Irene Decided to Die - Chapter 89
Guy fell into deep thought, considering his current situation and what might happen if he were to leave.
When he was young, being confined here was distressing and terrifying.
‘Actually, it still is.’
Realizing this made him want to leave. When he thought only of himself and not of anyone else, he felt that desire.
“I want to leave.”
“Then remove the handcuffs and shackles yourself.”
In truth, the handcuffs and shackles weren’t ordinary items. They suppressed the powers of a person with abilities, which was why he couldn’t remove them as a child.
However, even with his powers sealed, Guy had grown, and now he could remove all of it himself.
Perhaps he just needed a trigger. Guy clenched his fist and exerted his strength.
The handcuffs that had bound him for so long broke apart effortlessly. The shackles followed suit.
As he looked at the broken restraints, Guy stood up.
Normally, it would have been impossible to move so easily immediately after being freed from such restraints. But the saintess’s power made everything possible.
Irene extended her hand to Guy.
“Let’s go now.”
What was he supposed to do in this situation?
Guy reached back into his memories. He knelt on one knee and took Irene’s hand. Then, he kissed the back of her hand.
At that moment, he felt a hint of killing intent from somewhere, but he paid it no mind. He knew who held the highest authority here.
“Thank you. I won’t forget this grace.”
With those words, Guy followed Irene.
As they exited, a servant appeared and blocked their path.
“Oh, it’s you.”
Guy stepped forward and made a gesture toward the mute servant. Shadows rose from the floor and bound him.
“Thank you for your service.”
Then they continued downwards.
His legs felt awkward after not walking for so long, but he quickly grew accustomed to it. What concerned him more was the saintess.
“Aren’t you tired?”
Burt asked, prompting a glare from Irene.
“I’m fine.”
“If you’re tired, I can carry you again.”
At his calm remark, Irene clenched her fists tightly.
What was the nature of their relationship? Guy was curious, but he decided to set it aside for now. It wasn’t the most pressing matter.
When they reached the first floor, a large door blocked their way.
Guy placed his hands on the door and pushed. To his surprise, no one was there.
It seemed Burt had quietly dealt with the guards.
‘More importantly…’
Guy took a deep breath. Instead of the damp, moldy smell, he was greeted by fresh, cool air.
The sky was slightly overcast, but not to the point where the light was completely obscured.
Things he couldn’t experience through the tiny window now poured over him. How long had it been since he had seen the outside?
Guy took a step, then another, moving forward. Then he collapsed onto the ground, looking up at the sky.
“Hahaha!”
Laughter burst out of him uncontrollably.
“Alright, now that you’ve enjoyed the outside, let’s get moving.”
The one who spoke to him was Burt.
“I’ve restrained all the guards, but soon Garan will hear about this. We need to hide you before that happens.”
“Where to?”
“We’ll head to Irene’s residence.”
“And after that?”
“This evening, you’ll accompany Saintess Irene as her partner at her welcome banquet.”
“You’ve made quite the plan.”
Guy stood up and dusted off his clothes.
“Then let’s get moving.”
“Can you hide your presence?”
“Yes.”
Guy stood beside Irene and then sank into her shadow.
“So, our walk ends here for today.”
“Yes, Irene.”
They walked leisurely back to their residence.
Upon their return, they found Lani fussing over Noah, making him presentable. His hair was slicked back with oil, and his clothes were changed to neat attire.
“Phew, doesn’t he look like a different person?”
Lani said proudly.
“Indeed. Noah looks quite handsome when he’s all dressed up,”
Irene remarked, making Noah’s ears turn red.
“Handsome?”
“Yes.”
Despite his dislike for being fussed over by Lani, hearing such praise made it seem worthwhile.
Noah smiled faintly, but suddenly, a figure popped out of Irene’s shadow.
Lani’s eyes widened, and she was about to scream when Burt put a finger to his lips.
Lani quickly covered her own mouth. She took a deep breath and then removed her hand.
“Who are you?”
“An important guest. Can you dress him up like Noah?”
Irene asked.
“Y-Yes?”
Lani nodded at Irene’s request.
“It would be best to prepare something more luxurious,”
Burt added.
