Evelyn called out to Adrian through clenched teeth.

“Adrian, you son of a bxtch!”

“Pfft!”

The moment the crude curse was thrown out, Calix burst into laughter. Prince Adrian, whose name had been called, casually looked at Evelyn.

“Damn it! Why the hell didn’t you just leave me in that fxcking Zelakent? Why drag me out to this hellhole… Damn it, this fxcked-up thing… Why me?!”

As Evelyn vented her pent-up frustration, her lips trembled uncontrollably.

“Ah, aah…”

She should have stayed in the hellish Zelekent. If she had, she wouldn’t be so confused right now. She wouldn’t have had to live with this endless, maddening fog that had no answer. She could have lived her life without catching the attention of a monster…

“Hey, you son of a bxtch! Get a grip! Snap out of it! You fxcking bastard!”

Despite the harsh words pouring out, neither Adrian nor any member of the royal family showed surprise or displeasure. With casual expressions, they tasted their food, inhaled the scent of the wine, and added light interjections.

“Well, Evelyn. You’re happy, aren’t you?”

The way they listened so seriously to Evelyn’s words was not just absurd, it was chilling.

How could she make them hear her words? Or would they even reach them? Or perhaps, just like her mouth moved on its own earlier, is it the Duke who’s controlling her now?

The thoughts kept spiraling, growing bigger and bigger, until they filled her mind. The unanswered questions gave her a throbbing headache.

“…Must be nice to feel so comfortable, you fxcking bastards.”

She muttered weakly to herself. There was no point in glaring at the prince for forgetting the contract, so she stopped.

Evelyn turned toward Calix who was smiling so casually. His sky-blue eyes seemed to reach her with a tenderness that unnerved her.

“If the royal family can be manipulated so easily, then you should just rule as king already.”

With her treasonous words, Evelyn shifted her gaze to the king.

“Don’t you agree, Your Majesty? After all, you’re acting according to this man’s wishes. Might as well just pass the crown on to him.”

Evelyn asked, in a state of resignation, but the king only smiled kindly. That made her feel like she might lose it. It would be better if they just arrested her for her treason and locked her away in the dungeon.

“Hmm.”

At that moment, Calix’s curious voice echoed from beside her.

“Eve, do you want to be queen?”

Ah.

Evelyn stared at the Duke with a vacant expression. For a moment, the words of the man who had once told her that he could become anything flashed in her mind, and her heart sank.

“If you want to be queen…”

The Duke paused, turning his body toward Evelyn, resting one elbow on the banquet table, and propping his chin on his hand.

“Should I make it happen?”

“You’re insane…”

Evelyn’s lips trembled as she couldn’t even finish her curse, unable to comprehend his response with her rational mind. The Duke squinted and smiled.

“You told me to become king. Since you’re my wife, you should naturally become queen. If you want, I’ll grant it to you.”

A chill ran down Evelyn’s spine. An instinctive warning echoed in her head. If she gave even the slightest sign of approval, this man would undoubtedly carry it out.

“Is that what you wanted?”

“You… Don’t talk nonsense.”

“Nonsense, you say.”

The man straightened his leaning posture and gently cupped her cheek with the hand that had been supporting his chin. The heat of his palm on her skin made Evelyn instinctively hold her breath.

“I can become anything, as long as it’s what you want.”

A hazy fog began to rise from beneath her feet. The surreal sight of mist seeping into an indoor ballroom struck her with dread.

The fog crept slowly upward from the floor, curling past her legs, rising to her waist, and soon spreading across the banquet table. Shrouded in the thick mist, the other guests were hidden from view — giving the chilling illusion that only she and the Duke remained in the hall.

“I can give you anything you want.”

“…What I want?”

Evelyn, paralyzed by fear, repeated his words as if entranced. The man twisted his lips into a smile so dazzling it was almost blinding.

And then—

Thwuck!

A knife, once lying idly on the table, plunged cleanly into the man’s neck. It struck a vital point, enough to kill an ordinary person instantly. Though duller than a proper dagger, the banquet knife had been driven with such precision that it buried deep into the Duke’s throat.

But the Duke merely raised and lowered his eyebrows. No expression of pain, no sign of suffering appeared on his face.

It was Evelyn who groaned.

“Ugh…”

Please, please — just die!

Evelyn yanked the knife outward with all the strength she could muster. She felt the resistance of stacked bones, muscle, and skin — but her will was stronger.

Shhrrk!

A sickening sound marked the moment the outermost layer of flesh finally tore, and crimson blood sprayed into the air. The carotid artery had been severed, and the blood that gushed forth in pulsing waves brought her a fleeting and savage relief.

Staring at the half-severed, drooping head, Evelyn spoke through clenched teeth, her voice raw and trembling with truth.

“What I want… is for you to die!”
