I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 149
According to the original plan, Sarubia should have seen the letter hidden in the bouquet and waited for Roned in the palace today. But now she was refusing to meet him. Caught off guard by this unexpected turn of events, Roned was at a loss.
Prince Camus frowned.
“What is going on here?”
“Well, uh… Primrose… I mean, the Saintess… I have no idea why she is refusing to see me…”
“What!”
Prince Camus was exasperated at the sight of Roned’s stammering.
The palace was already teeming with watchful eyes. After taking the trouble to dress up elaborately and personally visiting Prince Tarek’s palace, it would be disgraceful to return without even seeing the Saintess.
‘Useless.’
Cursing Roned silently, Prince Camus glanced at the guards he had brought with him.
There were about ten of them. That would suffice.
When words fail, use force.
Deciding to force his way into Prince Tarek’s palace, Prince Camus subtly gestured to his guards. In response, the guards surrounded Prince Tarek’s soldiers.
“What is the meaning of this!”
“What are you doing!”
Though they were hostile brothers, no one would have imagined that one would storm the other’s palace in broad daylight.
Prince Tarek’s gate guards, unable to put up a fight, found themselves encircled by the guards accompanying Prince Camus. They had no choice but to watch helplessly as Prince Camus strode into Prince Tarek’s palace.
The palace of Prince Tarek quickly became a scene of chaos.
“Prince Camus, what is the meaning of this!”
Prince Tarek’s scribes rushed out, not even fully dressed.
But Prince Camus did not spare them a glance.
“I am here to see Saintess Sarubia.”
“Pardon?”
“Take me to Saintess Sarubia at once. That is an order.”
“If you mean the Saintess…”
The scribes could not hide their awkward expressions.
It was an order from Prince Camus, a royal. Royal commands were absolute and could not be defied. However, the scribes could not comply.
“Prince Camus… We are sorry, but the Saintess is not in the palace.”
Not in the palace?
Prince Camus furrowed his brow.
“What do you mean? Tomorrow is the banquet to celebrate Tarek’s return. How could she leave the palace before such an important event?”
“The Saintess… has gone fishing.”
“…Fishing?”
Prince Camus involuntarily ground his teeth.
Fishing, fishing. That damned fishing excuse again. It was an unbelievable pretext. A saintess, a blessed figure of the noble kingdom, going fishing because she had nothing better to do?
“Do you take me for a fool?”
“N-No, Your Highness! What we say is true!”
“Enough, shut up!”
The excuses from the scribes only fueled Prince Camus’s anger.
“It seems Tarek is playing tricks! Call Tarek out here immediately!”
“P-Prince Tarek has not yet arisen.”
Adding fuel to the fire, the scribes’ words only increased Prince Camus’s fury.
“It is nearly midday! And Tarek is still not out of bed?”
“Yes, Your Highness…”
The scribes were relieved that Prince Tarek was still asleep. According to the maids, Prince Tarek had passed out drunk the night before.
The scribes did not want to wake the sleeping Prince Tarek. If he were still hungover and began to act out, it could escalate into a major conflict with Prince Camus.
Getting Prince Camus out of the palace quickly was the best course of action. One of the scribes cautiously spoke up.
“Prince Camus, we are sorry, but since you cannot meet the Saintess, please…”
“Impertinent! How dare a mere servant command a royal!”
At that moment, a rough female voice called out from behind.
“What is all this commotion?”
Prince Camus turned to see an elderly woman standing there. Judging by her attire, she appeared to be a noble, though her face was unfamiliar.
Prince Camus frowned.
“Who are you?”
“I am Baroness Inferna.”
The woman declared proudly.
Only then did Prince Camus recognize her. She was Rufus’s grandmother, the head of the Inferna family from the border. The same troublesome old woman who used to petition the king incessantly.
Behind her stood a young boy with striking silver hair as pure as snow. He must be Rufus’s younger brother.
It seemed that Rufus’s entire family—though it consisted only of his grandmother and younger brother—had come to the capital.
‘When did they arrive?’
Prince Camus clicked his tongue in annoyance.
These lowly people, not knowing their place.
If Baroness Inferna was here, it meant Rufus was too.
‘This is getting bothersome.’
Prince Camus wanted to avoid confronting Rufus.
As he reluctantly began to step back, Baroness Inferna suddenly asked,
“What brings you here, Your Highness?”
“There is no need for you to know.”
Prince Camus replied curtly.
But Baroness Inferna did not back down easily. As the rumors suggested, she was indeed a formidable woman.
“If you are here to see my grandson Rufus, you will have to wait until late afternoon.”
“Why? Is Rufus out fishing as well?”
Prince Camus retorted sarcastically. The response was unexpected.
“Yes, Rufus went out with the Saintess.”
“What?”
Prince Camus was taken aback.
“Rufus went out with the Saintess?”
“Yes, that is correct.”
Why the hell!
