If You Conquer Me - Chapter 25
The summer had arrived evenly in Yerhalt as well.
Life at Grand Duke Morgana’s estate was, to put it kindly, leisurely, but honestly, it was rather dull. When Ophelia first arrived at the Grand Duke’s estate, she thought life here wouldn’t be very comfortable, but surprisingly, she was getting by without much discomfort.
She woke up late, had meals, dressed beautifully with the help of the maids, drank tea alone, and sometimes went for walks when she felt bored. Occasionally, she went to the library to read or practiced swordsmanship in the training grounds. The reason she was able to enjoy such a comfortable life was because of…
Hugo.
It was all thanks to Hugo. From the very first day she arrived at the Grand Duke’s residence, Hugo had made sure that Ophelia was seen having meals with him.
“From now on, Leticia, you can just relax and live here.”
“….”
“Just think of it as your own home.”
While fiddling with her utensils, Ophelia gave Hugo a challenging look.
“…Are you saying that I really don’t have to do anything?”
“That’s right.”
Despite the sharpness in her question, Hugo nodded casually.
“My beloved mistress. That’s your role now.”
Smiling with a playful look, Hugo seemed to genuinely care for her… but that wasn’t all. He personally showed her around the estate, introducing her to places like the library and training grounds.
“Until I call for you, feel free to spend your time as you like in the mansion.”
So, Ophelia experienced mixed feelings. Hugo’s consideration was uncomfortable, yet she also felt a little grateful. The lavish treatment she received was, honestly, partly due to Hugo’s influence.
Even now, it was the same. The maid who had escorted Ophelia to the terrace bowed politely to her.
“If you need anything, please feel free to ask.”
“I will.”
Ophelia waved her hand dismissively, signaling that the maid could leave.
The maid bowed again before silently withdrawing. Left alone, Ophelia slumped into the chair.
“…Sigh.”
A long sigh escaped through her half-opened lips.
If someone saw me now, they’d think I’m some pampered young lady.
Ophelia sneered briefly. It was true. The shaded terrace with the cool breeze, the iced tea served in a glass filled with ice, the plate of financiers and madeleines on the luxurious tea table, and the servants who treated her with such formality—it was all part of her lavish treatment.
The only thing that bothered her, if she had to pinpoint it, was the subtle sense of distance she felt from the servants.
Well, that’s nothing.
Ophelia shrugged lightly. Compared to the neglect she endured back in Ascanior, this level of distance was nothing. After all, she had spent her whole life in Ascanior, enduring the disdain of her older siblings. She could let it go.
In fact, it’s impressive how well they hide their aversion.
The servants subtly expressed their distaste for Ophelia, yet they maintained impeccable manners. After all, she was just a mistress, not even a Grand Duchess formally married to Grand Duke Morgana. She had no intention of causing trouble over such things.
But the fact that the servants acted so rigidly and nervously around her meant…
They’re probably afraid of Grand Duke Morgana.
For a moment, her blue eyes narrowed. Perhaps due to the months she’d spent living with Hugo, Ophelia felt like she understood him a little better now.
He doesn’t like unnecessary trouble.
When they first arrived at Grand Duke Morgana’s estate, Hugo had made it clear to the servants.
