My Contract Husband Resembles the Male Protagonist - Chapter 26
“That woman was the Lord’s granddaughter, a very thin woman, Sophia Grunwald.”
“Is she someone you care about?”
Dale brewed cocoa and approached me. Of course, the cocoa was mine.
He enjoyed a cup of clear herbal tea.
“I put in five marshmallows.”
“That’s exactly right!”
I blew on the cocoa Dale brought me and took a sip.
Dale knew my taste without saying a word.
Putting exactly five marshmallows was ideal. If there were too many, they covered the warmth of the cocoa, and having more than five caused a mess.
“Dale, you said you’re going to work at Grunwald Castle, right?”
“Yes.”
Dale hesitated a bit before answering.
“I mainly go to the Castle, and if there’s work elsewhere, I go there too.”
“It’s not a dangerous job, is it?”
“It’s just odd jobs.”
I felt relieved by Dale’s answer.
Since he was my contract husband for 364 days, his life now belonged solely to him.
“Dale, I told you that I want to have a field.”
“Yes, I remember.”
“But it’s too expensive.”
Dale looked heartbroken at my words.
“But now there’s definitely a way to get it.”
“What do you mean?”
“Dale, can you take me to the Lord’s Castle tomorrow?”
“To take Miss Enya to the Castle…”
I stared at him quizzically.
Dale avoided eye contact and blushed awkwardly.
“Miss Enya, your dress is disheveled.”
“Oh, really? I’m sorry.”
The hem of my dress had rolled up slightly, but it was only up to the calves.
‘Dale dislikes seeing even a little exposure of others’ bodies.’
I made a mental note to remember that.
I have to be careful in front of Dale!
“If you want to go to the Lord’s Castle, it’s possible. I’ll take you there.”
“Really?”
“Yes. But I’m worried because I won’t be able to stay with you, Miss Enya.”
“I just need you to take me there.”
“…..”
Dale looked disappointed.
“But how do you work there, Dale?”
“I clean up the long-neglected hunting grounds.”
“Do you build fences in case monsters come down unexpectedly?”
“Yes.”
Hearing that, Dale seemed a bit worried.
How could someone who couldn’t even kill an ant and released it outside deal with monsters?
What about the mercenaries?
It was unimaginable for the current Dale.
‘I can’t believe he’s such a good guy…….’
* * *
“Thank you for taking me.”
Dale, who brought me to the Castle, couldn’t lift his foot and looked at me with a sad expression.
“Are you okay alone?”
“Dale said there was a sudden business trip today. Take care.”
“…..”
He murmured with a worried look on his face.
“I’m not a child. I’ll be fine alone.”
“If it wasn’t for work, I would have been with you. I’m sorry.”
That’s when I saw something through the permanent window.
‘It’s Adelaine’
She stuck to the window and glared at me.
“Dale, thanks for taking me here.”
I hugged Dale very affectionately.
Then Adelaine scowled and went back inside.
I made sure Adelaine was all the way in and before letting go of Dale.
“Phew. Dale, I’m sorry, Adelaine’s in there. Dale?”
He was red-faced and stiff as a board.
“I’m sorry, did I startle you with a hug?”
“No…… no, I’m fine.”
He replied in a small voice.
“I’ll be right back.”
Dale bowed awkwardly, then led his horse away.
I stared after him, admiring his broad shoulders and steady stance.
He must have been a mercenary who rode a lot.
If he was from the north, he must have ridden a lot, especially with the long distances between villages and the rough roads.
Strange, though…….
‘His riding posture looks like he learned to ride from a nobleman.’
It was very similar to the way my brother, who works as a knight in the Imperial Castle, rides his horse.
No, Dale’s way of riding was even cooler.
“What is this giddiness?”
I glared at Dale and then looked away.
It must be a mistake.
Dale is very handsome, and he must look different on horseback.
I took off my hood and walked into the manor.
