Yet even this transformed version of Luna stoked Kadan’s jealousy. That bastard must’ve watched her change like this from right beside her.
“Now that I think of it, I forgot one thing.”
Kadan pinned Luna against the wall. Ngh— She winced, a soft moan escaping as her back met unyielding stone and her front pressed against Kadan’s equally unrelenting body. Her legs hooked around his waist, clinging to him as he hiked up the layers of her billowing skirt.
“Your greeting. I’ve missed hearing it.”
The words she’d always offered when he returned to the cabin—the ones that, even while chopping wood or shopping, had made him hurry home.
Greeting? Luna glanced at him, wracking her memory. After a hesitant pause, her lips parted:
“Hel…lo, Mr. Kadan? Mmph!”
The moment the words left her, Kadan’s mouth crashed onto hers. Gone was the languid predator.
Their reunion kiss was deep, lingering—to sate months of longing.
Luna’s movements were clumsy with inexperience, but the conqueror of the kingdom showed no such hesitation. His thick tongue invaded, mapping the roof of her mouth, tracing her teeth. He then chased Luna’s retreating tongue until he caught it, sucking hard enough to steal her breath.

Luna remained trapped between the wall and Kadan’s body. Her thighs parted around the rigid outline straining against his pants. He ground against Luna’s lower body. Her legs stiffened and fell open, the thin fabric of her undergarments did nothing to block the scorching heat radiating from him.
‘Does he mean to do it here? Right now?’
As his member swelled aggressively between them, her slender limbs trembled—yet Luna fought the urge to push him away.
‘He’s not the enemy commander. Not the Inut prince.’
This was Kadan. The forest keeper who’d saved her. The man from the cabin.
She shut her eyes. Though she was ashamed at the thought of baring herself before a crowd, if this was what Kadan wanted, she’d endure it. Hadn’t she spent months scanning temple balconies for him, vowing to accept every part of him?
A calloused hand—bare now that his gloves were discarded—trailed up her thigh. New scars she didn’t recognize mottled his palm, rougher than she remembered. From the war?
His sweat-damp fingers gripped Luna with desperation. At the same time, he rubbed against the curve of Luna’s hips. This wasn’t the Kadan she knew; he moved like a beast. The aggressive pheromones rolling off his skin threatening to overpower her senses.
‘Don’t tense up.’
Luna exhaled slowly, willing her body to relax, then spread her thighs wider. She locked her legs around his waist, pulling him flush against her.
“It’s alright, Kadan.”
Though she was the one cornered, it was Luna who soothed him. Not permission—not exactly. More a promise: Whatever you do to me, I’ll bear it if it’s you. So don’t you dare feel guilty.
His thick palm stalled as hes troked over her pale skin. A muscle jumped in his jaw; she heard his teeth grind.
“How can you—every time—”
His black eyes flickered wildly. A foreign curse tore from his throat.
“‘Alright’? You know what I’m about to do here, and it’s still ‘alright’?”
Hah. Kadan stopped and buried his face in her shoulder. Inhale. He took her scent in each breath.
Then Kadan’s gaze snagged on her collarbone. Frowning, he hooked a finger under the neckline of her vestments and yanked it down.
There was a scarred bite mark left by the king.
The barely leashed calm in Kadan’s eyes shattered into violence again.
He didn’t ask how she’d gotten it. But the realization struck like a blade. The one who marked her, and what he was doing now—are they so different?
