I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 144
It didn’t take long to reach the Demon King’s castle. With the magic stone of Demon King Audixus, Iruel could fly much faster than before, and transporting the cursed sword was a bonus.
When Rufus and Iruel arrived at the Demon King’s castle, a small commotion arose.
“Look at that. It’s Rufus the human.”
“That human is the one who received the Demon King’s heart…”
Several demons whispered among themselves.
Rufus the human.
No longer just a “bug-like human,” but a clearly named “Rufus the human.”
Rufus was no longer a worthless creature like an insect.
He was a human man who had received the heart of Demon King Audixus. Noble demon blood flowed within him, and he was not someone who could be easily approached.
However, not everyone welcomed him warmly.
“A lowly human dares to receive the Demon King’s heart.”
“Hmph, a filthy human pretending to be a demon.”
Some demons openly gnashed their teeth. They were outraged that their king had given his heart to a human, a creature they considered as worthless as an insect.
Ignoring all the conflicting gazes, Rufus and Iruel went to find the witch Odr.
These beings were not worth paying attention to. It didn’t matter what his reputation was among the demons. He had never intended to win their favor anyway. All that he did was for Sarubia.
For her, he was willing to be scorned by everyone, to be spat upon by everyone, to be antagonized by everyone, and that was fine.
For her, anything was acceptable.
The witch Odr was in her workshop located in the Demon King’s castle. She was in the middle of brewing a magical potion.
In a cauldron large enough to fit a full-grown man, an unknown liquid was bubbling. Seeing this, Iruel immediately grabbed a spoon.
“Oh, Sir Rufus. Welcome. I’ve been expecting you.”
Catching Iruel trying to sneak a taste of the cauldron’s contents, the witch Odr smiled brightly at Rufus.
“Would you like something to drink?”
“No, thank you.”
“Don’t refuse. You must be exhausted from cleaning up after my dimwitted son.”
Maintaining her bright smile, the witch Odr took the spoon from Iruel’s hand.
“What would you like? Kraken eye juice? Salamander tail tea?”
“Really, I’m fine.”
“Mother, I’ll have the Salamander tail tea—”
“So, did you bring the item?”
The witch Odr cut off Iruel’s words. Rufus nodded and handed her the bundled cloth.
“Oh my.”
Unwrapping the bundle, the witch Odr involuntarily held her breath.
“Pure silver. This…”
“Yes, it’s Queen Echinacea’s cursed sword that Prince Tarek had hidden.”
The witch Odr’s eyes gleamed as she looked down at the cursed sword.
The high purity of the silver made it hard to breathe. Even a slight touch of her fingers made her feel as if her whole body was burning. Despite this, the witch Odr couldn’t take her eyes off the cursed sword.
“Humans do the most interesting things.”
The witch Odr looked down at the cursed sword with an excited expression.
The cursed sword containing the soul of Queen Echinacea. A holy relic that challenged the human taboo of splitting and storing a living human soul.
“Watch closely, Mother.”
Iruel, feeling proud, infused the cursed sword with magic.
The sword flashed brightly. In an instant, the specter of a woman reappeared. The specter, which Iruel had been suppressing with his magic, was once again released.
“How dare you disgrace me further, you ungrateful wretch!”
The specter of Queen Echinacea, emerging from the sword, flew straight at Rufus.
“Now I see who you are. You are a demon! You cursed being!”
The specter, right in front of Rufus’s face, scolded him in a sharp voice. Rufus’s expression did not change.
“I am not a demon, Your Majesty. I am human.”
“Liar! If you are not a demon, how can you enter and exit this cursed place without any restriction?”
“You just need to be rude.”
Iruel suddenly interjected,
“The ghost is quite noisy.”
The witch Odr opened the drawers of the storage cabinets that were lined up along the wall. One by one, instruments were placed on the table from the drawers.
“So, what shall I do? Shall I get rid of the specter as originally planned?”
The witch Odr asked Rufus, brushing back her red hair.
The specter was taken aback.
“Get rid of me? What do you mean by that?”
“Yes, please do.”
Rufus calmly sat on a chair.
“Are you sure? No regrets?”
“Of course.”
“Excellent. It’s been a while since I got to use my skills.”
With Rufus’s permission, the witch Odr smiled slyly and grabbed a pair of thick gloves. They were gloves inscribed with a unique magic circle used by demons.
The specter of the queen urgently turned towards the witch Odr.
“What are you doing? How dare a cursed demon attempt this!”
“Cursed demon? I’m a blessed demon.”
The witch Odr giggled as she looked at the queen’s specter.
The specter ground her teeth.
“Don’t even think about touching me. The moment you do, your hand will melt away.”
“Really? Oh, how scary.”
Wearing the gloves, the witch Odr firmly grasped the cursed sword. Nothing happened.
“No… No, why!”
The specter screamed in shock as the witch Odr handled the sword as easily as an iron blade.
“This is the triumph of modern magic, Your Majesty.”
