Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 106
Word had spread far and wide that the person with the ominous symbol was the Saintess, and while people knew, facing her in person was different.
Even those who knew would often clasp their hands in prayer or keep their distance when speaking with Irene. This was especially true for slightly older children, who saw someone with an ominous symbol as akin to a monster under the bed.
But this child showed no such fear.
‘It’s just a child.’
Even knowing that, a chilling feeling brushed through her chest. At the same time, the small child grew rapidly, climbing up the balcony and stepping inside.
“You’re quick to notice, aren’t you?”
A whisper brushed her ear, and her mind grew hazy. Her stomach churned, and she felt the urge to vomit.
This was not an ordinary person. It was something far more dreadful. A frantic voice from the goddess rang out.
[Irene!]
Hearing the voice brought back a bit of clarity.
She mustered her strength to unleash her divine power, but the man did not let go, even as his hands burned.
The door burst open, and the holy knights rushed in.
“You’re too late, holy knights.”
The man winked with one eye, then scooped Irene up and jumped out.
She tried to pull his hair to escape, but he didn’t budge.
And so, Irene was kidnapped.
* * *
Burt looked at Shah-Naz with a cold expression. After rubbing his temples a few times, he finally spoke.
“The Saintess has been kidnapped.”
It didn’t take long to send a maid to fetch Lani from the palace. Moreover, wasn’t there a holy knight guarding the door of the resting room?
“How did you lose her?”
Ignoring Shah-Naz, Burt directed his question to the holy knight.
“Lord Shah-Naz came to see the Saintess. While they were talking, we sensed divine power from inside and rushed in.”
“And then?”
“We moved as quickly as we could, but it was already too late.”
“Did you see the attacker?”
“Yes, we did.”
The holy knight described the person in detail: a man with long red hair dressed in white. His face was rather handsome but had a sharp impression.
Burt knew a bit about the person.
There are two types of heretics: those who travel around spreading their beliefs, and those who frequently cause trouble and harm priests.
The person the holy knight described belonged to the latter group. He was also the leader of those who attacked the pilgrimage party after it left the first village.
‘His name was Luciel, wasn’t it?’
He was known for being talkative, so it wasn’t hard to find out his name.
“Why would someone like that be here?”
Burt suspected Shah-Naz.
“Are you suspecting me?”
“You were the one who kept the holy knight occupied at the right moment.”
“It wasn’t me!”
Shah-Naz, agitated, waved his hand dismissively.
“Why would I hand the Saintess over to a heretic? I know very well what would happen to this world if the Saintess were to die.”
“What if you did it unknowingly?”
“Unknowingly?”
“I’m saying you might have handed her over without knowing he was a heretic.”
“I am not that foolish.”
Not foolish? Burt knew Shah-Naz was the most foolish among the kings.
“First, inform Sir Allen. And Sir Sizu.”
Sizu was one of Burt’s closest confidants.
“Yes!”
“Gather the knights.”
As soon as Burt gave the command, Sizu immediately ran out, followed by the holy knights.
Under normal circumstances, running in the palace would be considered rude, but this was no ordinary situation.
“Heavens, those mad heretics won’t harm the Saintess, will they?”
Lani asked with a fearful expression.
“Irene.”
Noah, who appeared late, also looked distraught.
“They won’t kill her immediately.”
Luciel was a villain who loved to talk. People like him don’t kill hostages right away.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes. Heretics tend to instill fear first and then kill their victims gruesomely in front of others.”
“That’s awful.”
Lani was on the verge of tears.
On the other hand, Noah clenched his fists in anger, likely thinking that if he were stronger, he could have been of help.
Leaving the trembling Lani behind, Burt immediately headed to the balcony.
It was time to begin the pursuit.
