Magic Genius of the Fallen Dukedom - chapter 2.2
In the past, the gazes directed towards Aden were usually of two kinds: disregard or hostility. While most gazes leaned towards disregard, Professor Platinum was the epitome of hostility. Constantly picking fights with him, questioning his academic achievements, and even petitioning for his expulsion twice.
“Professor called, why no response? Aden Dull-Myon?”
“It’s Myon.”
“Ah, I see. Aden Myon. What’s your answer to the question?”
What’s your reason for choosing to attend magic taxonomy?
The professor’s statement was correct.
More accurately, it’s not so much that he wanted to use magic beyond my abilities, but rather that it’s nearly impossible for me to perform the magical computations required for casting solely in my mind.
The cursed owner of a forgetful mind, who quickly forgets the values calculated a few seconds ago, inevitably needed the help of paper and pen. The only hope for Aden was runic magic that could prepare the arrays in advance.
However.
Is runic magic really inferior to spellcasting?
Now that Aden has regained his clear state of mind, will he choose spellcasting as his main focus?
No, he won’t.
He was someone who had experienced the greatness of runic magic more surely than anyone else.
“The reason I chose to attend Magic Taxonomy is…”
The eyes of all the students in the same class turned to him.
The eldest son of a nobleman with nothing but a facade.
A perennial underachiever at the 2nd circle.
Always disregarded, but now with a look that hopes to give the professor a taste of his own medicine.
“It’s because it’s the only magic that can overcome the limitations of spellcasting.”
The limitations of spellcasting.
Upon hearing that phrase, Professor Platinum’s face turned an ugly shade of red.
“You’re talking about the limitations of spellcasting now?”
“Yes, that’s correct.”
“Ha! Haha. Talking about the limitations of spellcasting like a 2nd circle mage. I’ve never been so curious in my life. What limitations are you talking about?”
“Well, it’s about efficiency. Spellcasting requires more mana than circle magic.”
With a thunderous voice directed at Aden, who was naturally repeating Izein’s response, he exploded,
“You’re just repeating the same thing! So, are you saying that magic that conserves mana to that extent can only achieve the likes of a 3rd circle Evaporation Spell or a 4th circle Stone Wall Spell? How does that overcome any limits of spellcasting? Ah! A mage who can create 3rd circle evaporation with spellcasting managed to create 4th circle stone walls with advanced magic? It might have taken several times the effort and cost, but the limits were overcome! Is that what you’re saying?”
“At that level, there wouldn’t be much difference.”
“So?”
All eyes in the lecture hall were fixed on Aden.
What is he trying to say?
“9th Circle Meteor, 9th Circle Revival, 9th Circle Stop.”
Aden’s voice carried vividness and clarity.
“10th Circle Time Reversal.”
“······”
“At the pinnacle, even with 8th circle being the current limit of spellcasting, spells like these cannot be realized. But through runic magic, it’s possible. Even a 7th circle mage can use 8th circle spells. Because mana efficiency is maximized.”
‘There may be unbearable side effects as well.’
But he didn’t bother to add that.
The surroundings fell silent.
The professor’s forced laughter broke the brief silence, as if overwhelmed by the strangely confident statement.
“Hahaha. Time Reversal Magic Circle, you say? There were fools even among the students of Hibernium who believed that farce. It’s a fake. Just a hollow magic circle with some plausible formulas thrown in for good measure, but there’s no verified evidence behind it.”
“How would you know that, Professor?”
“What?”
“The Time Reversal Magic Circle consists of three 9th circle spells and one 10th circle spell. But Professor, you…”
Aden gazed silently at the professor.
Though he didn’t say it aloud, there was no one in the classroom who didn’t understand the implication.
You’ve reached just the 5th circle.
How can you judge the truth of a 10th circle magic within the realm of a 5th circle subject?
Know your place.
The professor’s sense of inferiority was pricked by that arrogant gaze, and eventually, he exploded.
“Oh, is that so, Young Lord? Perhaps it’s because of your noble lineage that you harbor such lofty aspirations. Overcoming the limits of spellcasting! The revival of ancient magic! To think that a mere lowly 2nd-circle mage dreams of such unrealistic and grand ambitions, wow, how impressive!”
The professor’s voice rose, veins bulging on his neck as he launched into his tirade. Beyond, the bewildered gazes of his peers and the concerned look from Izein wavered.
Did he ever consider standing up to the professor and enduring the consequences? Did he think it would be better to just keep quiet and avoid the situation altogether? There were times when he did.
But was it really because of his attitude that Platinum disliked him? No, it was that Platinum disliked Aden himself. They disliked him for being a noble, and despite being a noble, they harassed him relentlessly because he was an easy target.
Even in his past life, where he endured any humiliation quietly, he petitioned twice for Aden’s expulsion.
Is there any reason to stoop to the level of someone who treats you like crap, no matter how you deal with them? Well, even if there is, that’s not how he’s going to live.
Almost ten years ago, Aden had already made up his mind not to live like that.
“But, Your Grace, aren’t you still at the 2nd circle? Even after three years since admission, you haven’t progressed even after your first circle. When do you plan to develop 3rd and 4th circle magic spells and even decipher 10th circle magic spells? You’re moving at such a leisurely pace, aren’t you, future Duke?”
His anger doesn’t rise. The opponent who once seemed formidable now appeared pitifully insignificant, despite his best efforts to mock him.
However…
‘Since I’m already here, I might as well take advantage of it.’
So, why not give him a taste of his own medicine?
“It’s the teacher’s responsibility to teach well, isn’t it? Put in a bit more effort, Platinum.”
