My Perfect Omega - Chapter 100
Leila grabbed the handle tightly and expressed her gratitude.
“Thank you again. Can you tell me your name? In case we meet again, I’d like to repay you properly.”
“No need! You’ve given me plenty. Besides, I really shouldn’t be away for too long. I’ll head back now.”
“Oh… okay, understood.”
“Good luck, my lady.”
Leila heard the maid’s footsteps descending the stairs, then fading away among other noises. She then knocked on the door.
“Anna?”
At her call, someone approached from inside. As she waited anxiously to see if she had come to the right place, the door suddenly opened, causing her to lose her balance and fall back onto the floor.
“Ugh.”
Just as she swallowed her pain with a groan, she was lifted and then thrown to the floor inside. Before she could grasp the situation, mocking laughter echoed around her.
“You’re still so naïve. You really can’t do anything without your mother, can you?”
Leila’s face went pale upon hearing Sarah’s voice, a voice she didn’t expect to hear here. She scanned the area, noticing several figures in the form of light clusters. She shouted fiercely.
“Where’s Anna?!”
“Ha, do you think a blind fool like you can see Anna just by looking around?”
Ignoring Sarah’s taunts, Leila was too worried about Anna to respond. She was convinced it was Anna because of the signature on the letter. Thus, Anna must have been forced to write it under Sarah’s captivity.
While she was still trying to comprehend the situation, she heard another voice, not Sarah’s.
“See, ma’am? They’re really dumb, aren’t they?”
Hearing the unforgettable voice of Lily, the head maid of the Este household, Leila’s body stiffened. If Sarah had indirectly killed her hope, Lily had directly harmed her.
Lily had tormented her in unimaginable ways, from putting stones in her food, giving her spoiled food, to mixing strange herbs in her wash water that caused skin rashes.
Hearing Lily’s voice again made Leila’s vision go black. As the darkness overwhelmed her, she felt a suffocating fear. Sarah and Lily continued to laugh at her.
Especially Sarah, whose grudge from past grievances made her feel twisted inside. With a long sneer, she addressed Leila.
“Because of you, our household has become a laughing stock. How dare you repay our kindness with such ingratitude? How could you commit such disrespect to the count and me?”
“Madam, the eldest miss might lack proper education. Maybe she’ll follow better if taught properly.”
“Indeed, that’s why I came here myself. To give her some lessons.”
Their voices dripped with malice. The fact that her life had been ruined by these two, and that she still trembled at their voices, filled her with self-loathing.
She realized now that her anger had been misdirected. Instead of confronting the rightful sources of her misery, she had taken it out on others. Though she couldn’t fully understand Lucas, her dark side should have been directed at these two, and even her father, Amelie, and Timo.
“…And what did you two learn so well to have stolen from others?”
Her quiet but firm statement caused Sarah and Lily, who had been talking among themselves, to scowl fiercely.
“You still don’t understand the situation, do you?”
In response to Sarah’s question, Leila let out a cynical laugh.
“And you still don’t understand your place, do you?”
“…What?”
“After driving my mother away and becoming the countess, you should be content. That goes for you too, head maid! After falsely accusing and driving people away, shouldn’t you feel more secure? Why, are you afraid they’ll come back and do something to you?”
Though taken aback by this side of Leila they weren’t familiar with, Sarah and Lily soon glared at her with venomous eyes.
“Fine, Leila. I’ll figure out my place, but you should understand your own situation, yes? Lily, bring it over.”
