Moon of the Demon World - Chapter 4
The Incubus were the weakest among the demons. Their physical strength was weaker than the unintelligent beasts and even fell short compared to humans. Their only power was the ability to dominate a human’s mind. However, they couldn’t control many minds at once, only a single human at a time.
They ravaged the bodies of the humans they controlled, feeding on the shame, pleasure, and the sorrow of purity corrupted. They didn’t gain the power to rule nations by dominating humans — they merely consumed their corruption.
Human corruption was the only energy Incubi could consume. It was their lifeblood. With such pitiful combat abilities, they couldn’t face a human one-on-one. So, they snuck into their dreams, taking advantage of the moments when humans slept to seize control of their minds and siphon the energy they needed. This was the only way for the weakest of demons, the Incubi, to survive.
The gateway to enter human dreams was located in the Capital — more precisely, beneath the Demon King’s castle. The Demon Kings of the past hadn’t cared much about that door. Only Incubi and Succubi needed it, and they lived as quietly as possible to avoid the notice of other demons. The Demon Kings ignored them, and the door remained neglected, used solely by the Incubi and Succubi to come and go silently.
As Liru drew closer to the capital, the mixed scents of various demons overwhelmed his senses. Hastily, he wrapped a cloak around himself.
Among the demonkind, some dress like human priests, while others go completely naked, but since so many different types of demons live together, they generally don’t pay much attention to clothing. That was at least a small relief.
There are many demons who look similar to humans, but Incubi stood out distinctly. To enter human dreams and seduce them, their appearance is always beautiful and flamboyant, sometimes even resembling angels at a glance. Among them, Liru was even more conspicuous. His platinum hair, nearly white, and clear, blue eyes — rare to see in the demon world — looked more like those of an angel than of a demon.
Among the demons, most of whom have dark hair, he couldn’t help but stand out.
Liru tightened his cloak more, fearing even a single strand of hair might escape. Demons uninterested in him passed by his side. Each time, his heart pounded loudly, but he had no time to hesitate.
Incubi typically go out to hunt humans every week to two weeks. If they absorb high-quality energy, they can survive up to two months, but unless they specifically target priests while avoiding the Celestial’s notice, obtaining such quality energy is difficult. Usually, they could only last about a month at most.
And the last time Liru went hunting was a month ago. After that, his mind was completely consumed by the new Demon King, and he didn’t even consider going out to hunt. Besides, Liru originally didn’t like hunting humans and tended to endure until reaching his limit. This time was no different.
But if the door closed like this, he wouldn’t even survive a week due to lack of energy. And it wasn’t just him — other Incubi, who might not seem to like him much but are still like family, will also be unable to feed and will all die.
Though Incubi are often discriminated against and looked down upon even within the demon realm, no one had ever tried to completely wipe them out until now. Yet suddenly, this was happening…
Liru ran quickly down a familiar path. Several demons he bumped into tried to grab him to cause trouble, but Liru had no time to calm them down. He only hurriedly apologized and kept running.
