Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 34
It seemed to be that magic, which had faded long ago, and now only a few could use.
“Good evening.”
The shadow greeted Irene.
“I do not accept greetings from strangers.”
Then, the shadow moved forward and stood in front of the window. The faint moonlight revealed the shadow’s form.
Neatly arranged blue hair and emerald-green eyes. At that moment, Irene realized.
‘The King of the East, Garan.’
It was him.
Irene had met him in the past when she was falsely accused of being an assassin for Ramiel.
No, to be precise, she had met all four kings.
While being dragged away by soldiers, meeting the kings felt like encountering a last hope.
After all, they were rumored to be just and fair in all matters, so she thought they might believe in her innocence.
So, when the soldiers halted for a salute, she could beg so desperately.
“P-Please, help me. It’s not me. Why would I harm Lady Ramiel?”
Trembling yet desperately trying to explain.
“How could I possibly get poison?”
But what returned was their cold gaze.
“No need for excuses!”
Shah-naz grabbed Irene by the collar, angrily lashing out.
The sight of the large man lunging at her was so terrifying that she felt like bursting into tears. However, she feared that if she did, she might not be able to make a sound ever again, so she desperately held it in.
Yet, Irene at that time did not realize all her hopes were in vain.
The kindly reputed King of the West, Sage, was frowning, and the coldly reputed King Garan was already looking down on Irene like trash, clicking his tongue.
There was not a single ally for her here.
Then, the King of the North appeared. It seemed he happened upon them while passing by due to some matter.
“What’s happening here?”
“What does it look like? We’re apprehending a criminal.”
At Shah-naz’s words, Burt’s gaze shifted to Irene. His look was dreadfully indifferent, but at least it held no disgust, which gave her a faint hope.
“Nothing has been decided yet.”
His following words inflated her hopes.
“Nothing decided? Sometimes, you can tell even without a decision!”
“Stop and return her to her original place.”
His low and cold voice felt like a lifeline to the current Irene.
“We’re just going to detain her.”
Until Sage intervened.
“Isn’t she a prime suspect? We will detain her only until things are clearer. You wouldn’t say that’s unreasonable, would you?”
“Did the other kings agree as well?”
“They agreed.”
“Agreed.”
With those words, Burt stepped back, indicating he would not interfere further.
Seeing this, Irene desperately reached out her hand, but it didn’t reach him. And he didn’t look back either.
Eventually, Irene was dragged to the Tower of Death.
Bystanders were just the same as the perpetrators to Irene. It wasn’t a matter of opening her heart just because they treated her slightly well.
They were all equally repulsive.
Garan, who had been silent, slowly opened his mouth.
“May I greet you now?”
“Do as you wish.”
“Let me introduce myself again. I am Garan, the King of the East.”
The person who once looked at her with contempt was now greeting her with a gentle face.
It made her feel like she was going to vomit. However, now was not the time to express her disgust, so she forcefully suppressed it.
“What brings you here?”
“Is it not natural for a king to seek out the saint?”
“At this late hour?”
Looking outside the window, the pitch darkness obscured her vision. Even the stars that were barely visible were now completely hidden by clouds, with not a speck of light to be seen.
“Sometimes, even in the late night, there comes a time when we must meet. Especially when interruptions are frequent.”
“Even so, it is rude to visit at this hour.”
“It is urgent. Could you possibly forgive me?”
His seemingly troubled demeanor was utterly foreign to her. He was always cold and dismissive, and seeing him bow like this was not merely amusing but rather chilling.
Without realizing it, she wrapped her arms around herself, and Garan asked with a worried look.
“Are you still in much pain?”
“It’s none of your concern. Just state your business.”
“Just my business?”
“Yes.”
“I see. It’s probably better to discuss my business first then.”
His emerald-green eyes gleamed coldly like a serpent’s.
