I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 34
Declaring so coldly, the king raised his sword.
“No!”
“Rufus!”
Both Inferna Marquis and Sarubia shouted simultaneously.
The king’s sword descended towards Rufus’s neck.
The blade pierced through the flesh.
Drip, drip, drip—
Dark blood stained the grass.
“Ah…”
Rufus looked ahead of him.
He saw a sword stuck on the back.
The king’s sword, swung down, had pierced through Sarubia’s body.
Suddenly faced with the appearance of a woman blocking his prey, the king was bewildered.
“This insolent wench!”
The king quickly withdrew the sword, pushing the woman aside. The woman’s small body collapsed weakly.
“SARUBIA!”
Beyond the fading breath, Rufus roared.
“This lowly maid. This is the woman you chose instead of my daughter.”
With biting sarcasm, the king alternately glared at Rufus and Sarubia.
“Rufus, why are you looking at me like that? Don’t worry. I’ll make sure that you will spend all the time in the world with this we—”
But the king couldn’t finish his sentence.
Thud.
The head that had once been attached to the king’s body rolled on the ground.
Thump.
Behind the lifeless king’s body stood Baroness Inferna, holding a raised sword.
“Don’t touch my grandson, you bastard.”
Baroness Inferna wiped the splattered blood off her face and coughed.
“Sarubia!”
Rufus, who had been frozen in shock, embraced the fallen Sarubia.
“Get ahold of yourself, Sarubia!”
“Rufus…”
With great effort, Sarubia opened her eyes and looked at Rufus.
“I… I did it.”
“What?”
“Your grandmother was supposed to die… from the king’s sword… but I defied fate…”
Through labored breaths, Sarubia managed a faint smile.
The raging flames, the frenzied crowd, and the gleaming blue blades.
In the future Sarubia witnessed, Baroness Inferna, while trying to protect Rufus, was fatally stabbed by the king’s sword. So, Sarubia attempted to change that future.
Running ahead of Baroness Inferna, Sarubia threw herself, taking the king’s sword in place of her.
“Sarubia, what in the world are you saying!”
“Exactly as it sounds… I interfered with your grandmother’s death… Haha, this is really happening…”
“Sarubia! What have you done!”
“Sorry, I didn’t know I would end up dying too…”
With those words, Sarubia’s eyes slowly closed.
“SARUBIA!”
Rufus hastily held Sarubia’s body. His hands were stained with fresh blood.
It was a serious injury. Not the kind that could be healed with magic.
“Lies.”
His hands trembled.
“Didn’t you promise to be by my side until I die?”
Suppressing the unrelenting tremor, Rufus grabbed onto the hem of Sarubia’s clothes.
“Sarubia, don’t close your eyes. Look at me, look at me!”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you cry…”
Forcing a smile, Sarubia spoke.
The man’s head dropped. Tears from Sarubia’s pale cheeks shattered into fragments.
“Don’t cry.”
With her last bit of strength, Sarubia gently cupped the man’s cheek.
A big man shedding tears, you’re quite cute, too.
—Rufus, you won’t know.
From the moment I met you, I fell in love with you.
When I looked at you, it felt like dozens of butterflies were fluttering inside me.
Above my head, hundreds of flowers bloomed and swayed, creating a feeling of tranquility.
As if my feet had become clouds, I approached you along with the wind.
But I was too young and inexperienced.
So, cowardly, I stole a kiss from your lips.
I didn’t know any other way.
No matter how much I pondered with my immature and dull mind, I couldn’t figure out how to leave myself to you.
I was so embarrassed that I couldn’t even ask for your name.
I could only make foolish jokes, and I didn’t have the confidence to reach out to you.
Since then, every day, I prayed for you.
Prayed that you wouldn’t get hurt.
Prayed that your heart wouldn’t ache.
Prayed that you wouldn’t shed tears.
When I came to my senses, I realized that I had been thinking about you every second of every day for three years.
And when you finally came back.
When you came back to find me.
When you called my name…
From that moment, I made a promise.
Thank you.
Thanks to you, the loneliness of death feels a little less lonely…
As she silently conveyed her feelings, the man was calling Sarubia’s name in tears.
In response, Sarubia gave a faint smile.
“I… want to see the fuchsia flowers in your hometown….”
Uttering an unattainable wish, Sarubia closed her eyes.
