I’m the Only One Who Can Guide the Tyrant to Sleep - Chapter 3
“Evelyn! Come quickly!”
A small girl in a white dress smiled brightly and gestured to me.
Her light grayish-blue hair cascaded down to her waist.
“Your Imperial Highness.”
The imperial princess, Floria, dashed towards a flowerbed in a corner of the garden.
“If you run that fast, you’ll fall.”
“Look at this, my hair color is just like this flower!”
Floria sat down and gazed at the flowers.
“Your Highness, you’ll get dirt on your dress.”
“Gosh. That’s not important! Look at this flower.”
Floria puffed up her cheeks.
I crouched down next to her, also gazing at the flower. She was right. Sky-blue flowers with hints of gray were in full bloom.
“Is it really? It’s the same color as your hair, Your Highness.”
“Isn’t it fascinating? Can I pick it?”
“Well… let’s see.”
I looked around. We were in the garden behind the palace.
To be precise, this isn’t Floria’s estate… but, well, strictly speaking, the palace belongs to the imperial family.
Picking a few flowers shouldn’t be a big problem.
“Do you want to keep it in your room?”
“Yes! I want to keep it by my side and look at it!”
“But if you pick it, it might wither quickly. Are you okay with that?”
“Why would it wither?”
Her gray eyes locked onto mine.
How do I explain this? Floria had just turned seven.
There was a separate governess, and I was just a humble handmaid. I had no obligation to impart knowledge to her.
“Wouldn’t Your Highness feel lonely if you were in the palace without going out and with neither your father nor your mother?”
“Isn’t Evelyn here?”
“Yes, I’m here too.”
“Then I won’t be lonely.”
“Flowers are the same. There are lots of friends and family here. If Your Highness goes into your room alone, you might feel lonely.”
“And they wither because they’re lonely?”
“Yes.”
“I see…”
Floria placed her hands on her knees and stared at the flowers contemplatively. After thinking for a while, she spoke with determination.
“In that case, I won’t take it with me.”
She was so cute and kind.
“Instead, I’ll just look at it every time we go for a walk.”
“Okay!”
She jumped up.
“I’ve seen everything today!”
“Already?”
That was unusual. Once Floria became fixated on something, it was hard for her to change her mind.
“We’re going to see the dresses!”
‘Oh, I see, that’s why.’
Far in the distance, handmaids were carrying jewelry and dresses as they headed to the princess’s palace.
“Hurry, Evelyn!”
“Don’t run, you might trip.”
I followed Floria with small steps.
It was a perfectly convincing handmaid’s appearance, to the extent that no one would notice that I had possessed this body.
I was a transmigrator. It was a shameless plot twist. One day, I died and woke up here.
At first, I thought it was a dream, then I thought I had gone insane. But even after a year, there was no way back to my original world.
I had to admit it. I truly died and came here.
I accepted this fact, and not long after, Evelyn’s memories slowly started to come to me. Thanks to that, I could adapt smoothly to this world.
I was Lady Evelyn, the daughter of a baron, and a handmaid in the palace.
Perhaps it was because I liked children in my previous life, but being a handmaid was a perfect fit for my disposition.
Taking care of Floria felt more like playing than work, especially.
Unlike the other handmaids who felt uncomfortable around me, Floria gradually opened her heart to me. Now, we were as comfortable with each other as close friends.
“Evelyn!”
Floria, returning to the princess’s palace, beamed brightly while holding up her emerald dress.
“How does it look? How does it look?”
“You look absolutely lovely.”
I smiled back at her.
It wasn’t such a difficult life. In fact, compared to my previous life, it felt more like a blessed one.
The viscount’s family was harmonious, and financially well-off. Being a palace maid was quite a respectable profession. The princess I served, Floria, was cute and kind-hearted.
“This dress would suit Evelyn perfectly too!”
Floria dragged me in front of the mirror and held the dress up to my body.
“But it’s for Your Highness, how can I wear it?”
“Evelyn, you’re a bit smaller, so it should fit perfectly!”
“That’s not what I meant…”
“But look, the color of Evelyn’s eyes matches exactly. Since I found a flower in the same color as my hair earlier, this dress must be for Evelyn!”
Indeed, the dress in front of me somewhat resembled the color of my eyes. My eyes were also a shade of green with a hint of pale gray mixed in, so the color matched.
“Evelyn needs a more dazzling dress. Your pretty face deserves it!”
Deserves a pretty face… I stared at myself in the mirror intently. The silver hair, almost white, flowed down from my shoulders.
The round, emerald eyes sparkled with a variety of colors when viewed up close. Below them, a petite nose and lips were visible.
Despite being sixteen, I was a bit petite, but it wasn’t too noticeable.
It might sound awkward coming from me, but I had quite a cute appearance.
“How does it look, does it suit me well?”
“But it’s too small.”
“Huuh?”
“Even if I’m small, I shouldn’t be wearing Her Highness’s clothes.”
I said teasingly, and Floria pouted her cheeks.
Telling me to wait, she disappeared back into the pile of dresses. She seemed determined to find a dress that would fit me.
“Even so, I can’t take anything from the palace.”
If I said I couldn’t have it, she’d probably throw a fit.
I sighed deeply as I looked at myself in the mirror. The problem wasn’t the dress. I had grown accustomed to the familiar face.
Yes, the problem was elsewhere.
The problem was that I still had no idea which novel I had transmigrated into.
‘It’s been almost a year already!’
Reading web novels had been my only hobby in my previous life. Since the world I was living in now resembled the worlds I had read about, I was certain I had transmigrated.
However, knowing where I was exactly was not easy. The worlds in the novels I read were all similar, and I had read more than just one or two novels.
