My Contract Husband Resembles the Male Protagonist - Chapter 83
“……”
“……”
“……?”
Dale, upon returning home, stood still when he noticed Cassion. He looked at Cassion’s smiling face for a moment, then walked past him, ignoring him completely.
“Ms. Enya, please stop picking up trash like this.”
“Oh, sorry.”
“The alchemist last time was useful to you, but this man is worthless. A nobleman will be of no help to you.”
“Useless? We’re friends.”
Leaning one arm on the table, Cassion smiled brightly and said,
“You should make an effort to find some use. After all, we’re friends.”
“What would you like for dinner?”
Dale asked as he headed to the kitchen to wash his hands.
At that, Cassion’s eyes sparkled, and he chimed in,
“Your friend likes meat. Leave out the mashed potatoes or grains. I don’t like things that make me gain weight. Keep that in mind.”
“What would you like for dinner, Miss Enya?”
“Miss Enya says your steak is perfect for her.”
“……”
Finally, Dale’s gaze shifted to Cassion.
He was glaring at him as if seeing him for the first time, as though he had been invisible until now.
“Hahaha. Scary.”
Cassion waved his hand with a laugh.
“My servants will be here in three hours. Since your wife invited me, don’t hate me too much.”
“Dale, actually, that’s…”
“I know that Enya wouldn’t have done that.”
Unlike with Cassion, Dale’s eyes were warm and kind as he looked at me.
Then, as he observed me, he narrowed his eyes, as if noticing something. Dale approached me and hesitated before reaching out his hand.
“May I touch it?”
“Huh? Yes.”
I took his hand and placed it on my cheek.
Dale gently lifted my face and looked at my neck.
“You have a wound. This is serious.”
His eyebrows furrowed as he looked like he was about to break from worry.
His expression was so pained that anyone would have thought Dale had been the one injured.
“I’ll get the medicine.”
Dale went to retrieve the first-aid kit and then suddenly glared at Cassion.
“Did you do this?”
“To think I’d be accused of being the kind of scum who’d lay hands on a woman… what a dreadful assumption.”
“……”
But Dale’s suspicious look didn’t fade.
“Really, I just fell.”
“Miss Enya.”
As Dale came closer and gently treated the wound, he let out a sigh.
I couldn’t help but follow the movement of his handsome face, and I found myself staring at his lips.
His touch on my neck was warm.
It was as if he was checking to see if I had been hurt anywhere else, and he carefully tilted my head.
With the faintest pressure, I obediently turned my head. His warm breath brushed against my ear.
I looked into Dale’s clear eyes.
He still had a worried expression.
“There’s another wound here.”
Dale frowned as he looked at my collarbone.
“I-I told you, I just fell.”
“Miss Enya, do you know what happens when you fall and land on your neck or collarbone?”
“……”
“Your neck would snap, resulting in instant death. Your collarbone would shatter, and you could die.”
At Dale’s grim words, I shut my mouth.
His low voice sounded like he was interrogating me.
“Does it still seem like just a fall?”
“Hey, you two. I get that the atmosphere is nice, but have you forgotten I’m here?”
Cassion clicked his tongue from where he leaned against the wall.
He shook his head as if wondering what exactly was going on in front of him.
“Being unmarried is just tragic. Aren’t you going to cook? Dale, are you going to let your wife go hungry?”
“……”
Growl.
At that moment, my stomach made a loud noise.
“Haha, what’s this? It seems someone’s digestion is working well.”
“I apologize. I’ll prepare something right away.”
Dale lightly stroked my cheek before standing up. His back seemed especially broad today, making me want to hug him… No, I meant it looked lonely. That’s what I meant.
