Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 112
The structure exuded an eerie atmosphere.
Most of it had collapsed, but from the scattered debris and remnants, it seemed to have been a temple.
“This was the temple of Lord Mileka. It was destroyed for being heretical, but it was once a place where a god resided.”
For the first time, Luciel became serious. He prayed in front of the ruined shrine before leading them to a nearby cave.
‘How do they even find places like this?’
Unlike Adlen’s village, which appeared after passing through a short cave, this one led to something different.
At the end of the cave, a door revealed a staircase going down. After descending for a long time, they began to see people.
The walls had glowing minerals embedded in them, providing some light, but the overall atmosphere was dark and gloomy.
“Now, please rest for a while.”
Luciel ushered Irene and Diana into a cell.
“This is our home.”
Diana pulled Irene by the hand. Following her, Irene noticed that the cell was quite spacious inside.
There were a few houses, and some people emerged from them.
“Diana!”
A boy slightly taller than Diana ran up and hugged her.
“Are you okay? Why did they take you?”
Diana silenced his barrage of questions by covering his mouth.
“I’m fine, Han. But we have someone new here.”
“I saw. She looks like one of us. Did they bring her from another village? How many hostages do they need to feel secure?”
Han grumbled as he spoke.
“It’s not like that. She’s the Saintess.”
“What?”
The few people gathered around showed expressions of curiosity.
“That’s an ominous symbol.”
And not just one, but two.
“Still, she’s a Saintess. Luciel said so.”
“That lunatic said that?”
Finally, the expressions of the people began to change. Some even showed signs of hope.
“Can you use holy power?”
“A little. Right now, I can’t use much because of this.”
Irene showed the bracelet on her wrist. She could break it if she wanted, but doing so would arouse Luciel’s suspicion.
“A little is enough! Please, help heal the injured.”
Han asked Irene. Unable to refuse, she nodded, and they immediately moved to another location.
Inside a small, shabby building, there was a man groaning in pain.
“He’s our leader.”
“Han, Charles said he doesn’t like being called the leader.”
“Then what should we call him?”
“Just use his name.”
“Anyway, he got injured helping those people not long ago.”
“Where is he hurt?”
Irene asked, and Han lifted the blanket covering him.
“His back. We managed to cover it with some bandages, but it’s hard to get medicine here.”
“Grandmother said he might die if left like this.”
On inspection, it looked like his back had been stabbed with something sharp.
Irene placed her hands on his back and used her holy power. Despite the bracelet limiting her power, it was enough.
Watching the wound heal in real-time, both children’s jaws dropped. The few people who had followed them in were no different.
When the healing was complete, only a faint red mark remained. Moreover, Charles’s breathing became much more relaxed.
“Thank you!”
Han bowed deeply to Irene.
“You’re welcome.”
Using holy power with the bracelet on made her head spin.
“May I rest for a bit?”
“Y-Yes! I’ll take you to a place where you can rest. There’s an empty bed.”
Han led Irene out of the house and to another location.
“Please, rest here.”
His attitude had become much more respectful after she treated Charles.
Once Han left, Irene collapsed onto the bed. She examined her leg again.
Her ankle was sprained, but it didn’t seem like there was any bone damage. She didn’t know much about such things, but she had learned a bit from High Priest Grein while traveling to various villages.
“For effective treatment, a priest needs to know what a healer knows.”
That was true.
“I need to pop these blisters too.”
In the current situation, it was hard to treat them properly. Moreover, she was so exhausted that her eyes kept closing.
Irene decided to think about it after getting some rest.
* * *
While Irene slept, Luciel was reporting the kidnapping of the Saintess to the other leaders.
“Excellent! Bringing the Saintess here means our plan is as good as successful!”
“Indeed. Luciel deserves a reward for this.”
“How about promoting him to a higher position? Considering his loyalty, it’s about time.”
“That sounds reasonable.”
The leaders discussed among themselves, continually praising Luciel.
“So, how should we deal with the Saintess?”
“It would be best to execute her publicly at the central square. But for that, we need to keep her alive for now.”
“We should think about the method as well.”
“Oh, Mileka, it is all thanks to your grace.”
They casually discussed the execution of a person as if it were nothing.
Being accustomed to such matters, they felt no discomfort. It was no wonder people called them heretics.
