Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 118
“Lady Irene!”
Burt urgently called out Irene’s name. But there was no response from Irene, who had collapsed on the spot.
“Damn it!”
Cursing for the first time in his life, Burt quickly lifted Irene and ran towards the area where the battle was raging.
“Sir Allen!”
He shouted, and miraculously, Allen turned towards him, recognizing the call.
Allen was facing two figures who seemed to be leaders of the heretics, but he did not miss Burt’s cry.
“Capture the leaders! Lady Irene has been poisoned!”
If she had been poisoned, there had to be an antidote somewhere. To find out, they needed to capture some of the heretics alive.
Allen quickly understood. As he turned his attention momentarily, he struck down the leader attacking from behind. Then he cut off the arm of the other startled leader.
“Argh!”
Subduing the leader who had lost an arm was not difficult.
The battle did not last as long as expected. It was possible because most of the powerful leaders had fled.
“Is the antidote all you need?”
“She is also cursed.”
“Understood.”
Once the area was somewhat cleared, Allen dragged the leader with the severed arm into an empty room.
The room was not soundproof at all, so the terrible screams leaked outside.
After spending quite some time inside, Allen came out.
“Fortunately, there is an antidote. But the curse must be lifted by the one who cast it.”
“Is the person who cast it not here?”
“They fled.”
Allen replied with a cold expression, looking as if he might rush out to capture the fleeing heretic at any moment.
“We have already sent out a pursuit.”
At that moment, a holy knight came running urgently.
“Sir Allen!”
“Yes, how is the pursuit going?”
“We caught one, but the rest escaped. They used wicked methods, making the pursuit difficult.”
It was bad news.
“Can Lady Irene be moved?”
“No. The terrain is too rough, and moving her incorrectly could be dangerous.”
“Then we will prepare a room here.”
Upon Allen’s orders, the knights quickly found an intact room and placed Irene inside.
“What about the people who were rescued?”
“They should be fine with some rest. Although they were poisoned, Lady Irene has treated them all.”
“As expected of Lady Saintess.”
He placed his sturdy hand on his chest as he made the sign of the cross.
“May the goddess’s blessing be upon us.”
“We need to find out about the curse.”
“Fortunately, High Priest Grein is well-versed in that field. I’ll summon her here.”
“Quickly, please.”
“Don’t worry.”
Within a day of that conversation, Grein was summoned to Irene’s side. Though she was carried swiftly by a holy knight, her aged body found it difficult.
“Oh, ugh.”
Grein groaned, but Allen quickly ignored this, grabbed her arm and quickly pushed her into the room.
It might have seemed rude, but knowing Allen’s fervent dedication, Grein did not complain. Instead, she chose to sit in the chair next to the bed and examine Irene.
“Let’s see.”
Grein raised her sacred power and scanned Irene’s body.
“Luckily, it’s a curse I recognize. It’s a mental curse, causing the victim to repeatedly relive traumatic past experiences in their dreams, gradually destroying their mind.”
“So, what should we do?”
“If we have some time, we can leave a few priests to pour sacred power into her. She should wake up within a week.”
“And if time is urgent?”
“There is a method of entering the consciousness of the cursed person directly. However, it’s rarely used because if one who enters can’t escape, both could be in danger.”
“In that case, I will—”
“I will go in.”
Allen and Burt spoke simultaneously.
Allen’s fanaticism was understandable, but why was the King of the North so involved in the saint’s matters? Grein wondered.
“Both of you seem qualified, but only one can go in. Please decide who it will be.”
“Sir Allen, I will go in.”
“No. I failed in my duties as a holy knight. I must save Lady Irene at any cost.”
“I understand your feelings, Sir Allen. But consider, who knows Lady Irene better?”
“Yes, it’s better for the person who knows her best to go in.”
Grein added. Hearing this, Allen clenched his fist.
“I should have attended to Lady Irene more sincerely. I neglected my duty. This is gravely all my fault.”
“No, Sir Allen. If you have neglected your duty, then I am also to blame.”
Grein tried to console Allen. In the end, Burt was chosen to enter Irene’s consciousness.
