I Transmigrated as my Bias's Messenger Bird - Chapter 61
Several days passed without me seeing Rai after that day. I stayed in the Tower for another day or so to recover before finally being able to return to my dormitory.
When I returned to the dorm, Alfie came to visit me every day and brought me fresh fruit because he was worried about me after not seeing me for a few days.
After a period of recovery, I was finally able to attend the third class I had signed up for—Practical Execution of Tasks.
‘Rai said this was for aspiring knights.’
A little nervous, I walked to the practice area and saw a dozen students lined up. A moment later, a knight appeared at the front. He was presumably the professor of the class.
The knight walked with a stoic demeanor and locked eyes with me.
‘Why? I haven’t done anything.’
I swallowed hard. In an emotionless voice, the knight called out.
“Attention, the assigned professor for this class has changed.”
There were murmurs all around. There were exclamations of excitement and nervousness, and then the man who had slowly walked forward and turned to me.
“A pleasure to meet you. I’m Leon of the Imperial Knights.”
It was strange. Surely Rai had told me that the practice of commissioning had nothing to do with the Knight Commander.
‘But suddenly Leon is the new professor?’
I stood there in a cold sweat, trying to look as nonchalant as possible, trying to think of a way out of this crisis.
“Most of the commissions the Imperial Knights receive are to resolve embarrassing incidents that have occurred to the…Imperial Family or nobles close to them, and we have never had a failed mission.”
Leon explained calmly, shifting from foot to foot. It felt like he was coming closer to me. Oh… It wasn’t just a feeling—he was definitely approaching me.
Once he was in front of me, Leon looked me in the eye and said, “Including the less than stellar successes.”
I awkwardly managed a smile. Then, a student at the front raised their hand and said, “I have a question.”
Leon looked back at the student, nodded, and the student continued.
“I heard there was a recent theft in the royal warehouse. I’m curious if that incident has been resolved.”
Leon replied briefly, “It has been resolved.”
…Huh? Something was off. Did the Knights already find out everything about Hicks? Even if they did, the theft incident was about the fishing rod, right?
‘The fishing rod hasn’t returned yet, so why is he saying it’s resolved?’
Moreover, after Leon uttered those words, he stared at me once again, seeming quite dissatisfied. What’s going on?
Since I truly didn’t understand, I just tilted my head.
Leon, with a slightly twisted brow, turned away and said, “Everything was resolved in an instant.”
Leon’s eyes scrutinized me precisely.
‘…Clearly, those eyes are telling me that he’s not happy with me….’
The other students didn’t seem to notice, but I certainly did. Leon must be very unhappy, and he probably volunteered to be a professor to take it out on me. If that’s the case, he’ll likely be hard on me throughout the class… I feel pretty screwed here.
“But resolution is only superficial, especially if the causality surrounding it isn’t clear.”
“I’m curious how you handle such cases!”
Another enthusiastic student asked, and Leon suddenly smiled, the corners of his mouth twitching upward.
“We need to uncover the truth. Until the end… without giving up.”
His eyes sparkled, and the subtle smile felt like it could even be madness.
‘My sword… is for you.’
Goodbye, game Leon, who offered a sword with an innocent face. Now, all that remains before me is the slightly obsessed stalker investigator.
‘Or should I say a slightly obsessed stalker professor now? Sigh…’
I forced myself to look away. I pretended to doodle on my notebook while Leon continued outlining his future plans in a loud voice.
“Moving forward, the class format is simple. We’ll analyze missions that the actual knights have undertaken and discuss better solutions. By the end of the semester, we’ll go out to resolve a real mission.”
‘This sounds like a lot of work…’
While still leisurely sketching the innocent face of the Leon I remembered in my notes, he continued.
“Which means you won’t have any time for doodling next period.”
Huh…?
Feeling a chilling atmosphere, I looked up, and Leon, who was gently smiling, had somehow come close and was now standing beside me.
“Uh… Commander… No, Professor. I, um…”
I hastily covered the scribble with my hand, even though he wouldn’t recognize it anyway.
“It’s alright just this once.”
‘But any more wouldn’t be, right…?’
Leon merely kept gently smiling, stepping forward again as he said, “That concludes our lesson for today. I’ll see you next time.”
I watched Leon’s back as he walked away, and briefly but seriously considered if I should drop the class.
