‘The murderer was in the tower…?’

That was scary enough, but the fact that the tower itself had been struck by lightning was even more shocking.

‘I just did what the High Priest told me to do… and now I’m a suspect in an attack on the tower…’

A bit of help, he said… Theo, I knew I shouldn’t have trusted him in the first place.

Stunned, I put on my best poker face as I walked back from behind the warehouse. The guards near the warehouse entrance, after pointing towards the sky above the tower, were rushing off somewhere.

That’s when I started walking calmly in the opposite direction.

Splash.

As I took a step on the grass, there was a sound of water. Strangely, a shiver ran down my spine, and when I looked down, black water was rising up to my ankles.

‘This is…’

My gut told me I was in a horrible situation. The black water had turned into a sticky swamp, and from the swamp, a black curtain slowly rose, engulfing my surroundings entirely in darkness.

Light vanished, leaving an utterly pitch-black space. In this unknown and suffocating environment, a metallic voice echoed when I found myself trapped. I couldn’t see anyone there.

— …How could the likes of you… pass judgment on me…?

The voice sounded close to my ear, then drifted away. I could hear groans in between—and not the perverted, pleasurable kind.

“…Are you the one who murdered the guards? Why did you try to frame me?”

Instead of answering my question, the mysterious voice chuckled menacingly. Great, this thing was rude on top of everything.

“I don’t know why you have a grudge against elves, but back off.”

— Grudge…? Don’t belittle my achievements with such vulgar words!!

Black tendrils shot up and clawed at my body. The agony was so intense that I almost blacked out from the pain. Desperate, I attempted to use teleportation magic.

[Skill use failed due to opponent’s power.]

‘…Damn it. If I knew this was coming, I should have at least learned some offensive magic.’

— It’s useless. Your trick won’t work here, so you might as well give up.

Wiping away the warm substance that ran down my cheek with the back of my hand, I glanced at the source of the sound when the voice spoke again.

— This time, a script like this would be more effective… An elf who returns to the crime scene and commits suicide out of guilt. What do you think?

At that moment, the black tendrils that had assaulted me began to bind my body tightly. This was bad. My consciousness was fading away.

Kaaang—

There was a powerful explosion, and the black space surrounding me began to shatter into pieces. Strong arms enveloped me from behind, and in that instant, a familiar voice reached my ears.

“Keisha.”

A calm voice. With that single word, all the tension in my body melted away. At the same time, the tendrils wrapped around my body dissipated like a mist.

The shattered black pieces, like a broken glass, scattered into the night sky. Under that sky, I met the cyan eyes silently observing me.

“Tower Lord…?”

Rai’s gaze lingered on my head, face, and body for a moment, then he blinked. In that instant, I noticed a slight crease forming on his forehead. Although it was a brief moment, it felt like the scene was playing out in slow motion.

– Sherfied!!

The mysterious man screamed. As Rai looked up, the black tendrils reaching towards us recoiled in an instant. Bright spears formed in thin air and surged towards the man, piercing him.

“Aaargh!!!”

The unidentified man screamed. Now that he was revealed, he had green hair down to his waist, rough-grown beard, and an overall gaunt appearance.

Red blood trickled down his pale skin, as if he hadn’t seen the sun in a long time, and electricity coursed through his body. The way he groaned and laughed maniacally with each spark was unnerving.

Watching the scene in a daze, I tried to lower myself when my legs gave way. Rai’s arm firmly tightened around me once again to support me. I felt a chill breeze blew in through the torn hem of my dress.

I couldn’t imagine the mess I must look like at this moment. I stared up at Rai who had been keeping his eye on the man. Finally, we locked eyes. Something… I felt like I should say something, but what should I say?

Well, let’s start with anything.

“…How did you get here?”

Rai, who had been listening to me with a serious face, suddenly let out a smirk.

“…After all that, that’s what’s on your mind?”

“Thank you for saving me.”

With a softer expression, Rai said, “You’re well enough to talk at least. Get yourself some medical attention.”

As Rai finished speaking, Reina and Luke suddenly teleported in and rushed towards me. Rai handed me over to Luke and said, “Get her treated as soon as possible.”

“Understood. Don’t worry, Tower Lord. The transport carriage will arrive shortly.”

Observing their conversation, Reina said, “Tower Lord, the intruder…”

Reina looked at the groaning man impaled with glowing spears. Only then did Rai look back, his eyes turning cold.

“…I’ll take care of it.”
