I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 96
“It’s okay. I’ll be back in a week.”
Rufus reassured Sarubia with a kiss on her eyelids.
“Why specifically a week?”
“His Majesty the King wants to see me in a week.”
To be precise, the king had said that if Rufus didn’t find Prince Tarek within a week, he would be executed.
“I want to go to the border with you.”
Sarubia suddenly said.
“You want to come with me?”
“Yes. A week is too long to wait. I’ll go with you.”
“…”
Rufus didn’t know how to respond to Sarubia’s request. The thought of being with Sarubia was too tempting to refuse.
However, there were too many things at the border that he couldn’t expose her to.
“I appreciate the thought, but it’s too dangerous for you. Stay here in the palace.”
Yet, Sarubia was adamant.
“No, let’s go together. I can’t wait a week. I’ll come with you.”
“…”
“Have you forgotten? I’m a saintess.”
Sarubia tapped her shoulder confidently.
“My unique magic is predicting others’ deaths. I don’t have the power to prevent death, but it could still be quite useful if utilized properly.”
“…”
Rufus just smiled and looked at Sarubia.
That’s the problem. Sarubia is a saintess. That’s why he couldn’t take her to the border.
A saintess had the power to neutralize a witch’s magic.
What lies ahead requires the witch’s magic. Sarubia’s presence would disrupt the plan.
“Sarubia, I really appreciate your concern. But it’s really okay.”
“But…”
Sarubia tried to say something more, but realizing Rufus wouldn’t take her along no matter what, she closed her mouth.
“I’ll still go.”
“Why are you so determined to go? We can meet again in just a week.”
Rufus himself found his argument unconvincing. He too felt heavy-hearted. The thought of a week without Sarubia felt like hell.
“Because I want to see you every day.”
Sarubia climbed onto Rufus’s lap.
“Did you know? I missed you so much that you appeared in my dreams later on.”
“I’m quite glad to hear that.”
Rufus chuckled and caressed Sarubia’s cheek.
“I’m the same.”
It wasn’t enough.
No matter how much he touched Sarubia, something deeply rooted in the middle of his heart showed no sign of being fulfilled.
The kiss that followed seemed to never end.
“Haah…”
Gasping for air after the endless kissing, Sarubia swayed. Rufus gently embraced her.
“What did we do in your dream, Sarubia?”
“We went for a walk… Just a walk.”
Sarubia clung to Rufus, catching her breath.
“A walk. And then?”
“Just a walk.”
“You’re telling me all we did in your dream was walk?”
“Yes, that’s all.”
A lie. They must have done more than just walking.
“We saw fish while walking, and looked at trees… It was fun.”
“Is that really all?”
“Yes, it is. Why do you keep asking?”
“It’s strange.”
Rufus remarked with a meaningful look as Sarubia questioned him with a ‘Huh?’
“It seems that the version of me in your heart is quite a gentleman.”
“Is that not the case?”
“…”
“Rufus? Why aren’t you answering?”
“…”
No response came.
Rufus silently observed Sarubia.
“Are we having a staring contest…?”
Confused by the unending gaze, Sarubia felt bewildered about Rufus’s behavior.
Just as she pondered over his actions, Rufus suddenly brushed his lips against Sarubia’s earlobe.
“Ah.”
Involuntarily, Sarubia jerked her head back.
What was that?
Her heart started racing, thumping wildly.
The breath lingering around her ear was palpable. The slight touch of his lips had her earlobe burning as if brushed by a candle flame.
“Sorry, I saw a wound on your ear.”
Rufus pointed at Sarubia’s left ear.
“Oh, this.”
Sarubia pressed on her left ear.
“I actually messed up trying to pierce it.”
“Why were you trying to pierce it?”
“I wanted to look pretty because you were coming today, so I tried to pierce it and ended up like this.”
“How much prettier were you trying to get?”
“I wanted to be pretty enough for you to regret leaving me alone for a week to go to the border.”
“You’ve really got quite the way with words.”
Rufus laughed and leaned in towards Sarubia again.
“Since it happened because of me, I’ll take responsibility.”
Rufus’s lips once more enveloped Sarubia’s earlobe. Hot air swirled in through the small passage, the soft flesh enveloped in moist heat, and the sticky sound was clearly audible.
It was a sensation she had never experienced before.
“Ouch…”
Was it because of the wound on her ear? Sarubia unknowingly let out a moan. Her toes involuntarily clenched. She felt inexplicably out of breath.
“It’s okay. It’ll heal soon.”
His low voice resonated in her ear. Sarubia closed her eyes tightly.
“Are you using magic?”
“Yes.”
Rufus bit her earlobe again. That tiny stimulation made Sarubia twitch.
“I think the wound has healed now…”
“I know.”
Rufus bit her one more time.
Sarubia involuntarily shrank her neck. A chill sensation began to rise up her spine.
“Why do you keep doing it?”
“Because you look cute when your face turns red.”
“…You have a strange hobby.”
Sarubia turned her head away sharply. Rufus quietly watched her.
“Why are you avoiding?”
“It feels a bit weird.”
“Is it not okay to feel weird?”
Rufus lightly kissed her earlobe again and asked.
“Is it difficult for you?”
“Um… my neck hurts.”
“Then you should lie down properly.”
Rufus laid Sarubia down straight on the bed.
Sarubia obediently laid her head on the pillow. Her long hair spread lusciously across the bed.
