I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 187
Sarubia slowly lifted her eyes.
Dragged from the palace against her will, her appearance was a mess. The hem of her pure white dress was torn in multiple places, and bright red handprints were left all over her body, including her wrists.
“…”
She looked directly into Prince Camus’s eyes. Like those of Princess Sordid, whom Sarubia once served, his eyes were strikingly beautiful. Yet, within them lay the prince’s tragic fate.
“…Prince Camus, you will die tonight.”
Slap!
Prince Camus struck Sarubia hard across the face, causing her to stumble.
“You, a lowly servant, dare to speak as if you know anything?”
Camus slapped her again.
“I am Crown Prince Viren’s loyal confidant! I will thrive alongside the Crown Prince! That is what will happen!”
Enraged, the prince struck her once more, then again. Sarubia’s cheeks flushed a deep red from the blows, but she didn’t let out a single sound of pain.
She simply gazed at Prince Camus, her golden eyes glowing quietly.
It had been years ago. Sarubia had glimpsed Prince Camus’s eyes when he visited Princess Sordid’s palace, and at that moment, she had seen his final moments.
The end for him would be filled with endless despair and terror. It was pitiful, but it was unavoidable. Sarubia’s unique magic, which allowed her to see death, did not allow her to interfere with it directly.
Sarubia felt genuine pity for Prince Camus.
She truly did.
He was a man doomed to die soon, and his fear of it was consuming him. How could she not feel sorry for him?
Camus grabbed Sarubia by the collar.
“I will not die tonight! I will live! I will survive and rule Hevania alongside Crown Prince Viren!”
His scream turned into a desperate wail, and eventually, the prince collapsed to the ground.
“Saintess… please, I beg you.”
Prince Camus knelt at her feet.
His eyes were red, his face drenched in cold sweat, and filled with uncontrollable fear.
“Please… have mercy on me.”
Prince Camus, once proud, now knelt before the Saintess, a mere servant girl, begging for his life.
“You saved Prince Tarek with your prophecy, didn’t you? Please… save me too…”
Tears began to fall, one by one, onto the ground where he knelt.
“Prince Camus.”
Sarubia looked down at the broken man before her.
“You will die tonight. No one can stop that.”
It was the final verdict. The cruelty of her words shattered what little remained of Camus’s composure.
“You wretched woman!”
Unable to control his emotions any longer, Camus lunged at Sarubia, his hands gripping her throat. Her body lifted off the ground.
“How dare you call yourself a Saintess when you can’t even save a single life!”
Camus’s grip tightened as he poured his fury into Sarubia.
Struggling to breathe, Sarubia gasped and fought against him, but the prince, using his magic, was too strong.
Her breath became more and more strained.
It felt as though every cell in her body was bursting like fragile bubbles. The sensation of burning spread throughout her limbs. The breath she couldn’t release turned into an unbearable weight that burned inside her. Her lips drained of color, and her body began to grow cold.
Her vision blurred, and she lost strength in each of her fingers.
—No.
With trembling hands, Sarubia clenched her fists.
Unable to bear looking at Camus anymore, she squeezed her eyes shut. Tears flowed helplessly from her tightly shut eyes, her body shaking as she wept silently.
“I’ll prove your prophecy wrong!”
Camus’s frenzied shout rang out.
“Listen to me! You will die tonight, and I will survive!”
—No.
Forcing herself to cling to consciousness as she felt it slipping away, Sarubia screamed inwardly.
I… I won’t die here.
I can’t die yet.
I made a promise. I made a promise to Rufus, the only man I could ever love. To the one who embraced someone as worthless as me, I made my first true promise. I promised that I would live one day longer than you.
In the future I saw, I was there, witnessing your death.
So.
I cannot die yet.
The only one who will die here tonight… is this man.
Sarubia’s limp hand reached under her skirt.
It all happened in an instant.
