I’m the Only One Who Can Guide the Tyrant to Sleep - Chapter 13
***
The next day, despite my mother’s worried protests about taking some rest, I headed straight to the palace.
There were things I needed to confirm with Caesar.
Luckily, today was the day of Caesar’s swordsmanship training. I easily persuaded Floria to go to the training ground, even though it was earlier than usual.
Despite the early hour, Caesar was already in the middle of his training. I thought he might want to talk to me after what happened yesterday, so it seemed likely.
As expected, my prediction was correct. After his training session, one of the knights by Caesar’s side approached me.
“Are you Lady Evelyn Chester?”
In response to his murmured question, I nodded silently. The knight handed me a small note.
「Same time, same place.」
‘In other words, we’ll meet in front of the flower bed in the evening.’
It was a concise content that only Caesar and I could understand.
But when I arrived at the garden at the designated time, there was no one there.
‘Huh?’
I wondered if I had misunderstood something. I felt quite bewildered. However, in the darkness, I heard a faint voice.
“This way.”
Caesar was hiding in the dense grove of trees right next to the garden.
The thick foliage didn’t even allow moonlight to penetrate, so we barely met in this pitch-black darkness.
“Your Highness, the Crown Prince, I am honored to meet you…”
“That’s not necessary.”
Caesar, who spoke firmly, gave me a piercing look.
“More importantly, about yesterday.”
“……”
I bit my lip and hesitated. I couldn’t just say, ‘I found out that we’re going to die.’ But that didn’t mean I wanted to hide everything from Caesar either.
‘Anyway, with the matter of awakening, I’ll need Caesar’s help.’
“Do you know something? About my symptoms?”
“…Yes, I do.”
“What kind of illness is it? Is there a way to cure it?”
Caesar asked urgently.
“It’s… not an illness.”
“…Then, is it a curse after all?”
“It’s not a curse either. It’s, it’s a rampage.”
I simply revealed what I knew.
“A rampage?”
“It’s, well… Your Highness, you have a certain potential. An extraordinary ability.”
“What do you mean, ability… Magic?”
Caesar looked puzzled.
“No, it’s not magic, but you could consider it similar.”
“It’s not magic but similar? How do I put this…”
In this world, there has never been an awakened individual. So, naturally, no one knew anything about the abilities of an awakened.
Caesar suddenly gave me a suspicious look. To gain his trust, I needed to reveal the information I knew.
“Your Highness, it must hurt a lot, doesn’t it?”
“What?”
“It feels like your chest is tearing apart, like flames are burning inside you. It feels like it’s welling up, and if you could, you’d tear your body into a thousand pieces.”
“You…”
Caesar’s eyes widened.
“How did you…”
Naturally, I could describe it. It was the pain the male protagonist felt when he went on a rampage in the original story.
“The reason you’re in so much pain, Your Highness, is that you haven’t awakened.”
“Awakened?”
“Yes, the ability I mentioned earlier, it’s because it can’t come out of Your Highness’s body.”
Caesar furrowed his brow, as if not fully comprehending.
“So, you mean I have an ability inside me, and the pain is because I can’t awaken it? And if I awaken, the pain will stop?”
“That’s right. And when you awaken, you’ll also be able to use extraordinary abilities.”
Caesar pondered for a moment and asked,
“But how on earth do you know about this?”
“Well…”
I hesitated.
“I’ll tell you later. Right now, even I don’t fully understand it… Anyway, what’s important now is not that. We need to end that suffering as soon as possible.”
“And if we don’t end it?”
“Pardon?”
Caesar’s expression clouded over.
“What happens if the pain doesn’t end?”
Death.
If Caesar doesn’t awaken, he will die, just like in the original story. However, I couldn’t bring myself to say that to this young child.
“I don’t know about that. But it’s better not to be in pain, right? Isn’t it?”
I shamelessly lied. Despite the lingering suspicion in his eyes, Caesar eventually nodded.
“Okay, so do you know how to awaken?”
“Yes, I do.”
Since the dream last night, I could remember the original story in detail.
A rampage occurs because the body can’t handle the power. It was like water constantly pouring into a small container, causing it to overflow. The excruciating pain felt as if the whole body was being torn apart.
Awakening, in simple terms, was the act of controlling the amount of that water. There were two methods to awaken: creating an Awakening agent and finding a suitable Guide.
With no awakened individuals at present, there couldn’t possibly be any Awakening agents. So, the practical method was one.
The method I had been thinking about since waking up from the dream. The only way for us to survive and make Caesar the Emperor.
I looked directly into Caesar’s eyes and said,
“A Guide. Your Highness needs to find a Guide.”
“A Guide? What’s that?”
“A Guide is a person. Contacting that person can help prevent the rampage.”
“…I don’t quite understand.”
“In short, there is someone like destiny who will help Your Highness. You need to find that person.”
