My Contract Husband Resembles the Male Protagonist - Chapter 64
“How did you know she had a disguise potion?”
I asked as I stuffed the magic potion into my bag, grateful for Dale’s help. Potions were hard to come by, but they were worth the money.
Dale took my bag for me and answered nonchalantly.
“I saw her real face for a moment when the potion’s effect was wearing off.”
“Oh, I see… You’re very observant, Dale.”
I was amazed by his keen eye for detail.
“But why did you ask for the disguise potion? You don’t need it.”
“It’s a potion you might need, Enya.”
“Was it for me?”
“I thought you might want it.”
He nodded, not denying that he got it for me.
Dale was really kind and sweet.
Oh, right, I had something for Dale too!
“Wait a moment, Dale. Can I have the bag for a second?”
I pulled out a long, hard box that I had been carrying around.
“This is a gift for you, Dale.”
“For me?”
Dale looked at me with a dazed expression, surprised by the unexpected gift.
Even when he looked dazed, Dale didn’t seem silly; he was cute.
“Why… It’s not even a special day, can I accept this?”
Dale seemed a bit flustered.
“You can just accept it. It’s a gift I prepared for you.”
Dale’s eyes widened as he slowly opened the box lid.
The item dangling from his hand was a silver necklace.
“….. Is it mine?”
I couldn’t help but laugh at his pure question.
“Yes, it’s for you, Dale. I bought it because I wanted to give you something.”
“…..”
Dale, with a flushed face, put on the necklace. He looked at me, obviously pleased.
“It looks great on you!”
When I gave him a thumbs up, Dale smiled bashfully.
“But I don’t have anything to give you in return, Miss Enya…”
Dale looked around and pointed to a jewelry store.
“How about we go there now?”
“Gifts aren’t meant for equal exchange. If they were, they wouldn’t be gifts.”
“But…”
“If you like it, that’s enough for me. Do you like it?”
“I feel…”
Dale finally smiled deeply as he spoke in a low voice.
“Very happy.”
He touched his neck and fiddled with the necklace.
“If possible, I’d like to have it embedded in my skin.”
“Haha, Dale, you’re joking.”
“I’m serious.”
“When you talk so seriously, it sounds real~”
Sometimes Dale made chilling jokes. Still, seeing how much he liked the gift made me happy too.
“I asked an alchemist to make it. I told him to create a necklace with a lucky gemstone.”
There was a time when Dale once said, “I thought it was a gift.”
It was probably just a casual remark, but it bothered me.
For some reason, Dale had seemed particularly downcast at the time.
I naturally linked arms with Dale. The weather was cold, but Dale’s body heat made it perfect.
“Achoo!”
The cold weather made my nose tickle.
“Are you alright?”
Dale’s face darkened at my single sneeze.
“We should head back.”
“Shall we?”
I smiled brightly while accepting his protection.
Everyone passing by kept glancing at Dale’s face.
‘So that’s why he wore the robe.’
He drew so much attention because he was so handsome.
I thought it was a look not often seen even in the capital, but it wasn’t just my opinion.
Dale’s appearance surpassed my imagination.
There probably wasn’t anyone in this empire who could match his beauty.
‘Ah. There is.’
Just one person, possibly.
I hadn’t seen him in person, but I’d heard a lot of rumors, and he appeared in the original story as well.
‘Marquis Schultz.’
