Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 102
Luciel watched the group rushing by and smiled.
“I like people who are in a hurry.”
When people are rushed, they become anxious, and anxiety leads to mistakes.
Whether those mistakes are small or large, Luciel was confident he could use them to his advantage.
“They say he’s the bravest among kings.”
In other words, he’s the most foolish among kings.
It wasn’t that he was unintelligent. It was just that growing up in an environment with so much made it hard for him to understand the misfortunes of others.
Although he had faced a few crises, his status as a king always made it easy to resolve them.
“That’s why it’s even better.”
Luciel made his plans. He would meet the other king somewhere around here and persuade him to join forces.
What he wanted and what Shah-Naz wanted were not entirely the same, but they did align in some ways.
He wanted the Saintess to lose her power, and Shah-Naz likely wanted something similar.
“Indeed, you shouldn’t have held grudges.”
Well, it’s because of people like him that the world turns as it does.
Luciel spun around in place and then set off.
Thud!
As Shah-Naz was rushing forward, he encountered an obstacle. A large tree had fallen right in the middle of the otherwise clear road.
It might seem like a childish trick, but it was quite effective. There’s a reason so many people use trees to block the road.
“Who’s there!”
Shah-Naz dismounted and grabbed his weapon.
“Hello there.”
A man with red hair appeared before Shah-Naz.
“What is this trickery?”
“Trickery? I simply arranged for a moment to speak with someone as esteemed as yourself.”
“If that’s all, you could have just approached and spoken.”
“Would you have listened?”
Most likely not. Shah-Naz was busy enough with just traveling.
“Don’t worry. If you spare a moment for a conversation, the tree will be cleared quickly.”
“I can clear it myself.”
“If you make a mistake, it could cause a forest fire. You wouldn’t want to burn down this area, would you?”
The man’s sudden appearance was not wrong.
The previous king of the South had exceptional control over fire, but the current king did not. He was powerful but lacked control.
“Fine, I’ll listen. But don’t try any funny business, or I’ll snap your neck.”
“Hahaha, it’s not something you’d dislike, Lord Shah-Naz.”
The man, Luciel, smiled as he began to speak.
“It’s about the Saintess.”
First, Luciel lied about his identity. If he mentioned anything about being a heretic, he would either be sliced up or burned.
“We were followers of Lord Garan.”
“Somehow, you remind me of that snake-like fellow.”
“I’ll take that as a compliment.”
Luciel spoke, explaining everything.
Garan’s disappearance, the change of king due to the Saintess’s will, the remaining followers’ struggles with their helplessness.
And the doubts that arose in such a situation.
“The Saintess and the king are necessary for the world, yet she replaced the king because she didn’t want him. Moreover, I heard his reputation wasn’t good.”
“That’s right.”
“Isn’t it dangerous for such a person to remain in the position of Saintess? But killing the Saintess would affect the world.”
“That’s true.”
“So, what if we carefully relocate her to a safe place?”
It was as if Luciel had read Shah-Naz’s mind.
“What do you think? We secretly left the Eastern country, so no one knows our whereabouts. We can be a hidden force for you.”
“It’s an appealing story. But how can I trust you?”
“You don’t have to trust us. If you’re suspicious, assign a watcher to us. We will prove ourselves.”
Luciel used his persuasive tongue to convince Shah-Naz.
* * *
“I feel uneasy.”
Irene, looking out the window, frowned.
“Really? That’s a big deal.”
“Why?”
“Sir Allen told me that you might be able to foresee the future. He said we shouldn’t ignore even small feelings of unease.”
“I’m not so sure about that.”
“Even so, I’ll inform Sir Allen just in case.”
It seemed like excessive worry, but Irene didn’t stop Lani.
After all, they had to be cautious in all directions, and one more thing wouldn’t make much difference.
“Alright, do as you wish.”
“Yes, I’ll go tell him right away.”
As soon as the carriage stopped, Lani approached Allen to relay the information. Watching them, Irene rested her chin on her hand and looked in the other direction.
The southern country was not far away.
