I’m the Only One Who Can Guide the Tyrant to Sleep - Chapter 4
“I’ve never seen a servant turn into the main character, so maybe I’m just a supporting character.”
I had met various characters, but none of them seemed to be the protagonist, the secondary female lead, or even the villainess.
“Maybe I should just live quietly here.”
Various thoughts crossed my mind.
‘And why does the supporting character have to be so pretty for no reason?’
I couldn’t shake the feeling of unease. In the novels I read, maids were mostly ordinary-looking people who blended in seamlessly.
Brown hair with freckles like Bell, Mary, Anna…
But here I was, with silver hair and emerald green eyes.
“There’s definitely something going on.”
“What’s going on?”
In the meantime, Floria emerged from the pile of clothes and suddenly thrust her face towards me.
“You surprised me, Your Highness!”
“Ta-da!”
She pinned a large, luxurious ribbon on my head.
“Even if the dress doesn’t fit, this should work, right?”
Her smiling face was incredibly adorable.
“You’re quite something, Your Highness.”
Her actions didn’t bother me, and I couldn’t help but laugh.
“Yeah, that’s right. Evelyn is still Evelyn, after all. There’s no rule that says maids must have brown hair.”
If I couldn’t figure out exactly where I was, I could just live an ordinary life.
As an extra from somewhere in a novel, I’d be thin and tall, as always.
* * *
I left the princess’s palace and strolled through the garden.
I was on my way home, having just managed to separate Floria, who was whining not to go with me.
The maids could choose whether to commute or stay in the palace. Most of them were nobles, so the palace dormitories were well-equipped, and since their homes were usually far away, they typically spent their time in the palace.
But my home was close to the palace, and I was still young, so I chose to commute. In this world, I was only sixteen years old, and my family would worry about me.
As I continued to walk, I spotted the flowerbed where Floria and I had sat together just a few hours ago.
“It had gray mixed in with the blue flowers. I’ve never seen this color before. I wonder what it’s called.”
She’ll probably invite me to the garden again tomorrow, but maybe I should suggest cutting it instead.
It felt like I was trying too hard to be good. When did I start caring about plants?
With these thoughts in mind, I approached the flowerbed a bit closer.
“Hmm?”
There was a young boy sitting in the flowerbed. It was exactly where we had been sitting.
He was looking at the same flowers. The ones with gray mixed in with the blue.
‘Dressed so elegantly, yet covered in dirt.’
In true palace maid fashion, I looked at the dirt-stained hem of the boy’s clothes with a pitiful expression. Despite being made from luxurious fabric, they didn’t seem well-maintained.
Who could he be?
I realized that it was quite late in the evening.
‘At this time, the boy can’t be in the palace…’
“Your Highness the Crown Prince!”
I turned my head in surprise. In the distance, a handmaid was hurrying towards us.
‘Crown Prince?’
I gazed intently at the boy. He couldn’t be more than fifteen. Yet, signs of becoming a handsome young man were already visible.
His hair, shining with a soft glow, seemed to shimmer like moonlight. His skin was flawless, without a speck of dust, and his high-bridged nose was sharply defined.
‘Is it common for handsome guys to be like this from the start? He should go through puberty well…’
I was entertaining unnecessary thoughts when the boy suddenly lifted his head, and our eyes met.
I should have looked away. I should have avoided his gaze as if nothing had happened, attributing it to chance.
But, as if compelled by some strange force, my gaze couldn’t detach from his.
He didn’t look away either.
A peculiar feeling washed over me. Despite the considerable distance between us, it felt as if we were in an extremely small space together. It seemed like it was just the boy and me.
‘Why is that?’
“Your Highness!”
In an instant, I snapped back to reality at the sound of the handmaid’s voice.
The handmaid who had come closer grabbed the boy’s wrist and helped him up from the ground. The boy couldn’t resist the forceful grip, and he was dragged away.
“Why on earth did you come here?”
Her tone was excessively impudent to be speaking to a prince. My expression involuntarily soured.
While being pulled away, the boy glanced back at me. Our eyes met again.
“Hurry up! Can’t you walk properly?”
With a rough gesture, he was pulled forward, causing him to stumble briefly.
They disappeared into the darkness in an instant. I stood there, forgetting that I needed to return home.
My heart raced with anticipation. The strange atmosphere I had just experienced, the incredibly handsome face, and the fact that he was a prince… it all added up.
“I have a feeling. I’m sure of it.”
A person like him couldn’t be just a minor character. No, at the very least, he would become a supporting character, if not the antagonist.
“Yeah, a character like that can’t be a background extra.”
It had been a year since I was reborn.
Finally, it felt like the original story was about to begin.
