It Seems Like The Infamous Trash Can is Right Here! - Chapter 32
As I approached, Vivian, who had just begun boarding the carriage, turned to me with wide eyes.
“Sasha?”
“Yes, Lady Vivian.”
“Wow… Sasha’s casual attire is really… unique!”
Look at her carefully choosing her words.
Vivian really was kindhearted, even if she lacked awareness.
Ilina, on the other hand, looked me up and down with obvious disapproval but said nothing. Had Vivian scolded her into being nicer to me?
Following them, I climbed into the carriage. Soon after, the vehicle began to move, flanked on either side by two mounted knights for escort.
I hadn’t trusted Vivian’s claim that we could sneak out, but even so, this was a bit ridiculous.
At the very least, knowing for certain that I wouldn’t run into Crown Prince Axion today allowed me to relax just a little as I gazed out at the imperial capital unfolding beyond the carriage window.
‘Oh… wow…!’
And just like that, I was utterly captivated.
Compared to the imperial capital, my family’s territory was truly the countryside.
Even though I had lived in the busiest city in my past life, the scenery here was entirely different from the tightly packed skyscrapers piercing the sky. There was an undeniable romantic charm in the air.
The streets were immaculate, and the people walking along them—both men and women—were dressed in such elegant attire that simply watching them was a delight.
‘As expected, the capital is on a different level no matter the world.’
After traveling through the bustling districts for a while, the carriage eventually slowed and came to a stop on the outskirts. The area was lined with grand, elegant buildings, spaced generously apart.
It seemed the charity event Vivian was attending was being held in a rented gallery.
‘What exactly made her think I’d like this?’
For the past hour, I had been trailing behind Vivian, watching her exchange endless greetings and conversations with lavishly adorned noblewomen.
All I wanted was to go back to the estate.
To curl up in the cozy library, munch on cookies, and indulge in a good novel.
‘She must have had a reason for bringing me along.’
I had been watching the auction—held to raise donations—with little interest when Vivian, after briefly conversing with a middle-aged noblewoman, suddenly turned to me.
“Sasha, Marchioness Hillis has been struggling with knee pain lately. Would you be able to help her?”
Ah, so this was the reason.
“She’s been kind enough to act as my chaperone, after all.”
If she’s so grateful, she should repay the favor herself—why are you making me do it? It wasn’t like she was going to compensate me with a special service fee the way Lionel did.
Frankly, any temple in the empire could have treated a knee joint issue. A basic level of divine healing would more than suffice.
And yet, she had dragged me out against my will, all because she was too stingy to donate even a modest sum.
Just wait.
Of course, I only grumbled internally. Outwardly, I gave a pleasant nod.
“Of course, Lady Vivian. Since it’s your request. However, I’d prefer if we moved to a quieter place. This isn’t an ideal setting for prayer.”
To me, it was a perfectly reasonable request.
After all, this place was crowded with dozens of people.
If I were to manifest divine power here, everyone would start bombarding Vivian with their own aches and ailments, asking for my help.
Knowing her, she wouldn’t be able to refuse. And what had started as a simple favor would spiral into a flood of demands disguised as requests, ultimately exhausting me completely.
I was already drained from using my divine power before our departure.
Not to mention, I needed to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to myself.
Yet, for some reason, Vivian looked troubled.
“Oh… does it really have to be that way?”
“There’s no need for all that trouble. I’m fine as is.”
“No, Madam. You left early from the last ball because of your knee pain, remember?”
I watched the conversation between Vivian and Marchioness Hillis with growing unease.
Then, suddenly, Ilina, who had been standing beside me, grabbed my arm.
“Just do as you’re told.”
Her low voice carried an edge of irritation, ensuring that neither Vivian nor the marchioness would hear.
“Why is the Duke’s trophy acting so high and mighty?”
Oh… Now, what do we have here?
Was this the famed territorialism of high society nobles? Or a fresh take on social ostracization?
Either way, I didn’t like it at all.
‘This girl doesn’t know to be afraid of a priest, does she?’
She must think that those who serve the divine are inherently gentle and benevolent. What a misconception. A quick glance through any history book would prove otherwise.
Especially when it came to priests like me, favored by the gods. There was never a need for us to struggle through temperance and self-discipline.
