Killing the Possessor - Chapter 26
Before I received help from Hongik Ingan, I would have never gone to a place like that, where there was a risk of being found out.
But now that I had enough information about the person I was possessing, there was no real reason to avoid it. Most importantly…
“Yeah. I’m going. Why?”
I had to meet the female lead.
I didn’t remember her first name, but I clearly remembered her last name: ‘Hope.’ When I first saw that name, all I could think of was a draft-beer pub, but now, it felt different.
She’s my only hope.
“I heard you went to the dress shop, so I thought… but you’re really going to the palace? Why? Are you debuting or something? Going to meet the prince?”
“Why do you keep asking about the prince? Are you interested?”
“Are you crazy?”
Dahlia’s face scrunched up in a way that made her look like a crumpled tissue. I, for some reason, felt embarrassed at her reaction.
“What shameful things have you done with the prince all this time?”
…Camilli, you had it easy back then.
It seemed like Camilli had been completely shameless when she was dating the prince, practically flaunting it.
Suddenly feeling embarrassed for something I didn’t even do, I wanted to end the conversation quickly.
“If not, then never mind. As long as your mother doesn’t cause a fuss about me, it’s fine.”
“Even if you go to meet the prince, people will talk. Why are you going?”
“Why are you so interested in me?”
I snapped slightly at the repetitive whys. Honestly, I couldn’t give a proper reason, so I was taking it out on her.
I couldn’t exactly say I was going to meet the female lead, could I?
“Is-is it wrong to ask? I might be curious.”
Dahlia huffed, clearly irritated by my reaction. Her face, flushed with a mix of red and blue, looked almost like an angry hamster. I stared at her face. Kid, for real….
“Forget it! I’m not talking to you anymore! I even tried to ask nicely, and you’re being rude!”
She turned with a huff and stomped up the stairs. I watched Dahlia, thinking maybe their relationship wasn’t as bad as it seemed.
“How long has it been since they were tearing each other’s hair out and fell into the lake?”
Shaking my head to clear the thought, I returned to my room. I had gotten so focused on meeting Bali that I forgot about the dress for the ball.
“I don’t think it’ll be made in ten days.”
Seeing that there were no reserved dress, it seemed Camilli hadn’t planned on going to the ball.
Of course, she probably didn’t want to be the center of attention at a place where her ex would be.
“Ugh, ten more days of waiting.”
But what bothered me more than the dress was the fact that I had to wait ten more days to meet the female lead.
“Isn’t there any way to meet her sooner?”
But since the debut ball was the main event of the first chapter, and my lifespan seemed to follow the plot, it probably wouldn’t be wise to change the course of things.
“Is this really all I can do?”
Frustrated, I thought about fanning myself with the fan on the table, to fan my stuffy chest.
“Hmm?”
A letter fell to the floor, having been knocked off by the fan.
“Who sent this?”
It wasn’t there when I left. If I had received it while I was out, the maid would have mentioned it.
“Could it be… Hongik Ingan?”
It had been a short time since we met. Was it about the ball?
With curiosity, I quickly picked up the letter and checked its contents.
But the message was much different from what I had expected.
[Kim Sae-i’s Salvation – from Mockingbird]
“…What is this?”
Apart from the brief note, there was…
“A QR code?”
I couldn’t believe it. A QR code? In a time without smartphones?
But as I stared at the code, suddenly a message appeared right in front of me.
[The code has been recognized!]
