My Perfect Omega - Chapter 137
After returning from the imperial palace, Lucas sent gifts of apology along with the news of the wedding postponement to those who had already received invitations. He managed everything alone to ensure Leila didn’t have to worry about a thing.
Time flew by, and soon the midwife and her assistant arrived at the Duke’s mansion to assist with the birth.
Leila was reclining on the couch, gently stroking her swollen belly. Lucas sat at her feet, busy massaging her swollen feet and calves.
“Your feet are so swollen.”
“Emma told me it’s unavoidable.”
“Still, isn’t it too severe?”
She hadn’t changed much from the day before, but Lucas’s fussing made her smile. It was natural for her belly to protrude as the baby grew, yet he worried every day.
“Maybe we should call the doctor for an examination.”
When he finally mentioned the doctor, Leila couldn’t stay silent.
“Here, put your hand here.”
She took his hand from her leg and placed it on her belly, smiling brightly.
“The baby is moving so energetically. If we call the doctor, Melody might get startled and hide.”
Under his palm, Lucas felt a small, rhythmic movement. Even though it wasn’t the first time he felt the baby move, it always felt magical to him. He placed both hands on her belly, mesmerized.
“She must feel happy sensing her dad’s touch and pheromones.”
Lucas smiled quietly at Leila’s words, and she stifled a laugh at his satisfied expression.
A man who was unknown when they first met but was kind. A man who seemed self-centered but cared for her deeply the more they met. A man she once thought was strange when they were estranged, but now she knew he loved her more than anyone in the world.
Meeting him was likely God’s gift to compensate for her previously dark life.
“Anna, could you bring my violin?”
Remembering the first time she met him, Leila suddenly wanted to play music and immediately asked Anna.
“You want to play?”
“Yes, I suddenly felt like it.”
Lucas was unsure whether he should stop her. He wanted her to rest since her delivery was near, but he also longed to hear her play. When Anna returned with the violin case, he hesitantly spoke.
“…Are you sure you can manage?”
“Playing isn’t strenuous, and our Melody loves it.”
As if to prove the baby’s nickname was fitting, the baby would always move energetically when Leila played the violin. Each time the baby kicked in rhythm, Leila felt overwhelming joy.
“Well then…”
Seeing it would be hard to dissuade her, Lucas prepared himself to enjoy her performance. As he shifted to a more comfortable position, Leila laughed softly, adjusted her posture, and began to play.
Starting with the piece she played the first time they met, Lucas immediately recognized it and sighed in admiration. As she continued with the gentle music, Leila became absorbed, losing herself in the crescendo.
At the climax, when she was playing vigorously, an unprecedented pain engulfed her like a tidal wave.
“Ah—!”
She had been hit by Sarah before, but this pain was incomparable, spreading from inside her belly.
“Leila!”
Lucas, sensing something wrong, quickly took the violin from her hands and gently lifted her. Anna, who had been watching nearby, immediately spoke up.
“I’ll fetch the doctor!”
“Please do.”
Having recently experienced similar pains, their actions were swift. Laying Leila on the bed, Lucas asked with a worried expression.
“Does it hurt a lot?”
“…Ugh.”
Leila wanted to answer but couldn’t find her voice due to the unfamiliar sensation different from any pain she had felt before. She recalled a conversation with the midwife a few days ago.
When Leila asked how to distinguish between false labor and real labor, the midwife had said,
[You won’t need to ask. You’ll know naturally when the time comes.]
As soon as she realized this might be the real thing, the pain intensified.
“Aaah!”
Leila’s scream left Lucas frozen like a statue. Seeing his omega in pain and feeling helpless was a blow to him.
