Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 64
He also knew this was an opportunity. So he did as he was told.
After running ten laps, it was lunchtime.
Noah got up with a slightly excited expression.
Unlike when he lived at the village chief’s house, mealtime was enjoyable. He could eat as much delicious food as he wanted, so he ate heartily.
Thanks to this, his once skinny arms were starting to fill out.
“Stand up straight.”
Burt lightly tapped Noah’s slouched back.
When Noah straightened his back, he appeared taller.
Lunch was stew with meat and vegetables, and bread. He eagerly finished two bowls before a thought struck him.
‘Come to think of it, I had something to do.’
Noah had been cooperating with those who bore other ominous symbols.
All they provided was a bit of money, but he had thought his remaining life was predictable, so he passed on information to them.
‘Should I keep doing that?’
As he rolled his eyes, Noah quickly gathered his thoughts.
Continuing that was impossible. He had joined the saint’s group, and his life would improve from now on.
Was there any need to walk back into the gutter? He didn’t think so.
‘There might be problems, though.’
While traveling with the saint, he wouldn’t be touched.
Having made up his mind, Noah picked up his empty bowl and stood up again. He was going for a third serving.
The village chief’s son loitered near the inn. He had heard the rumor that a worthless guy had caught the saint’s eye and was staying by her side.
‘If he can do it, why can’t I?’
Even without red eyes, he was much better. Besides, he thought he was quite handsome.
If he could catch the eye of the naive saint, his life would change. He might even escape this small, miserable village.
“He’s here again.”
“The village chief’s son?”
“Yes. Should we chase him away?”
“Just warn him not to come near. He’ll get the message.”
Anything beyond that seemed excessive.
They didn’t know the details of the village chief’s son’s bad reputation. They just assumed he was like any other follower, eager to catch a glimpse of the saint.
Once the saint passed through, who knew when she would come again?
Everyone wanted to see her face and receive a blessing, so it wasn’t unusual for someone to act similarly.
However, the village chief’s son was crazier than they thought.
As the sun, hidden by clouds, set and night approached, Irene decided to go for a short walk.
Her fever had almost completely subsided, so she wanted to get some fresh air.
Lani, the holy knight, and Noah accompanied her.
“You look taller.”
Noticing that Noah seemed to have grown in just a few days, she commented, and he grinned sheepishly.
“I was always tall.”
“I don’t think so.”
Irene was puzzled but didn’t press the matter further.
‘He must have grown.’
Lacking some common sense, she believed that people could grow that much in a few days.
‘He’s been eating well.’
Because of this, Lani often reported how much Noah was eating.
Unlike Irene, Noah really did eat well. He seemed to eat two to three times as much as an adult man. It was amazing how his stomach could handle it.
As they leisurely walked through the night, someone suddenly jumped out from behind a tree.
“Saint!”
The person who appeared was a fairly handsome man with brown hair.
As soon as he jumped out, Lani shielded Irene, and Noah and the holy knight stepped forward.
“What’s the matter?”
The holy knight asked the man with an annoyed expression.
“I am the village chief’s son. I’ve been waiting here, hoping to see the saint!”
Finally, Irene peeked out to look at him.
“I have a request. I want to join you, Saint!”
Is this guy crazy?
The holy knight thought so, and Lani wasn’t any different.
“What’s he saying? He must be out of his mind,”
Lani whispered to Irene.
Those who served the saint were all carefully selected. Although Noah had joined exceptionally, it was an extremely rare occurrence.
Just suddenly jumping out and asking to join was impossible.
Moreover, Lani had witnessed the village chief’s son hitting Noah.
‘There’s no way he’s a decent person.’
Though she had made mistakes in the past, she had repented and been forgiven.
But what about this man? Did he show any signs of remorse?
Lani didn’t think so.
“He’s a dangerous person.”
Lani took a step back with Irene. Seeing this, the village chief’s son shouted desperately.
“I would be more useful than that trash over there!”
He said, pointing at Noah.
