Killing the Possessor - Chapter 34
I couldn’t sense where the evil spirit was. As I wandered, I thought it would be better to head upstairs to a room with furniture to hide behind, rather than staying in this open space. The fact that the people who had been dancing in the hall were now all gone made everything feel unreal.
Perhaps this was just another effect of the game. Walking through the eerily quiet space, my heartbeat felt unbearably loud.
“Ugh, I really hate this.”
With the feeling that something could jump out at any moment, I kept looking around nervously as I ascended the stairs.
Sssss.
Suddenly, a chilling presence came from below. I hadn’t developed any sixth sense like something from a martial arts novel just because I was possessed, but I could feel a drastic drop in temperature, and then a very unpleasant presence behind me.
“Everyone, experience it, get buried, in the wall, everyone…”
The voice muttering what sounded like a curse from below was unexpectedly familiar. It was the woman I had seen before meeting Illui. She had been standing there like a wall flower wearing a blue dress.
Her feet slightly off the ground, she was now climbing the stairs, her eyes darting around with the pupils fully black.
I held my breath, hoping she hadn’t noticed me, and took another step. However, it seemed like the evil spirit had an exceptionally keen sense of hearing, and unfortunately, I was immediately spotted.
“You too, like me…”
The evil spirit, who had been moving slowly, suddenly accelerated several times over. Swallowing my scream, I lifted my dress and jumped up two steps at a time.
“Camil!”
Suddenly, there was a voice calling my name from above. When I looked up, I saw a familiar man frantically waving his hand from above.
“This way!”
It was the prince, the same one I had earlier left behind when I decided to follow Illui. With a favorability of 88, I didn’t think he would be the one to push me into a dangerous situation. Especially now, with the evil spirit in front of us, his willingness to shout and take risks seemed to prove he genuinely wanted to help me.
Following the prince into a mysterious room, he hastily shut the door and locked it.
That wouldn’t help much, would it? I wondered, watching closely to see what he would do next.
The person who appeared as a savior turned out to be the only one among the three male leads who lacked the ability to repel evil spirits—the prince.
“Look, if we stay together, the evil spirit will find us soon.”
However, my worried statement was met with an irrelevant reply.
“You’re still being respectful in a situation like this? You really have to make it so obvious that you’re drawing lines? Camil, you’re something else.”
“…”
I guess we usually spoke informally?
Still, considering he was royalty, I expected Camilli would make an effort to use proper speech. But it seems like Camilli didn’t bother with that at all.
Well, it was puppy love that started in childhood. If I started using respectful tone now, it might seem suspicious, so I decided to change my tone at this point.
“Enough with the nonsense. So, is this room protected by a barrier or something?”
“Barrier?”
He looked at me with confusion for a moment before saying something that really didn’t instill confidence.
“There’s no barrier. But if we wait a bit, the imperial guard will handle it. I’ve already contacted the temple, so the knights will arrive soon.”
“But the evil spirit already saw us. It’s probably charging at us right now.”
“Don’t worry, Camil. I’ll protect you.”
So how exactly is he going to protect me?
I sighed as I looked at the prince, who was making frustratingly naive statements. I hadn’t planned on following him, but here I was.
Still, considering he was willing to say something like that after being slapped, it seemed he was still quite attached. With an affinity of 88, I couldn’t help but wonder why they had broken up.
Was it Camilli’s change of heart?
“Here, everyone, forever…”
As I expected, the evil spirit had found us. The chilling sound from beyond the door made the prince, who had been desperately trying to block the door with furniture, tremble.
“Damn Coreldi!”
Coreldi? Was that the woman’s name?
I asked curiously.
“Do you know her?”
“I do. She’s a woman who couldn’t get married even after more than six years since her debut. Baron Coreldi even publicly said he had given up on his daughter. I guess she was so heartbroken that she ended up being possessed by an evil spirit.”
It seemed that what I saw earlier was correct.
It wasn’t a lonely choice she made; it was forced loneliness.
And the prince’s efforts to stop her were futile.
With a powerful force from the unknown, he was thrown aside, landing on his backside, while the furniture that had been blocking the door was all sent flying.
