My Contract Husband Resembles the Male Protagonist - Chapter 66
A family crest with a two-headed eagle looking in opposite directions, a shield with flames in the center. It was familiar.
The carriage door opened, and a man stepped out.
A strikingly handsome man dressed in a snow-white suit.
It hit me then.
Whose family crest it was.
Marquis Schultz.
“I see you from here.”
A man stepped out of the carriage and approached us.
Me?
No, his gaze was a bit to the side.
‘Dale?’
I turned my head and saw Dale’s expression, cold as ice.
“I heard you were living like this…”
He greeted Dale.
Was that a greeting?
“So, it’s true.”
It sounded sarcastic, almost like a mocking greeting between old acquaintances.
Either way, he seemed pleased to see Dale.
He approached with a bright expression.
‘Is this Marquis Cassion Schultz?’
Not everything is judged by appearances, but Marquis Schultz was described as a remarkably handsome man.
And the only man fitting that description was this one.
But he was much more than I expected…
How should I put it…
‘He looks like a scoundrel?’
“And who is this lady?”
I was startled. It was like he could read my mind.
I looked at Dale, who remained silent.
Dale, with his black hair and golden eyes, exuded a cold demeanor, while the flamboyant Marquis Schultz, with his blond hair and red eyes, was completely different.
It was like comparing two people from opposite extremes.
“Dale.”
“Her voice is lovely too.”
The man smiled at me.
“I am Cassion Schultz.”
“What brings you to the capital?”
Dale subtly shielded me with his body.
“Oh, I’m here to meet someone important. There’s a meeting.”
Cassion’s voice carried a hint of amusement. He spoke in a smooth tone.
“But the important person dislikes me. I was thinking about what to do… what do you think?”
He leaned slightly, trying to get a better look at me past Dale.
“They won’t even let me join. What do you think? Should I stay here and enjoy the capital, or should I head to the palace?”
The palace?
I hiccuped involuntarily.
Dale turned to shield me further and glared at Cassion.
“Go to the palace.”
“Really? Do you think I can get in? The guards will need to open the gate for me.”
“They will open it.”
There was a brief silence.
“Good. I’ll trust you on that. But the one behind you…”
“Go.”
“You’re not even going to let me say hello.”
The Marquis chuckled smoothly. He raised his hands in mock surrender while looking at Dale.
“Alright, alright. I’m leaving.”
At that moment, the marquis craned his neck and looked at me.
“We’ll see each other again, I suppose?”
“You should hurry. The Emperor won’t allow the palace gates to stay open for long.”
The marquis’s curiosity was thoroughly blocked by Dale’s unyielding defense.
“Alright. We can meet again later.”
The marquis stepped back and got into the carriage.
“See you, then.”
His final words felt like they were directed at me.
The carriage gradually moved away.
‘Who is he? And how does he know Dale?’
I glanced at Dale. His expression was very dark as he watched the carriage disappear.
* * *
As soon as we got home, my eye color and hair color returned to normal.
I must have only drunk a small amount of the disguise potion, so its effect was short-lived.
“Now I have enough to drink as much as I want.”
Thanks to Dale, I felt reassured.
‘But who was that man earlier?’
Did Marquis Schultz and Dale know each other?
If I recall their conversation – though it was mostly one-sided – they seemed familiar with each other.
What stood out the most was Marquis Schultz’s friendliness toward Dale.
That was unusual.
‘Marquis Schultz is well-connected, but he’s not the type to socialize freely.’
He was the type of person who would stand still and people would flock to him.
It was due to the influence of the prestigious Schultz family and his exceptional personal abilities.
Like our family, the Schultz family was a leading supporter of the Emperor.
“Dale, are you done washing up?”
Dale, looking slightly flushed as if he had just come out of the shower, was drying himself with a towel.
Droplets of water fell from his wet hair, emitting a pleasant scent.
Dale looked at me with somewhat tired eyes.
“I see you haven’t slept yet.”
