I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 109
“Yes, very well.”
The delighted tavern owners quickly brought out a bottle of wine as if they had been waiting for the chance.
One glass, two glasses. Iruel kept emptying his glass.
He felt a compulsion to drink each time his glass was refilled. Thus, he forcefully gulped down the bright red wine.
Faces from the Eustice Viscounty appeared before him.
His father, stepmother, and two siblings. People he had tried to love in hopes of being loved back.
But no matter how hard he tried, he could never earn their love, leading to this catastrophic fallout.
He felt miserable.
He had hit the people of the Eustice Viscounty hard, exposing all their desperately hidden secrets, and left their reputations in tatters, but why didn’t he feel more liberated?
“Damn it.”
He opened a new bottle.
Before the emptied glass could dry, he filled it again. The taste of the alcohol was bitter.
‘Why was I born a man?’
If he had been born a woman, inheriting the pure blood of demons and born a complete witch, he wouldn’t have had to deal with these humans.
He could have continued living at the Demon King’s castle with his mother and the demons…
He cursed himself for not being born a witch.
He drank and drank.
Until the face of Viscount Eustice blurred in his mind, until he could no longer think clearly, until he felt nauseous from an empty stomach, he kept drinking.
Severely drunk, Iruel staggered out onto the street.
‘I should head to the borders now.’
Rufus. That villainous Rufus… He had to go meet him.
Since he had left the capital two days ago, it should be about time to meet him.
With that thought, Iruel moved forward aimlessly.
People on the street avoided Iruel, who reeked of strong alcohol. Parents hurriedly hid their children behind them.
As he staggered down the street, a shout came from behind.
“Move aside! A carriage is coming!”
A carriage was speeding from a distance.
People quickly cleared the way. However, dazed, Iruel couldn’t control his body properly.
“Hey you! Move aside!”
He barely managed to turn his body, but it was too difficult to avoid the charging horse.
Crash!
Iruel was struck by the carriage and landed headfirst on the street.
“I told you to move! What are you doing on the road where carriages travel!”
The coachman stopped the carriage in haste and shouted loudly.
“Damn, hurts like hell…”
Slowly, Iruel raised his head.
He felt something hot trickling down his forehead. When he wiped it with his hand, his palm came away covered in bright red blood.
Iruel furrowed his brow deeply.
“Ah, I’m going mad.”
“Are you alright?”
The coachman asked Iruel in a worried tone as he shook off the blood.
Iruel exhaled deeply.
Look at this coachman trembling. He must be worried about having to pay compensation.
“Nothing but a gash.”
Iruel flicked off the dripping blood as he responded.
At those words, the coachman quickly grabbed his whip and, as if fleeing, drove the horse away and disappeared.
Iruel got up and dusted the dirt off his pants.
“Damn it.”
He felt the sting of disdainful gazes around him.
Looking up, he noticed everyone was glancing at him furtively. He sensed something familiar in their stares.
It was the same look that the Viscount, the Viscountess, and Iruel’s two siblings gave him.
Everyone despised and avoided Iruel.
‘That’s just my life, isn’t it?’
Iruel wiped the blood trickling down his forehead once more.
This treatment was better. It was better to be rejected by people. It reminded him once again that he was not a ‘complete human’.
‘I am not human.’
Stumbling like a broken wheel, Iruel muttered to himself.
Not human. That’s why he was different from the people of the Eustice Viscounty. He did not want to accept their arrogant eyes that looked down on others, their black lips that professed false love, nor their hands that stabbed the hearts of the innocent as part of himself.
‘Why am I a human? I’m not human, I’m a demon. A demon, a demon.’
As he brainwashed himself while walking, something sparkling caught his eye.
It was a shop selling women’s jewelry.
Various jewels were laid out inside a clear glass display case. Seeing those sparkling objects reminded him of something.
The silver coins Rufus had given out as payment to his subordinates. He had received some of those coins too.
He put his hand in his pocket and felt a few silver coins.
‘This should be enough.’
Iruel unhesitatingly opened the door to the shop.
“Welcome… Aaah!”
The clerk screamed upon seeing Iruel’s blood-stained face.
“Ah geez, you startled me. Why scream? Haven’t you ever seen someone hit by a carriage?”
“You were hit by a carriage? This isn’t a hospital!”
“I know. It’s just a scratch, so don’t make a fuss and just give me a ring I can buy with this money.”
Iruel pushed the silver coins towards the clerk.
“A ring? Which kind do you want?”
The clerk, eyeing Iruel cautiously, took the money.
“Something pretty.”
“All the rings we sell here are pretty.”
“Well, who sells ugly rings? Show me one that’s made of iron.”
“Ah, these days iron rings are less popular than silver rings. Silver rings are also useful for warding off demons, so many women prefer them for protection…”
“I said, give me an iron one.”
Iruel cut off the clerk. The clerk, halting his speech, brought out an iron ring.
Squinting, Iruel looked over the rings. Having never chosen a ring before, he was unsure what was considered pretty.
“Who are you gifting it to? I can recommend one for you.”
The clerk spoke up, seeing Iruel hesitating.
To that, Iruel immediately replied.
“For a woman who I love.”
