”
“Wait…! A dead guard?”
Hold on, what is going on? Who died? And why would they think I had anything to do with it?
Leon held out a picture of the sigil. It was a symbol that looked like a tree inside a circle. What is this? Where have I seen this before? It looks familiar.
“I hope you’re not going to turn your back on this.”
“What is this?”
“It’s the emblem of the Fae.”
“What?!”
“And currently, there has been only one reported sighting of elves in this vicinity. Who do you think that might be?”
Oh my god, that symbol… It seemed like something I saw in a corner in one of Ventus’s messages.
“Don’t wear yourself out with denials,” Leon said calmly while organizing documents. “You’re going to end this with a confession. After stealing the fishing rod, you killed the royal guard who found out about it.”
It was then that I snapped back to reality and desperately slammed the desk.
“Hey! No, that’s not true!”
The sound made Leon raise an eyebrow.
“…What?”
“Well… I mean, I didn’t kill the guard!”
“…Then why did the guard draw an elven glyph right before dying, even as they struggled for breath?”
“I… I don’t know! But I really didn’t do it!”
Despite my outcry, Leon spoke impassively. “Where were you yesterday, between an hour and two hours after sunset?”
“That’s…”
“Why hesitate? Seems like there’s something you can’t talk about.”
“No, that’s not it! I mean…”
Gosh, this is so frustrating. Yes, I took the fishing rod and went to Dito, but that has nothing to do with the guard’s death. Why did a theft suddenly become a murder, and what’s with the elven glyph?
Despite my frustration, Leon’s gaze remained steadfast, completely convinced of my guilt. “Is there any way to prove that you’re not the culprit?”
“That’s…!”
There isn’t any. There isn’t… I didn’t really kill the guard. Hmm, then maybe showing evidence that I was outside during that time could help? Dito…? No, bringing Dito in here would breach our agreement. It wouldn’t be good to involve a black-market merchant… Okay, maybe…
“…What about a person who could provide a witness testimony?”
“…A person?” asked Leon with a tone that almost sounded as if he was daring me to say it.
I stared into Leon’s eyes and replied, “Yes. The Tower Lord.”
