Looking for a Husband to Confine Me - Chapter 15
Chapter 15
He was like the rest of his family, vain, pretentious, and prone to extravagance. He was also older than me and physically imposing, so he wouldn’t budge with just any words.
In other words, he was the most difficult member of the family to deal with. Kelliard gripped my wrist tightly and quickened his pace.
“Wait, let go of this!”
“Be quiet and just follow me.”
“I’ll follow you quietly, so let go.”
This jerk! I was going to fall over because he was walking so fast.
I wanted to yell at him, but I held back, afraid of attracting unwanted attention. My wrist was throbbing, and I was worried it might bruise.
Kelliard had stopped in his tracks when he saw me in the room, staring at me as if he couldn’t comprehend the situation.
“Why are you here?”
“I have something to do.”
As soon as I finished speaking, Kelliard rushed toward me, grabbed my wrist, and pulled me out of the dressing room. His expression was grim, indicating that he was clearly misunderstanding something.
But he wasn’t even going to listen to me, so I had no choice but to be dragged along. I was struggling to keep up with Kelliard’s stride, and my breath was catching in my throat.
Finally, he stopped his fast pace when we reached a secluded spot behind the Knights’ Order building.
“Ouch!”
I bumped my nose against his back when he suddenly stopped. My nose was stinging, and I felt tears welling up.
“Shut up.”
Kelliard roughly shook off my wrist as if it were dirty.
This jerk!
He was the one who grabbed me first. I stroked my slightly reddened wrist and met Kelliard’s piercing gaze.
Kelliard Hazel, like his parents, didn’t like me. From his perspective, I was a thorn in his side, constantly criticizing his family.
He didn’t like my suggestion that the family needed to change for the sake of the future. He thought that if he eventually rose to a high position, there wouldn’t be a need for change.
The eldest son of the Hazel County had a high opinion of himself. He believed he would definitely succeed in the future.
What a narcissist.
Even so, I thought Kelliard was better than the rest of his family because, at least, he was earning his own money.
Kelliard worked for the future and had ambition. Unlike his family, who simply sought to live a life of luxury, he aimed for something higher.
However, that also made him more difficult to deal with, which was even more annoying.
“What are you doing here? You’re such a nuisance.”
Kelliard felt the same way about me.
“Like I said, I have something to do.”
I stroked my still-stinging wrist as I spoke. My nose was also throbbing, and I was worried it might start bleeding.
“What the hell are you doing here?”
He frowned, clearly displeased.
Could it be that Kelliard didn’t know yet that I was involved in the poisoning of the Kishan princes? What did he say earlier? Pazl escaped the Imperial Palace?
I narrowed my eyes. Kelliard had definitely said that as he entered the dressing room. He said he couldn’t find Pazl in Sector C.
‘Did Pazl escape from the Knights’ Order?’
That would explain the tense atmosphere in the Knights’ Order and Ricardo’s sharp gaze towards me.
“Who are you to come here? You’re not fit to be here.”
“Do I have to explain that to you?”
I wanted to organize my thoughts, but Kelliard kept interrupting me.
“Amelia, you’ve become quite rebellious since we last met.”
“You didn’t swear your oath as a knight in front of His Imperial Highness to beat up a vulnerable younger sister,” I replied nonchalantly, watching Kelliard’s fist clench as he stared at me.
He was a member of the Empire’s Knights’ Order, specifically the Crown Prince’s direct Knights’ Order, while I was practically a civilian.
If he were to hurt me, it would be Kelliard who would be in trouble.
“Ugh.”
He ran his hand through his hair in a gesture of annoyance. His dark brown hair fell out of place.
“I have a general idea of why you’re here.”
He looked at my face and seemed surprised. I thought he didn’t know, but apparently, he did.
“Even if you beg me, I won’t help you. Just so you know.”
“…?”
What does that mean?
“Help me with what?”
“I heard from my parents that Hector wants to break off the engagement.”
“Oh, yeah, that’s right.”
No, it wasn’t. Kelliard really didn’t know why I was here. He was just guessing based on the information he had.
Even that guess was wrong.
“I think you’re trying to win Hector back, but I won’t help you. You’re so pathetic, Hector will just find another woman.”
He seemed to know about Vivian, the other woman. The rumor of the Grand Duke appearing at the banquet with another woman must have spread far and wide.
“Amelia, you being the Grand Duchess was nonsense from the start.”
He sneered at me.
Among his family, Kelliard was the only one who disliked me becoming the Grand Duchess. The reason was simple. He was envious of my success. He had harbored a strange sense of inferiority towards me since childhood.
“Don’t worry about it.” Unlike him, I didn’t care at all. I smiled at him and continued, “Even if I die, I will never kneel and beg before you.”
His mocking expression contorted. Perhaps Kelliard wanted to elicit that expression from me, but I didn’t understand. I was indifferent to his displeasure or approval.
“Speaking of which, you should try harder, brother.”
“…What are you talking about?”
“I heard you’re being considered for the next Deputy Commander position.”
Kelliard, dressed in his Knight’s uniform, flinched for a moment. He then looked at me calmly, though his effort to appear calm was obvious.
“What are you trying to say, Amelia?”
“Nothing, just that it seems the next Deputy Commander isn’t being informed about the proper case progression.”
“What?”
I smiled and continued, “It looked to me like you were just doing menial tasks.”
The fact that I was involved in the case of the Kishan Princes seemed to be known only to a few people in Crow.
But Kelliard, who was even considered for the Deputy Commander position, wasn’t informed that his own sister was involved. Of course, they might have kept it a secret because we were siblings.
But if that were the case, he would have avoided encountering me today.
The fact that he didn’t means that he was never told about it in the first place. He probably didn’t even think it was necessary to tell him.
“Amelia.”
Kelliard gritted his teeth and growled softly.
I didn’t care about his reaction, but I had to respond to his provocation.
“Besides, why do you open the door when you enter the Commander’s office? You don’t know who’s inside or what they’re doing.”
“Shut your mouth.”
“And you even reveal the contents so easily without your superior’s permission. That’s why people who shouldn’t know, like me, end up finding out.”
His gaze was fierce. He couldn’t contain his anger, and his clenched lips trembled.
Finally, I added one more thing, “You’re still a long way off, brother.”
Bang! As expected, Kelliard punched the wall of the Knight’s building with a clenched fist.
“Amelia Hazel!”
If I were hit by that fist, I’d at least have a fracture.
“Whew, you. You’ve been acting recklessly since I haven’t been paying attention to you. You’ve been disrespectful to our parents too.”
“That’s not something you should be saying to me.”
If I had to choose one person in the family who was acting like a tyrant, it would be Kelliard. He acted recklessly at home, but he always pretended to be the head of the family outside.
I could hear the sound of his teeth grinding. Kelliard seemed genuinely angry.
‘It’s better to get hit here than to start something unnecessary.’
I glared at Kelliard’s tightly clenched fist and gritted my teeth. Where should I get hit to hurt less? I’ll get hit by him and report it. It would be easier on my mind if he was locked up in prison for a while.
Just as Kelliard’s eyes flashed with fire, ready to swing his fist.
“It’s too noisy to sleep.”
A voice suddenly came from somewhere.
Both Kelliard and I were startled. He looked around frantically, but there was no one nearby.
“What, what is it? Where.”
He bit his lip and began to tense up. The situation was definitely not in his favor, even though we were siblings.
‘The voice came from above.’
Since there was no sign of anyone, they must have been there before we arrived.
As I looked up…
“Kelliard Hazel.”
I saw a figure jumping down from the tree. The figure called Kelliard’s name softly.
“Shouldn’t you be on duty right now?”
The figure landed gracefully, wearing the same uniform as Kelliard. No, unlike Kelliard, who was neatly dressed in his uniform, the stranger was wearing it more like a casual garment.
Her light purple hair, tied high, swayed. The figure, a woman in a uniform, slowly approached me.
‘Who is she?’
Kelliard’s complexion turned pale when he saw her.
“…Commander.”
Kelliard muttered softly.
The Commander? The one who was said to be absent?
I widened my eyes and looked up at the woman taller than me. Her blue eyes met mine. She then smiled, showing her teeth.
