Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 65
‘What is he saying?’
Irene couldn’t suppress the surge of irritation.
Calling someone trash. Irene had encountered that before.
“Who are you calling trash?”
“That guy over there!”
When he repeated it, Noah, who had been silent all this time, slowly stepped forward to stand in front of the village chief’s son. Then he slowly opened his mouth and spoke.
“Noah.”
“What?”
“My name is Noah.”
“What are you talking about?”
“You’re not very smart, are you? My name is Noah.”
“Huh?”
Irene was surprised by Noah’s actions.
Unlike her, who had lived timidly as a child, Noah seemed to have overcome his circumstances more quickly.
Her heart pounded at seeing him assert that he had a name.
“What makes you think you have a name!”
The village chief’s son snapped irritably, but Noah calmly replied.
“My name is Noah. The saint gave it to me.”
“Someone like you!”
The village chief’s son, seemingly oblivious, was about to lose his temper, but he couldn’t continue. The holy knight, looking annoyed, had placed his hand on the hilt of his sword.
“Let’s stop here. The saint is busy. Don’t block her way any longer.”
“But! But I’m more useful than that guy! So why him? Is it because he has red eyes like yours? Because you share the same ominous symbol?”
At those words, the expressions of the holy knight and Lani instantly darkened.
Irene, too, crossed her arms, having let them hang at her sides until then. She was curious to hear how far he would go, but he didn’t get the chance to continue.
Noah leaned in and whispered something in his ear.
He spoke too softly for Irene to hear, but the village chief’s son seemed to understand perfectly.
His face turned pale, and he staggered away before fleeing.
“What did you say to him?”
When Irene asked, Noah smiled gently and replied,
“Nothing much. He’s just naturally a coward.”
“But are you okay?”
“What do you mean?”
Noah asked, looking unbothered. But Irene knew from what Lani had told her.
As soon as Lani realized Irene was interested in Noah, she had gone around the village gathering information. That’s how she knew what Noah had been through.
“He used to bully you, didn’t he?”
“Yes.”
“Don’t you want to take revenge?”
At the mention of revenge, both Lani and the holy knight tensed up.
“Revenge?”
“Yes.”
Noah looked thoughtful for a moment, staring into the distance. Then, after a short pause, he spoke again.
“It’s okay. I think I’m fine now.”
It was an ambiguous answer, but if Noah didn’t want to pursue it, Irene wasn’t going to force it.
“Alright. Just don’t regret it later.”
“I won’t.”
“Alright then.”
Irene resumed her walk.
After that, the village chief’s son never appeared again. The village chief did come to apologize, but Noah rejected it.
“It wasn’t sincere anyway.”
That was his reason.
Once Irene’s fever subsided, the pilgrimage group began packing their things.
Noah was among them. He was still slender, looking like he might be blown away by the wind, yet he carried the luggage with ease.
‘Well, he was never really weak.’
Burt didn’t find it surprising, but Irene seemed to view it differently.
Even during briefings, she often looked at Noah with curious eyes.
Lately, he had left Irene alone more often.
Due to dealing with heretics, Burt had been in frequent meetings with Garan and Allen. It was more of a power struggle than an exchange of ideas.
Maybe that’s why Irene started paying more attention to Noah, who shared the same red eyes.
‘That’s problematic.’
Burt wanted Irene to be more attached to him. No matter how much she dabbled out of curiosity, he didn’t like the idea of her slipping out of his grasp.
“Irene.”
At the sound of her name, Irene turned her gaze away from Noah. Her clear, shining red eyes looked like jewels.
The eyes that were once darker when he first saw them, just like Irene herself; but now it was gradually changing.
He didn’t like that.
“You haven’t forgotten, have you?”
“Forgotten what?”
“The conversation we had.”
Her curious eyes now darkened deeply.
