Killing the Possessor - Chapter 4
The pain was so intense, like my entire body was burning and being torn apart. I couldn’t understand what sin I had committed to deserve such punishment. I had died young in a traffic accident and now, on top of that, I was being exorcised.
It was too much, and I began to sob in frustration.
“…Huh?”
Suddenly, my vision shifted, and it was as though I had been teleported to a completely different room. The terrible pain that had been tormenting me disappeared, and my mind was still struggling to catch up.
Before my brain could fully process what had just happened, my reflexive action was to check my hair. Apparently, the fact that I had lived my whole life as a black-haired Asian person and now had blonde hair had subconsciously affected me more than I realized.
“Blonde… No, it’s not.”
To my surprise, the hair I was holding was red. The exorcism had thrown me into another body once again.
Just as I was frozen, unsure of what to do, someone suddenly barged through the door.
“Oh dear, Miss Camilli still hasn’t woken up.”
A maid, who was quickly inspecting me while I was pretending to still be asleep, muttered to herself. Coincidentally, I recognized the name she said.
It could have been just a coincidence, but considering the interior of the room was very similar to the one I had just woken up in, it didn’t take long for me to figure out who the new body I had possessed belonged to.
Camilli Mute. She was the half-sister of Dahlia Mute, the woman I had originally possessed.
She was now the body I would be living in.
* * *
Strangely enough, unlike the glasses I had repeatedly been taking off and putting on when it didn’t match my prescription, this time there were no side effects at all. Aside from the weakness I felt after just waking up, I actually felt surprisingly refreshed.
“Miss Camilli! I was so worried!”
When I finally gathered my composure and got up, unable to keep pretending to sleep any longer, a girl dressed in a maid’s outfit grabbed my hand, her eyes brimming with tears.
Naturally, I wasn’t about to make the same mistake again. I acted as naturally as possible.
“My head hurts. Could you bring me some water?”
One foolish mistake was enough. I should have kept my mouth shut when I first possessed the body until I had a clearer understanding of the situation.
“Uh, Miss Camilli… that’s you, right?”
At the hesitant question, an alarm went off in my mind.
I thought I was speaking normally—did I get it wrong? Does Camilli Mute have some unique character traits or something?
“What are you talking about?”
I racked my brain, but nowhere in the many novels I had read had I encountered the name ‘Camilli Mute’. Even if it had appeared, there was no way I would remember it. I could barely recall the name of the lead from the book I had read yesterday.
For now, I decided to observe the maid’s reaction and adjust my tone if necessary, all the while keeping an edge of irritation in my voice, just in case the person I had possessed was the villain.
Why, it’s common, right? To possess the body of a beautiful but utterly trashy villain.
“Ah, yes, that’s right?”
Was it the slightly irritated tone that made the difference? The maid sighed in relief and smiled brightly.
“Well, it’s just that, for a brief time, an evil spirit possessed Lady Dahlia’s body, you know?”
“…”
It’s not an evil spirit, but this woman.
I felt wronged, but unable to protest, I simply kept my mouth shut.
“I was so scared thinking a possessor had appeared in this house too. You know, Lady Vivalon, the one who married two years ago, was revealed to be a possessor, and she got divorced and dragged to the Public Security Bureau. It was a huge mess!”
Who is this Lady Vivalon?
I heard an unfamiliar name, but I couldn’t show it. I continued to press my forehead, pretending to be dizzy, while carefully listening to the maid.
To hear the word ‘possessor’ from her… does that mean possession is common in this world?
“Anyway, it was such a relief that there was an exorcist priest nearby. Rose was quick to bring him in. If that evil spirit had fully taken control of Lady Dahlia’s body, oh, it would have been terrible! Ugh, so scary!”
Who is Rose? But that wasn’t what mattered right now.
A world where possessors are common. And where they are treated as evil spirits and persecuted.
This reminded me of the novel I had been reading before I got hit by the truck.
Could it be that the exorcism I experienced was…?
“Leave that body immediately!”
So that was it?
Clenching my fists at the thought of the priest, handsome though he was, ruthlessly performing the exorcism on me, I finally understood.
Where I am now.
