My Contract Husband Resembles the Male Protagonist - Chapter 59
“Is this really Dale’s house?”
I asked as I stepped into the three-story house located in the residential area of the capital.
Though it wasn’t far from the bustling Shurt Street filled with shops, it was peaceful and quiet.
It was the perfect house, and I couldn’t believe how he found such a location.
I went up to the second floor, opened the window wide, and admired the view.
“Wow…!”
From here, I could see the shopping district and the whole capital at a glance.
“Dale, you know, this place is really…”
“Yes, it is. It’s a bit old and hasn’t been fully repaired, so it might be inconvenient.”
Dale spoke with a genuinely apologetic expression.
“Huh?”
“I’ll find another house as soon as possible,” he added.
“No… that’s not it… I was about to say the house is wonderful.”
Finally, Dale’s face brightened up.
He smiled with relief.
“I’m glad you like it.”
“It’s really amazing! It’s hard to believe you lived here alone.”
“I used it occasionally when I had business in the capital.”
“I’m perfectly satisfied with this house, Dale.”
I spoke sincerely, and truly loved everything about it.
“Dale, are you secretly a wealthy man? You talk about finding another house so easily.”
“….”
“You look like you could grab a real estate catalog any minute.”
At that moment, Dale tore something he was holding into shreds.
“What’s wrong? What was that paper?”
“There… was a bug,” he replied.
“Yikes! Did you catch it?”
Dale stood still for a moment before speaking.
“It was between the pages of a book, so I tore it.”
“Good job. But why are you sweating so much?”
Dale looked at me with a tense expression, seemingly flustered.
“I dislike having bugs in my books,” he explained as he quickly threw the paper with the bug into the fireplace and burned it.
‘Does he dislike them that much?’
Despite his strong physique, it seemed he was scared of small insects.
However, since I’m good at catching bugs, we made the perfect housemates.
“Hmm…!”
I leaned out of the window.
Seeing the view after such a long time made me feel good.
“It’s been a while since I smelled the capital.”
The fresh winter breeze began to fill my nose.
“I love it.”
So much had changed during the three years I’d been away. The streets had been newly paved, and more buildings had sprung up. Even the royal castle had undergone renovations, looking larger and almost new.
“That must be the new building for the knight order, right?”
“That’s correct.”
Dale replied to even my passing comments with utmost attention.
“But Dale, this is a three-story house. So, did you use all three floors by yourself?”
“I usually only use the second floor.”
The first floor of this house was a reception area, the second was Dale’s space, and the third was unknown—maybe a storage area?
Yet, even well-off single noblemen rarely owned such a house in this city.
How did Dale come by this kind of money?
‘Come to think of it, Dale might not have taken on many jobs, but he was an A-rank mercenary with a high success rate.’
I did some digging and found out why Dale had such an extraordinary 100% success rate.
He wasn’t a mercenary who took on many jobs.
Instead, he specialized in dangerous, high-paying tasks.
‘He also seems like a fallen noble.’
I used to think he just had sophisticated tastes, but now I understood after seeing the furniture in this house.
All the pieces were expensive, handcrafted items popular among the nouveau riche.
Not only did he have an eye for quality, but such workshops were hard to access.
The difficulty in purchasing such items in the first place confirmed that Dale’s background was anything but ordinary.
‘A fallen noble with a troubled past…’
I looked at Dale quietly. With that face and that backstory.
‘He looks like he could be the male lead of any novel.’
Of course, not the male lead of this original work.
