I Transmigrated as my Bias's Messenger Bird - Chapter 8
“I don’t like this.”
Ventus said, but I felt the same way. I had no desire to be entangled with this ill-tempered eagle.
“If you’re really not Keisha, then where did you send Keisha?!”
“I don’t know…”
“Then how did you end up in Keisha’s body?”
“…I don’t know that either.”
In truth, I could tell the story of being electrocuted by an old computer, but explaining that to someone who could transform into an eagle seemed pointless.
“So what do you know?”
“I don’t even know what I know.”
My response, similar to a CEO’s testimony in a congressional hearing, immediately made Ventus’s forehead wrinkle in frustration. Looks like he had quite the temper.
“…A lowly being dares to enter our elven bodies. Displeasing.”
“Elven…?”
Oh wow, it turns out they really were elves. I had thought they all looked like fairies, but they were actually elves. My intuition was spot on.
But it was strange. Weren’t elves supposed to be good and pure? Could there really be elves with such a temper?
‘…I’ve never imagined an ill-tempered elf before.’
Indeed, that’s why stereotypes should be eradicated. Ill-tempered elves, I acknowledge it now.
“What, have you never seen an elf before? Well, that’s surprising. It’s not easy for a lowly being to catch a glimpse of us.”
Ventus chuckled, displaying a level of pride that was truly astonishing. Beautiful appearance, but a far-from-beautiful character. The contrast gave me whiplash.
“…Alright, assuming that’s the case, what is Keisha’s life like?”
“It’s nothing remarkable. Keisha’s missions were largely child’s play.”
“What’s it like? Please tell me.”
I urged Ventus, imagining the Monarch’s gentle yet imposing smile. I wanted to leave this Regia place as soon as possible.
“It’s very simple.”
Ventus smirked arrogantly.
“Even Keisha, who was a failing student, could handle these tasks. So, it shouldn’t be difficult for a lowly being like you.”
“What is it?”
“It’s a daily report on the daily routine of the High Lord Rai Sherfied.”
Ventus sounded unconcerned.
‘I can’t believe the pigeon was a spy for the elves. That’s so creepy…’
Then had Rai been pouring affection for an elf spy all this time?
As various thoughts raced through my mind, Ventus fetched a cage from somewhere.
Inside the birdcage, crafted from interwoven tree branches, there was a small bird, slightly smaller than a dove, with pristine white feathers covering it. A single blue feather protruded like an ornament above its head, and its plump cheeks were rather cute.
But what was this bird? Just as I was wondering, Ventus spoke up.
“This is the one who used to be Lord High Shepherd’s familiar.”
“…Huh?”
“Her name was Coo or something like that. Anyway, we brought her here to take care of her when we put Keisha in her place, about two months ago.”
I see. This bird was Coo, the previous Coo. Well, I should say the original Coo. Having been caught up in the plans of the sinister elves, Coo had been living quite well, judging by her plump appearance.
“But why did you bring Coo…?”
“To pull off a perfect disguise, you’ll need to observe Coo’s movements closely.”
“Oh, there wasn’t any major issue… I see.”
“Also, these are the reports that Keisha has been sending. You should use them for reference.”
When Ventus snapped his fingers, illuminated letters appeared in the air. Letters in the air…?
My eyes quivered, and Ventus, who seemed annoyed, opened his mouth as if he was fed up with my incompetence.
“Elves can communicate using natural energy. Like this, try it.”
“Um… like this?”
“No, like this!”
“…Like this?”
“…Again.”
After a few attempts at practice, Ventus concluded the lesson as soon as I was able to send the letter “O.” He was truly an unenthusiastic instructor.
I followed Ventus’s instructions to summon energy, and the reports Keisha had sent started appearing in front of me.
[Lord Sherfied went to a commercial district bookstore in the morning and did some reading. Nothing out of the ordinary.]
[Lord Sherfied had strawberry tart for breakfast this morning. Must be delicious… Nothing unusual happened.]
Although there seemed to be some personal emotions mixed in, I roughly understood the format of the reports.
“Alright, you can go now.”
Ventus gestured as if to hurry me along.
‘Yeah, I was hoping for that…’
But now, I needed to return to the tower, and I had no idea how to get there. Since Ventus had led me here, I didn’t exactly know the way back.
‘What should I do? I really don’t want to be led back like before…’
As I pondered, a thought flashed through my mind.
‘Maybe…?’
I opened the skill menu and, with a hint of hope, I pressed the skill for Coo-Coo. If this was a skill to fly on Rai’s shoulder, then maybe…
[Use Skill – Coo-Coo.]
A moment later, the system window popped up.
[You’re a long way from the target. Do you want to auto-travel?]
Long live auto-travel.
