But first, he had no time for those feelings. Having acknowledged her brilliance, the next step was to find her.
“Havel.”
“Yes, Your Grace.”
“How many carriages passed through the estate this morning?”
“There were two postal carriages and three supply wagons.”
“It seems the supply wagons didn’t pass by long ago.”
“The only ones that came through before dawn were the postal carriages.”
“Did the postal carriages usually stop at the estate in pairs?”
“I believe they typically operate one at a time.”
“But today, two of them came by?”
“Yes.”
It seemed he had found Agatha’s means of escape. Cain got up from his seat and pulled out a map detailing all the streets of Leden.
“….I didn’t expect her to choose the postal carriage.”
How had she managed to arrange for a carriage with the post office? He had always thought she was solely focused on reading and gardening while staying at the estate.
Cain let out a hollow laugh.
“Havel.”
“Yes, Your Grace.”
“If you were to escape the capital, what method would you choose?”
“Um… the easiest and quickest way would likely be to use a rented carriage.”
“Exactly. Generally, one would use a carriage to reach their destination.”
“Yes.”
“But you can’t travel long distances on a postal carriage.”
“Because they belong to the post office.”
Cain nodded.
“First, once you’ve left the estate, you would then need to consider a means of transportation to travel far.”
Havel clasped his hands together. Cain wasn’t seeking his answer; he stepped back to avoid interrupting Cain as he began to deduce, fully displaying the traits of a seasoned knight.
“Typically, one would travel by rented carriage. It’s fast, safe, and convenient. But…”
Cain took out a pen and began marking on the map, gauging the distance from the estate to the post office.
“If she had escaped so simply, she surely wouldn’t have thought I would catch up to her immediately.”
Then where had Agatha gone, and what mode of transport had she taken? Cain fell deep into thought.
His hand, which had been drawing a straight line across the map, suddenly stopped at a certain point.
“There’s Teion Street on the way to the post office.”
“Teion, you say?”
Cain nodded. Teion Street has a station that connects the capital to the provinces. Could it be that Agatha was headed to the station?
Thinking this, Cain shook his head. It would be dangerous for a woman alone to move towards a station. No matter how determined Agatha was to leave his side, she likely wouldn’t have the courage to travel alone on a train.
Then where could she have gone? The possibilities were endless. She might not have needed to flee far at all. She could have hidden in nearby dwellings.
First, he needed to find that maid who had suddenly quit her job.
Through her, he might find some clue. Cain took a deep breath.
“Is that maid still missing?”
“Are you referring to the maid who always accompanied Madam?”
Cain nodded.
“The head maid has personally gone to find where that maid is staying, so she should be back soon. You don’t need to worry too much…”
Havel’s sentence trailed off as he saw Cain’s grim expression. The anger displayed on his face was substantial, not merely a reaction to Agatha’s absence.

After Cain entered the study with Havel, Teschen dashed straight out of the estate.
As the head maid of the Vernat household, she was expected to uphold a certain dignity and decorum, but at that moment, she couldn’t concern herself with such things.
When Liana had said she would quit her job as a maid, Teschen had asked where she intended to work next. However, it had been a mere formality, and she couldn’t even remember what the girl had replied. She wished she had paid more attention.
She never expected that such a situation would arise, prompting the Marquis to command someone to find that maid.
“This is insane.”
Since she had warned that anyone who got too close to Liana, Agatha’s personal maid, would face consequences, no one in the estate knew where she had gone.
Teschen wondered if perhaps Lindsay, who served alongside Liana, might know her whereabouts, but it seemed they weren’t particularly close, as Lindsay had no information either.
After thoroughly searching the entire bedroom where Liana had stayed, Teschen finally discovered where she had gone after leaving the estate. As if to provide a hint to the anxious Teschen, an unfamiliar address was written down on a piece of paper only about two finger lengths long.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Teschen tucked the paper into her pocket and threw a shawl over her shoulder as she set out to find Liana.
Though the Marquis had just dispatched her to look for the maid, she needed to ensure Liana was back before his patience wore thin. Cain was a man who would never tolerate two mistakes.
Though he generally distrusted people, he had delegated all administrative authority of the estate to her and Patricio due to the vacancy created when the former head maid, Izelle, had to resign for health reasons.
