Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 109
Luciel rechecked the means to transport Irene. The carriage loaded with goods approved by the king—this was their means of transport.
Some might think it too simple a method, but Luciel was confident they wouldn’t get caught. They had brought a relic of their deity, capable of concealing the presence of the Saintess.
The move was scheduled for the afternoon, the busiest time at the gates.
After ensuring everything was in place, Luciel turned back. All that was left was to silently extract the Saintess.
No one would suspect she was in the palace’s underground prison; hence, the search was focused on the wrong areas.
Walking confidently, Luciel minimized his presence near the underground prison.
“Now, Saintess, let’s move.”
Though he wanted to instill more fear in her, time was pressing.
He rendered the glaring Saintess unconscious again and left the underground prison with Diana.
The Saintess would soon be inside a box, ready to leave this place.

Irene regained consciousness not long after.
When she awoke, it was dark and cramped around her. It was so cramped that she could hardly move her body.
‘It seems I’ve been confined somewhere.’
It felt like she was inside a box. She tried pushing the top with all her strength, but it wouldn’t budge. It seemed securely locked.
‘What happened to Diana?’
As she pondered, someone knocked on the wall of her confined space.
“Are you okay?”
It was Diana’s voice. As long as the child was safe, that was all that mattered.
Irene relaxed. Normally, she would be desperately struggling to escape. But the thought of the others who were captured weighed on her.
Even though she was weak and the only thing she could use was her divine power, she wanted to help them.
“Where are we?”
She asked quietly, and Diana answered.
“We’re inside a carriage. We’ll be passing through the gates soon.”
Then there was a moment of hesitation in Diana’s voice.
“Should I shout? Then you could escape, Saintess.”
“What about you?”
“I’ll manage somehow. They won’t kill me.”
How could she be so sure of that?
Irene shook her head, then remembered Diana couldn’t see her and spoke again.
“No. What if something happens to you?”
“I’ll be fine.”
Her voice sounded sad.
“I’ve always been a burden to my sister. Maybe it’s better if I disappear now.”
“No, that’s not true.”
As they spoke, a sliver of light suddenly shone through the cracks.
“We will have a brief inspection.”
After those words, someone climbed onto the carriage. It wasn’t long before they spoke.
“Well, there’s nothing unusual here.”
Nothing unusual! Did they even inspect properly?
It was absurd. Even though Irene had planned to be transported quietly, this level of negligence was shocking.
The inspector must have been bribed. Otherwise, such a lax inspection wouldn’t have happened.
“Isn’t this inspection too sloppy?”
At that moment, a familiar voice was heard.
‘Burt!’
“Sorry, but this carriage delivers to the royal family, and nothing seemed suspicious.”
“Just because it’s for the royal family doesn’t mean there can’t be anything suspicious. I’ll take a look.”
Footsteps grew closer.
“It’s a child.”
“I’m Diana.”
It was hard to know what was happening outside since the conversation didn’t continue.
‘What should I do?’
Irene wanted to inform Burt of the plan. She knocked on the box she was confined in, and suddenly, the top opened.
“Irene.”
“Burt.”
“Thank goodness. We found you.”
“Wait.”
Irene placed a finger to her lips and looked at Burt.
“What do you mean—”
Burt turned to look at Diana standing next to him. He seemed to guess the situation.
“You’re pushing it.”
Despite his words, Burt handed Irene a small piece of jewelry.
“Don’t lose this.”
Then the lid of the box closed.
It was fortunate that Burt was the one who found her. If it had been Allen or anyone else, they would have rescued her without hesitation.
Irene let out a sigh of relief.
Burt placed an identical piece of jewelry, an earring, on his earlobe. This would serve as a tracking device until he could reunite with Irene.
‘I should inform Sir Allen about this.’
When dealing with heretics, holy knights were the most effective. Thus, some level of information needed to be shared beforehand.
“What did you just say?”
“I said I have a way to track Irene.”
“If you had such a thing, you should have informed us sooner.”
“It takes some time to activate.”
Burt lied smoothly.
