Of course, not welcoming the Lady didn’t mean the knights were pleased about the rumors of Cain and Princess Alexandra.
Their primary concern was the solid establishment of the knight’s order, hoping it wouldn’t be influenced by marital alliances like the Commander’s. After all, earning recognition through one’s own strength was the most honorable praise for a knight.
“Just imagine, I was worried she might cry and cling to the Commander’s sleeves,” Lehman added.
Known for his staunch principles, his thoughts were solely focused on the well-being of the knight order and Cain, naturally making him less inclined to view Lady Kristin favorably.
“Women are such beings, displaying their emotions without shame and causing trouble for those around them.”
Lehman shook his head, thinking of the numerous noblewomen who had tried to seduce Cain Vernat.
“But still, her insistence on prioritizing the situation does seem to set her apart from ordinary women, given her Kristin lineage,” Craig noted, to which a couple of knights nodded.
Perhaps there was a hint of gratitude towards the Lady who readily gave up what could have been the happiest moment of her life as a woman.
Regardless, they needed to return to the northern front quickly. The knights began reviewing their planned return route.

Agatha’s words about not needing to stay in the capital until the wedding were sincere. Cain, who was initially worried about her feelings, quickly understood her intentions and expedited matters.
They moved the schedule up by three days and decided to hold a simple betrothal ceremony instead of a grand wedding.
Contacting the temple, they arranged for the earliest available bishop, and it only took a day to prepare for departure. Agatha was impressed by Cain’s efficient handling of the situation.
“You look truly, truly beautiful, Miss.”
Two days swiftly passed, and the day of the betrothal ceremony arrived. It was also the day Cain would return to the northern front.
It was a moment of blessing and joy as the master of the mansion welcomed his family, yet also a time to bid farewell to the departing master. The servants of the Marquis’ residence were torn between happiness and sadness.
Nonetheless, with the betrothal ceremony with the future Marchioness at hand, they focused on the preparations. Early in the morning, Izelle, accompanied by maids, helped Agatha get ready.
The dress prepared by Madame de Borre who was notified in advance, had arrived just in time. True to Madame de Borre’s reputation, the dress was dazzlingly beautiful.
“You are the most beautiful lady I have ever seen,” Izelle said, smiling at Liana’s comment.
It wasn’t just flattery.
When Agatha first appeared at the Marquis’s residence, she seemed so plainly dressed that one might wonder if she really was a noble lady. But now, she was undeniably an elegant highborn lady.
Liana beamed, her smile wide enough to reveal all her teeth.
“Truly, I have never seen such a beautiful bride.”
Two maids busily combed through Agatha’s luxurious golden hair. They braided it down to enhance its texture and interspersed it with fresh flowers, which complemented the white dress and created a splendid appearance.
A maid holding a jewelry box couldn’t help but exclaim in admiration at Agatha’s stunning beauty.
It was bittersweet that such adornment, typical for noblewomen on any ordinary day, was being done for the first time for her wedding.
Yet, Liana was grateful that everything was finally falling into place. With a mix of joy and emotion, she finished the final touches of Agatha’s preparation.
“Everything is ready, Madam,” said Izelle, stepping back with her hands neatly folded.
The youngest maid in the Marquis’s residence carefully held up the hem of Agatha’s dress to prevent it from dragging on the floor.
Holding a colorful bouquet in contrast to her white dress, Agatha slowly walked out, followed by a line of maids.
The betrothal ceremony was set to take place in the central garden of the mansion. Although hastily arranged, the preparations were impressive for just two days’ work.
Thanks to the servants diligently following Cain’s instruction to spare no expense, the Marquis’s residence shone more splendidly than ever. The path from the main building to the garden was decorated with flowers and gold for a warm welcome for the mansion’s new mistress.
Following Agatha along the flower-strewn path, Liana felt as if she was receiving a blessing herself. Although there were no nobles to offer congratulations or the Imperial Family members to bestow blessings, both Cain and Agatha seemed unconcerned about such formalities.
Liana couldn’t understand how they could simplify such an important life event as their wedding, even though he had to go out under the Emperor’s orders. But she was somewhat reassured by Cain’s promise to hold a grand ceremony after they return from the war’s end.
