I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 50
The Demon King’s castle was located far from the kingdom of Hevania. Surrounded by treacherous mountains and teeming with monstrous creatures, no trace of humans could be seen near the castle.
The Witch Odr dropped Rufus off at the highest point of the Demon King’s castle.
As Rufus set foot in the castle, sinister faces emerged.
Demons.
“How dare a mere human come to see our King.”
“Such an insect-like human.”
The demons muttered disdainfully as Rufus followed the Witch Odr.
“Looks like you might die today, Lieutenant.”
From afar, Iruel, now mixed among the demons, jeered. He had returned to his original form.
A large stone door blocked Rufus’s path.
“Hand over your sword for now.”
The Witch Odr said, and Rufus obediently handed over his sword, which she carefully moved with her magic, ensuring it didn’t touch her.
“King Audixus, I have brought Lieutenant Rufus to you.”
“Let him in.”
The stone door slowly opened. As it did, an extraordinary scene unfolded before Rufus’s eyes.
It was like a vast cave, with all kinds of jewels embedded in the rugged walls. A large crystal hung from the ceiling, and unknown minerals sparkled all around. It seemed that Demon King Audixus’s promise to give Rufus his treasures before his death was not false.
“Why, isn’t this the foolish hero who abandoned everything for one woman!”
King Audixus, seated on his throne, laughed heartily as he stood up.
Indeed, King Audixus remembered Rufus.
He retained his monstrous form, inspiring terror at a mere glance. Yet, Rufus walked up to him calmly and bowed respectfully.
“We meet again, Demon King Audixus. Thanks to you, I could meet her again.”
“Yes, your wish brought me back as well.”
Brought back? What does that mean? The other demons present, overhearing the conversation between a human and the Demon King, were filled with suspicion.
Demon King Audixus continued to laugh at Rufus. It was far from a gentle laugh.
“Foolish one, how dare you come alone to meet me? Are you not afraid I might kill you instantly?”
Demon King Audixus’s red eyes gleamed.
“If you intended to kill me, you wouldn’t have sent the witch to formally escort me to the Demon King’s castle, would you?”
“Hah.”
The Demon King snorted at Rufus’s audacious retort.
Such a brash human.
“And you, too, seemed to want to meet me.”
“Indeed. For a human, you understand my intentions well.”
Rufus’s assumption was correct. When the Demon King heard that Rufus requested a meeting, he was piqued with curiosity.
Why would this foolish human want to meet him? Even if it meant killing him, he thought it wouldn’t hurt to hear what Rufus had to say.
Rufus looked squarely at the Demon King.
“Demon King Audixus, humans are trying to kill you. Will you continue to fight?”
“I know. But I won’t be taken down easily.”
“Do you not realize how persistent humans can be? The human king will employ every means to kill you.”
Rufus spoke firmly.
“If it continues like this, many demons will die. And you will ultimately be defeated by humans. Just like last time.”
Bang!
The other demons listening around them shuddered at Rufus’s words.
“How dare a human insult our King like this!”
“Your Majesty, let me tear this insolent human to pieces!”
“Silence.”
The Demon King raised his hand to quiet his followers.
“So, have you come to suggest that I surrender? If so, you will die right here.”
“Surrender? How could I suggest such a dishonorable thing to the great Demon King who rules over the demons.”
Rufus carefully chose his words, gauging the Demon King’s mood.
“I have come to offer the kingdom of Hevania to the demons.”
Offer a human kingdom to the demons?
At Rufus’s statement, all the demons gathered in the hall were thrown into confusion. They began to murmur and huddle together.
Even King Audixus looked down at Rufus with an expression of disbelief.
“Offering the kingdom to the demons, what do you mean by that?”
“You must know, Demon King Audixus. The King of Hevania tried to kill me, the nation’s hero, and his children were all the same.”
The human king who, believing baseless rumors, treated Rufus as a traitor and sought his death. The crown prince and princes who tried to execute Rufus and Baroness Inferna. And Princess Sordid, who cursed Rufus until her last breath, attempted to strangle him.
It was because of them that Sarubia died.
