Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 190
Milli suddenly realized. Following Burt’s gaze, he saw a woman with black hair and red eyes standing there. Though one might expect her to feel ominous, she didn’t.
‘She feels warm and comforting.’
Milli wondered if all saintesses gave off this kind of feeling.
“Burt.”
As Irene approached with a smile, her steps slowed when she noticed Milli.
“Who is this child?”
“He is my successor.”
At this, Irene, the saintess, bent down to match Milli’s height and greeted him.
“Hello.”
“Hello!”
“You’re very spirited.”
“Yes!”
The conversation with the saintess wasn’t long. Soon, she seemed to grow tired, and Burt, without hesitation, lifted her gently into his arms.
“How long have you been walking?”
“Not long.”
“Irene, you shouldn’t push yourself like others do.”
With those words, Burt looked at Milli.
“Sorry, but can you make your way back on your own?”
“Yes, of course! I’m good at finding my way.”
“Then we’ll end it here for now. After dinner, meet me at the training grounds. I’ll give you the learning opportunity you asked for.”
“Yes!”
Milli watched as Burt and the saintess walked away together.
“That’s love.”
he muttered to himself, nodding in understanding before heading back to his lodging.
When he returned, the nobles who had been unable to follow Burt earlier tried to approach him, but Alfonso intervened.
“It would be best for you to head to your room and rest now.”
Milli agreed with him, thinking,
‘Sorry, Sir Alfonso!’
As Milli made his way to his room, leaving Alfonso surrounded by the nobles, his path was blocked once again.
“Master Milli.”
A voice called out.
It was Luna, dressed in lavish clothing with a beautiful face. Throughout the entire journey, Luna hadn’t paid Milli much attention. She acknowledged his greetings, but that was the extent of it.
For her to approach him now meant she had something on her mind.
Even a beautiful woman was no different from the old nobles in this regard. Milli let out a small sigh without realizing it.
“Is Lord Burt doing well?”
“Yes.”
Milli gave a brief reply.
“Did you, by any chance, see the saintess?”
“Yes.”
Since he had been taught never to lie, Milli answered truthfully.
“What did you think of her?”
“She was kind.”
Luna seemed like she wanted to say more, her lips parting slightly, but the words didn’t come out. After a long pause, she finally spoke again.
“I see.”
Then she turned her back and walked away. Despite being the king’s successor, she treated him so dismissively. It was upsetting.
‘No, I have to stay strong.’
Milli thought, clenching his fists as he remembered Burt.
The saintess was kind. That’s how all saintesses were, born to serve the world with gentleness and warmth. They easily earned people’s affection and love.
He had thought that this saintess, carrying an ominous sign, might be different, but it seemed she was much the same.
‘I don’t like it.’
Since arriving here, Luna had been on edge. She needed to meet the king and convince him, but she hadn’t been able to. Still, it seemed there was some consideration for their group, as a modest party was planned for the visitors from the northern kingdom.
She would get to meet the king at the party, but that was still days away.
“This is so frustrating.”
She muttered to herself. Her maid, following behind, asked,
“Are you feeling unwell?”
“No, it’s not that.”
“Should I ask if you’re allowed to take a walk in the nearby garden?”
“Do you think that would be alright?”
“Of course! We’ve come so far, and this treatment is really unfair. I understand the temple has been through a lot, but we have nothing to do with that.”
Anne, the second daughter of a baron’s family who had been with Luna since childhood, chimed in indignantly. Then, without waiting for an answer, she hurried off to seek permission.
“You’re allowed to stroll in the nearby garden.”
Anne returned triumphantly.
“Come on, a bit of fresh air will make you feel better.”
“Will it, though?”
“Yes!”
Following Anne’s suggestion, Luna walked through the garden near their lodging. In truth, she wanted to go further, to be by the king’s side.
“The king is being cruel,” Anne remarked, watching Luna’s troubled expression.
“He can’t help it. The king has no obligation to do anything for me.”
“But you were almost his fiancée! He should at least care a little.”
“You know that’s not the kind of person he is.”
“That’s true.”
Anne replied, but she couldn’t help but think about how devoted the king was to the saintess.
“I wonder what the saintess is like?”
Luna had only heard stories about her and had never met her in person.
“She’s the one who saved the world.”
After the recent incident with the heretics, the saintess’s reputation had soared even higher. Thanks to her, a disaster had been averted.
“That’s exactly why…”
Luna knew she shouldn’t hate someone like that. She understood, but the bitterness in her heart was hard to suppress, bubbling up as resentment.
“Pardon?” Anne asked, noticing Luna’s distraction.
“It’s nothing. Let’s head back inside.”
“Already?”
“There’s nothing to see in this garden.”
“Really? Alright, then. I’ll prepare some tea once we’re inside.”
“Okay.”
Luna returned to the lodging, her thoughts still heavy as she stepped inside.
