I Want To Die One Day Before You - Chapter 97
Sarubia smiled playfully.
“Good night.”
“I’m not tucking you into bed right now.”
Rufus replied brusquely.
“But I need to sleep. I have to go to work tomorrow.”
“Quit your job now.”
“Oh, speaking so easily about someone else’s job.”
“Not someone else. I may not be much, but I can afford to feed you.”
“I can afford to feed you too.”
Sarubia pouted her lower lip.
“Just wait a bit. I’m finally coming of age soon. I’ll scrape together all the money I’ve saved and start a store.”
“What kind of store?”
“Um, a brooch store?”
“Think it over again.”
“Okay.”
Sarubia quietly observed the shadow of Rufus looming over her.
Despite casually tossing around nonsensical words, Sarubia was tense.
Rufus, straddling over her, was too close. Her reflection was nearly visible in his eyes.
“You’re too close.”
Sarubia poked Rufus’s cheek.
“And?”
“It’s a bit embarrassing.”
“Then I’ll just turn off the light.”
“You’re really so sly.”
“Or it’s fine to continue while looking at each other’s faces.”
“Don’t say strange things……”
Her words were swallowed by the creaking noise of the bed tilting under the shifted weight.
“Put your arms here.”
Rufus guided Sarubia’s arms around his neck. Soon, an intense kiss relentlessly invaded Sarubia.
The warmth filled her mouth completely.
Breaths intermingled and pushed through the gap between two lips.
Intertwined lips, hands sneaking under clothes, and a strange sensation tingling down her spine.
She couldn’t think straight. She was helplessly consumed by this stimulating ecstasy.
“Wait……”
As she ran out of breath, Sarubia tried to push Rufus away.
Rufus swallowed her voice.
“Stop… mmh…”
He didn’t stop.
Rufus continued to cover her lips whenever she tried to speak.
He couldn’t stop.
Sarubia turned her head trying to escape the kiss. Rufus closely followed, not letting her go.
“Wait… I said stop!”
Eventually, Sarubia covered Rufus’s mouth with her hand.
“…”
With his mouth covered, Rufus quietly observed Sarubia. Confused by the man’s deep gaze, Sarubia didn’t know what to do.
Was he angry? Why wasn’t he speaking?
“Um, I mean, it’s not that I dislike it… but sometimes you’re too passionate, and it’s hard for me.”
“…”
“Because, when you’re too much, I end up making strange noises, and that’s embarrassing in its own way…”
“…”
Rufus gave no response, just staring intently at Sarubia.
Thrown off by Rufus’s unusual reaction, Sarubia stumbled over her words.
“Um, so…! It’s because I get really, really embarrassed… eek!”
A slippery sensation grazed Sarubia’s palm. A bright red tongue slowly trailed down her palm.
“D-Don’t lick! It doesn’t taste good!”
As Sarubia tried to pull her hand away, Rufus grabbed her wrist. With his eyes fixed on Sarubia, Rufus remained silent.
“Nnh…”
A pleasant shiver ran down Sarubia’s spine, and she bit her lower lip slightly.
What could the meaning of this action be?
Sarubia watched as Rufus enveloped her palm with his mouth.
His tongue slid across her palm, wrapping around her fingers. A moist warmth enveloped the tips of her fingers. The sensation of his tongue moving between her fingers was distinctly felt.
Rufus was silent the whole time. He just captured Sarubia’s eyes with his from start to end. His gaze made Sarubia’s face burn with warmth.
She realized it.
There was no escaping anymore. This man with little patience had already reached his limit.
Gulp.
Sarubia swallowed dryly.
What exactly does this man intend to do?
“Sarubia.”
“Y-Yes?”
“I am neither polite nor patient.”
“…”
Why was he suddenly talking bad about himself? Sarubia looked directly at Rufus.
Rufus’s face, as he struggled to speak, seemed quite troubled.
“If you knew what I’m thinking about right now, you might want to get rid of me.”
“…”
“And I’m not good with words, so I can’t say things to please you. I’m unnecessarily blunt and can’t even be romantic…”
“…”
“I’m too selfish and ignorant. That’s why… that’s why I can only approach you in this way.”
“…”
“So, I…”
“What do you want to say?”
Sarubia interrupted him.
“Don’t ramble, summarize it in three sentences.”
Challenged by her pointed observation, Rufus groaned and closed his eyes. How could he possibly express what he was feeling right now?
“Sarubia.”
“One sentence.”
“No, that doesn’t count.”
“Two sentences.”
“…”
“One last sentence left.”
Sarubia showed a mischievous smile.
See? He’s provoking me again. Rufus sighed.
Think. What should he do?
He wanted to say something impressive.
Something that would shake her heart, memorable and historical, that kind of statement.
Amidst the man’s turmoil, the woman urged him on.
“Hurry up and say it.”
The pressure in the man’s heart increased further. Cornered, his thoughts became jammed.
“Why aren’t you speaking, Rufus?”
At Sarubia’s second urging, Rufus reluctantly opened his mouth.
“What I want to say is… I feel like I might die without you, so could you please rescue this poor soul and marry me, Miss Sarubia?”
After finishing that long sentence, Rufus exhaled deeply.
There, he said it.
Exactly what he had wanted to say, without embellishment, without decoration, just as it was, raw and unfiltered.
“Last time… after I beheaded the Demon King, I asked you to marry me, but you didn’t answer.”
Rufus cautiously looked for Sarubia’s reaction as he added the explanation.
“So… could you please give me an answer now, Miss Sarubia?”
“…”
Sarubia said nothing. She just smiled slightly and looked at Rufus. However, Rufus didn’t press her for an answer.
He didn’t need to hear it to know. Just one look into her eyes told him everything.
That her heart was aligned with his.
