Killing the Possessor - Chapter 38
I blinked several times, rubbed my eyes, but the scene before me stayed the same.
Yes. Completely unexpectedly, I was in a classroom. In my old school classroom, to be precise.
“What… is going on?”
Not only had I possessed someone from another world, but now I was back in the past? At least, in the past, I wouldn’t have to worry about my life, so should I be happy?
Just then, one of my familiar classmates, spinning a crumpled textbook in his hand, spoke.
“By the way, they’re changing seats today.”
The reaction came immediately. Another male student immediately nudged his friend with his elbow, chuckling.
“Hey, aren’t you sitting next to Go Hyeji again?”
“Shut up. You wanna die?”
“Why, does it make you excited to sit next to your girlfriend?”
“What are you saying, -sshole? She’s your girlfriend.”
My gaze automatically shifted to a female student sitting at an angle in the front row. Thanks to her large build, I was able to spot her immediately.
I remembered. Go Hyeji.
She was a classmate from middle school, often teased for her larger physique compared to others.
The boys’s voices were loud enough that she must have heard everything. Her clenched jaw, the uneven breaths escaping her, and most notably, the pencil that wasn’t moving anymore were all showing her emotional state.
What did I do at the time? I vaguely remember not feeling good about it, but not wanting to get involved in the trouble, I just put on my headphones and tried to sleep again.
I wasn’t particularly close with Go Hyeji anyway.
The pranks that crossed the line, which had caused her severe pain, only became a source of guilt for me after she transferred to another school. As someone who had also aimed for a specialized high school, I knew better than anyone how difficult that decision must have been for her.
If only someone had stepped in and stopped them.
If only…
Screech.
I pushed my chair back and stood up, walking toward the group of male students who were still cluelessly laughing and teasing.
“Hey.”
I couldn’t remember their names. Back then, I was so determined not to get involved with kids like them that I betrayed my own conscience.
But now, with a bit more maturity, I knew it wasn’t worth anything.
“Is Hyeji out of her mind? You think she’s going to be your girlfriend?”
“Kim Sae-i. What the hell are you saying?”
“Hyeji’s blind or something? Look in the mirror before you open your mouth and say bu-lshit like that.”
Actually, one of the guys in the group was quite good-looking and had a decent amount of popularity at school. But so what? Being beautiful doesn’t change the fact that they’re toxic. Someone who spews garbage every time they open their mouth is not even fit to be admired as decoration.
“Kim Sae-i, are you done talking?”
“No, I’m not. Knock it off. Stop bothering Hyeji and go find yourselves real girlfriends. Not that anyone would actually date you.”
“You’re done!”
Like any hot-blooded teenager, one of the boys who was feeling insulted, raised his hand in a threatening manner. While I wasn’t exactly not scared, my courage, having already faced terrifying evil spirits twice, had become sturdier, like I’d had some sort of inoculation.
Yeah, go ahead. I might as well enjoy the financial compensation? Unlike the evil spirits, I could probably get a settlement out of this guy.
But no matter how long I waited, I didn’t feel any pain. In fact, I couldn’t hear any movement at all.
I slowly opened my eyes, and there, in front of me, stood the boy who had been about to hit me, frozen with his arm raised. It was like a scene straight out of Medusa. Looking around, every person and object in the room was in the same state.
“…What is this?”
While I was the only one panicking in this frozen world, the dense fog, like when I first arrived here, began to envelop the area, and the familiar unsettling sensation returned.
With my eyes closed, I focused on the thumping pulse in my chest. I didn’t know exactly what was happening, but it was clear I was being transported somewhere again.
Then, as the firm ground beneath my knees and legs became apparent, I opened my eyes.
“…”
Right in front of me was a butt.
A very enormous butt.
